... Actually I deployed the tremors inspired trap today. I use a big coffee can that I just finished drinking all the coffee out of...

You must have been REALLY thirsty.:scared: That would make a LOT of coffee.

I've got two dogs that take care of my mole problems (at least in the back yard). Now if I could JUST get them to fill the holes in...

Some mornings are tougher than others :lol_hitti

And my trap didn't work. I'm not certain how the mole got around it. I went out of town for a week and it ended up raining so I had no tracks or tunnels to investigate. The mole is still here though. Saw his tunnel run by just like normal

I swear I'm gonna just sit out there and watch the dirt. This thing is driving me that mad.

Well I finally received the new brushes I ordered to repair my recip saw. I replaced the worn out brush with a new one and she's up and running again. Now I can cut stuff with great fury :D

Also an update on the drawer liners - I don't like them because they move. They do a good job sticking to the tools. But when I close the drawer the tools slide back and take the liner with it. I want to find something better.

If you use a spray adhesive on the drawer bottom it will hold the liners in place.

Did it in my box because it was driving me crazy the way they slid around. The havent moved since.

The concern with that is that if you damage one it could be very hard to replace cleanly.

Cut thin cardboard to fit the drawer, glue the liners to the cardboard.

I wonder if hairspray would work? Just enough 'tacky' without being permanent. White Rain could hold a palm tree still in a hurricane.

Just put a glue trap in the can. Cut out both ends of the can, run a couple of self-tappers through the trap/can, put it in a tunnel, and leave it.

98TJ is that to catch moles or hold drawer liners? :lol_hitti

Girl, we took my 88 YO aunt to dinner last night. As we were walking into the garage on the way to the car she said, "Hold on a minute, I need to spray my hair." Grabbed a can of hair spray off the shelf and laquered her doo. I thought she was the only woman who kept her hair spray in the garage until now . . .

How about a couple dabs of "hot glue"? One on each corner should work just fine.

You toolbox drawers must be larger than mine:dunno:. I cut mine edge to edge and haven't ever noticed this problem.

That's not a bad idea. We use hairspray to hold on the grips for motorcycles. It is slick at first, but dries quickly and is tackey. It cleans up with water too.

Jim

PS I am going to use this idea in my kitchen drawers where the paper is sliding around.

:lol_hitti 98TJ, I didn't understand your post until onething here mentioned the moles. Now that makes sense. I couldn't figure out how to make the glue trap work on my drawer liners without being too messy

The hot glue will work on the corners. I am concerned though since the material isn't heavy that it will still wrinkle and roll on the rest. The drawers are (2) 20x20 and (8) 26x19.

Just an idea. ...and a couple other ideas.... Place the mat on a table and get it warm (heat gun???) prior to putting it in the drawer. Once you put the glue down put a brick (or something heavy) on it to help spread the glue. Then you should be able to stretch it a little bit when you you put the rest of it down.

Of course... I've never ACTUALLY done those. I usually cut mine about the right size and put them in. I'm not too worried if my tools slide a little bit.

I'm going to give the hairspray a shot. My liners are cut to fit the drawer and they still move around.

It's worth a try, but my guess would be that hair spray will lose it's tack over time as the alcohol/whatever evaporates out of it. 3M makes a few spray adhesives (like for interior panels) that I think would work better. As a bonus, you could use the 3M spray for the vinyl or leather cover you put on your upcoming center console project.

The spray adhesive works great and stays tacky (but not sticky). I would think it will work better than hairspray. You can get it at any craft store (Michael's, Hobby Lobby) about $5 a can. The other advantage is that when you stick stuff with the adhesive you can remove and remount pretty easily. I always have a can in my shop.

I have 3M spray adhesive on the shelf. I have worked with it before on motorcycle seat recovers and a few other leather and cloth material projects.

The insides of my drawers aren't painted like the sides are. They are fully primered w/self etching primer with a real light Hammered over spray from the sides. The insides of the drawers are not smooth.

