Re: Removing deacal?

Try using "goof off" I have had success with that in the past. It helps if you let it saturate first and then scrape off with your nail or something similar.

3M makes round 'eraser' that you chuck up in a drill and it rubs the adhesive off. I used it on my truck and tahoe to remove the residue after I took all the badges off of them and it worked great. I wouldn't focus on one area too much in order to keep the heat down, but I didn't have any issues, and it works fast.

goo gone. The 3M eraser will work, too, but... you can burn through the paint (especially if you catch a corner).

3M general purpose adhesive remover. Comes in a pint or quart can, and you should be able to find it at most auto parts stores. Works great and doesn't harm the paint finish. It's good to have around for removing tar, sap or other sticky stuff from your car.

Good old naptha/lighter fluid. Goof Off may eat into the paint. I won't ever use that s**t again...

When I worked at a dealership when I was 16, I always had a fun job to removing other dealers stickers on the trade ins before they hit the lot.

I always used a heat gun/hair dryer to heat the sticker up, then I would peel it of by hand & use rubbing alcohol to remove the residue. It never hurt the clearcoat once.

BE CAREFUL using the heat though! If you hold it on one spot, you can bubble the paint.

If you are planning to paint the tailgate, DO NOT use WD-40 or any other lubricant. The correct fluid to use is precleaner solvent (one brand name is PreSol, but there are others). GooGone is essentially the same product in a consumer-sized package (at a higher cost per ounce). I buy gallon cans at my local auto paint supply store, as I use it a lot for this sort of purpose. The precleaner will not harm automotive paint or plastic, but will remove tar, adhesives, etc.

a trick ive used is buy the bottle of goo gone. then saturate an old sock with it. then lay the sock on the residue (since the tailgate can be easily removed from the truck and placed on the ground) and let sit for a few hours or whatever and the residue will come right off.

this has never damaged paint and ive used goo gone several times for this.

I just did this on our SUV. I took it in for service and a couple days after I got it back I realized that they had slapped a dealership sticker on the back.

Scraped it off with my fingernail and wiped the residue away with Goo Gone.

I'll agree with that also, good stuff, no awesome stuff.

Eraser Wheel for the big stuff and clean up the residual with 3M adhesive remover. Done in 5 minutes.

Eraser wheel for sure, removed pinstripe decal on inside of my truck with it. Just don't hold it in place too long, keep it moving. Will work quick and easy, well worth $30 bucks. Sold at O'Reailly's.

I use LPS Presolve orange degreaser. No damage on paint and it doesn't melt plastics either. Also, to remove stubborn paper labels use a thin coat of peanut butter overnight and they'll lift right off.

Any light solvent, oil will work, I use paint thinner. I wouldnt use any 'hot' solvents like acetone, brake clean on clear coat or paint that I want to keep, can soften and smudge, Enough you can actually remove paint.

Goo off/lighter fluid/similar stuff is mostly xylol/xylene.

Save yourself some $ and buy a quart can of xylene at the hardware store for half the price.

If that were me, I would have drove right back to the dealer and had them remove it. We were at a Caverns one time and a guy was going around slapping bumper stickers onto cars. I pointed out my car and said that if I find a sticker on it I was coming after him. No sticker

You've been lucky. Also, you might not be using the "good" stuff. The low VOC & non-chlorinated brake cleaners are much weaker. Most of the time auto paint will be OK if you work quickly, don't rub too much & don't use an excessive amount. Avoid getting it on anything made out of plastic...

I used GooGone on some remanents of stickers on our new enclosed trailer. Took the paint right off the damn thing. I switched to denatured alcohol. I have the same stcker issue on my Falcon, times 20. I have about 1/2 off. Some pulled the paint even with heat. And all leave goo. GooGone won't cut it, ChemTool might but also damages the paint. Might have to get a sticker off buffing wheel.

Ok don't get on me with this, but to get decal glue off my race cars I use Avon skin-so-soft. I know my hands smell like girly hands. But no chemicals and that's a good thing for your skin... Just don't let your wife know you stole I mean borrowed it..

Try this product-Bestine is the manufacture and the product is "solvent and thinner" product # 202. This can be bought at most art supple stores. It will not hurt the paint and will remove all traces of glue. The product evaporates very fast. Great for sniffing also.