Still haven't worked on this. The weather has been terrible and I can't work with the garage door open like I want too. The green dust and heavy wind is not fun.

You seem to be the leather person around here, so Ive got a question. I picked up a Santis AOLLL double magazine carrier at a gun show. Its new and was priced right but its natural tan and the rig I bought it for is black. So whats the best way to make it black? I want an open top carrier with a friction plate so it is great except the color.

I'm sure you have shared this somewhere before, but could you please give me details on the 'self-etching primer' you use? I am fabricating a spreader bar out of mild steel tubing for the end of my engine hoist and I want to go ahead and paint it. It sounds like the self-etching stuff is the way to go. Thanks!

If the mag pouch does not have a top coat you can dye it. If it is topcoated, give it a wipe down(not a saturation) with denatured alcohol to remove the clear. Use Angelus leather dye. It is a spirit based dye (alcohol) and works very well. You can find Angelus at a shoe repair place, a 4oz bottle ought to be enough). Use a dauber and get dye on both the inside and outside. Do the inside first. You keep putting dye to the leather as it will drink it up. When you see the dye color come through on the grain side (front or outside) then you have put enough dye into the leather. Now you may dye the outside. Let the mag pouch air dry. Do not put a hair dryer to it (heated air is not needed in this application, plus the dye has time to work into the leather to continue saturating). But you're fine putting it in a comfy room with a ceiling fan to keep air circulating. Let it sit overnight. Once dry you need to buff the dye residue from the pouch. You can use a clean soft cotton towel. I prefer horse hair shoe shine brushes. If you have a CLEAN UNUSED brush use it. Makes quick work. From there you can topcoat to seal the dye. Use an acrylic topcoat. Should be able to purchase a small aerosol can instead of the liquid bottles. Give an even light coat inside and out. You can do this several times as it dries fast. Let the mag pouch sit and cure for 48hrs. It's ready to go. Give it another buff with the brush.

MP, I use the Rustoleum brand self etching primer. Should be able to find it at HD and Lowes. You can apply it over steel, aluminum and fiberglass. Makes a real nice matte/etched base for the paint to stick. And resist the temptation to handle and put into use whatever you just painted. Let it cure for the full 48hrs :lol_hitti

Girl has enough drawers that she can try one method in each drawer. Maybe try it out and report back to us...

Rivets would work, but M_P would probably make a frame out of angles to stretch the liner to hold it in place.

HA HA! I assumed by now that you guys already know that rivets are the new duct tape--and you wouldn't need me to tell you to rivet your drawer liners in place ;-) . I do plan to build my tool drawers with aluminum and rivets. (By then, I'll be able to come back here to GiaG's page to see how she managed to get the drawer liners to stay in place.) I'm voting for a dab of hot glue in each corner. Nice, easy, semi-permanent solution, which would easily be reversed.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend...we are in Miami, getting ready to take the boys on a cruise to the Bahamas for their spring break. It's weird, seeing the ocean and realizing it is the Atlantic, not the Pacific.

Rivets are the new duct tape...bwahahahaa! I'm gonna remember that every time I see rivets or the gun.

So are you guys all cruised out yet or what? DH and I have our island resort vacation coming up and we cannot wait. We did a cruise last vacation so we're excited to try this all inclusive. Anyway, have a strawberry daiquiri for me! Ohh at reminds me, I need to go swimsuit shopping so I have something to wear while I'm drinking beverages on the beach :pimpflash

Oh, I totally haven't messed with the drawers yet. Haven't been in the garage much except to mow the yard on the weekends and that is a miserable task with all the pollens out with a vengeance.

I did want to share something DH suggested this weekend. He said "Sweetie, what do you think if we pour a drive to the side of the house and we can build a tall carport so your truck will fit. Also we can do a built in shed on the backside of that and add a man door to the side of the house like you wanted."

Me: Uhm......:wtf: <thinking this has to be a trick and answering with a timid and calm voice> Yeah, something like that would be good.

Anyway, there are no real plans to go forward any time soon as we've got a few other financial commitments to get off the table first. I was just floored that he brought it up. I remember asking to do that long time ago. There is hope :D

Ooh, it's gorgeous out there. I bet you guys are all tanned and relaxed. May I ask what resort you guys went with? Cozumel was on our list when we were initially choosing locations. It was a port call on the cruise and we didn't get a chance to do all we wanted in such an abbreviated day. After a handful of ideas we decided on Isla Mujeres Palace off the coast of Cancun just to try a new location.

This will be our first all inclusive. Any tips for us rookies?

Girl, It may look funny, but get some cheap dusts masks, and take a shower immediately following the mowing, it makes a huge difference for allergies...

Sorry, no advice on cruses, I've never been on anything bigger than a medium sized fishing boat in the delta...

So the all inclusive cruise is the way to go? Traveled a lot but have never been on a cruise... We have been thinking about it and looking into some deals. I have heard great things about Cozumel from other friends too, may have to check it out! Any suggestions?

I think you're right about wearing a mask and I know you're right about showering immediately. We had a yard field day a couple weekends ago. It was just after lunch when we finished up so we just hopped in the car to get some Sonic real quick. While waiting on our food I about died of an allergy attack. Got home, stripped and got in the shower to get all that stuff off. Also did a saline rinse to get it out of my airways.

We did a cruise and found out while it was relaxing, we didn't like being with all the other people. Also the shore excursions were too fast to relax and enjoy being out there. This time we are trying the all inclusive resort and figure it will be like a cruise without the ship and all other people  Our resort only has 62 rooms and is adults only. Hopefully a chilled crowd.

We wouldn't do a cruise again unless it is an Alaskan (for the location). We tried one and it was fun but like I said, too many other people to be with and not enough time on shore. There wasn't enough to do on the ship and we weren't interested in being hungover or gluttons so the activities geared towards us was limited.

I would love to have a group get together and rent a house for the week in Cozumel.

Great area! Yeah, we were all tanned. I'll link you to our photos tonight, but it was a lot of fun. We stayed in the Alegro Occidental.

A few tips for all inclusives at a resort:

*Take a bundle of $1's, I took 100, and that was about right for us.
*Tip the cleaning lady daily, we left $2. It makes a big difference on the little stuff.
*Tip the bar tenders at least every other drink. They will serve you first, and better drinks.
*Tip the waiters in the restaurants, much better service the next time ($1-$2).
*Bring an insulated mug for each person for your drinks. They will not get warm that way.
*Bring plenty of sunscreen, include one like SkinSoSoft that has bug repellent, especially needed at night.
*Bring a bit of money in small bills for trinkets, it makes negotiation easier if you are not using big bills.
*Don't forget the simple stuff like sun glasses, bathing suits, shorts and shirts appropriate for 80° days, and a sweater for 65° nights.
*Make reservations for the various restaurants the first full day you are there (they are free, but by reservation). They sometimes fill up fast. Do the same for excursions you might want to do, and negotiate. Usually they will give you a discount.
*Bring books or magazines for reading on the beach, I used a Kindle and it was great.
Bring a beach bag to keep your cameras and other items clean and out of sight when swimming. It is pretty safe to leave them by your chairs.
*Put out your towels early to get the best loungers on the beach or at the pool.

Mostly, just try to relax. The first day is usually a little harder as you get used to the services and what is where, but they do this all the time, so just ask. The servers are all friendly, and all speak at least some English. If you speak Spanish, all the better (my wife does).

Have fun and take lots of photos!

Yes! We are back from the cruise.

You are right...a cruise feels rushed sometimes. I just wanted to get one international trip in with the stepsons, before they were out of school and out of the house. We generally like to cruise the first time we go to a region we don't know...then we can go back for a 'fly in' vacation, once we figure out what we like in that area. I think I'm going to try to get groups of people we know to start going on the cruises with us--I think that having a larger group of people you know might make cruising a little more fun.

I'd actually go one step further and recommend an N95 mask for working in the yard (make sure you get the masks with an exhale valve...they are a little more fun to wear than the plain masks and don't fog your goggles as much).

YAY! (for DH's great upcoming projects--all of those sound great) I'm in the middle of prepping for a new machine in the garage (a Baileigh combo brake/press/roll for sheet metal). Got some 2"x4"x1/4" steel tube and made a spreader bar to move the thing with my 2-ton hoist. Got all the lumber and hardware to build a massive bench to support that 1200-pound combo tool and the vise, which I still don't have mounted. Of course, I'll post pics in my thread as I get that going.

You're going to make me suffer for the next 80 days, aren't ya? We have an inland passage cruise to Alaska in June. Can't wait. And your tips are good for many vacations. Thanks, Girl!

Good luck on DH helping with new projects!

Jim, thanks for the tips. I will pass them on to DH and keep them at hand. I hadn't thought about mugs for drinks or the sunscreen with bug repellant, but I am on board now

I don't speak much Spanish and I understand better than I can talk (even though my parents are fluent, English was primary in our house). Honestly, my Japanese is better than my Spanish  I'm going to go the polite and trying route - I am not above sympathy help :lol_hitti

Did yall do any excursions? We are up for anything, but nothing in particular so I suppose we just need to choose and sign up. I would like to take a day and do some fishing. Maybe find a place that will clean an cook our catches for dinner. At this point, nothing set in stone, everything is on a relaxing whim

Got all the lumber and hardware to build a massive bench to support that 1200-pound combo tool and the vise, which I still don't have mounted. Of course, I'll post pics in my thread as I get that going.

Hope it was a great trip with the boys :) I like your cruise ideas, especially bringing a group. Our cruise was my first and DHs 2nd. The first he was on was a big family cruise (grandparents, parents, cousins, aunts, uncles, etc) and he was 19. Needless to say him and his brothers were only interested in 2 things, girls and sneaking alcohol. He had more success with the hangovers  It was good to get a cruise under our belts as neither of us knew if it was our speed for a vacation.

Looking forward to your metal combo project. 1200# is nothing to sneeze at. Watch yer toes!

You're going to make me suffer for the next 80 days, aren't ya? We have an inland passage cruise to Alaska in June. Can't wait. And your tips are good for many vacations. Thanks, Girl!

Good luck on DH helping with new projects!

I am. I am so going to rub it in, like the sunscreen I'm going to put on for a day of fun in the sun :D We have some friends from Alaska currently living in Anchorage - they love the place and are outdoors and playing out there all the time. They plug AKs beauty every chance they get. One of these days we'll get up there to see what it's all about. I'm sure yall are in for a real treat.

Is that a truck in your garage or are you just happy to see me?

I was bored and goofing around the house on a Saturday. I could have gotten the truck in there far enough to shut the garage door but the rear bumper would have been an eye sore in the den.

With the truck in there I cannot open the hood, put the truck on jacks or jack stand. I think I had about an inch of clearance between the bottom of the door and the Sirius antenna on the cab. Anyway, served no purpose to put the truck in there except to just see.

Anyway, can't wait for the next house hunt. The things you learn in your rookie house

I could just see the view now from the den... Trailer hitch, bumper and tailgate sticking through the wall.

Kinda like this...

I can just see the house hunt now... "Would it be too much trouble to clear out space in your garage so I can see if I can get my truck in there and open the hood?"

Most people want to know if a current TV will fit on a certain wall, but GJ'ers have other priorities...

Exactly!

Wife and I both agree that our next house will be on our own property - not in a neighborhood. I can't work in the garage without the neighbor's kids wanting to hang out and talk. That's cool to a point, but when you're trying to focus on what you're doing, it gets frustrating. Then there's the safety issue. They just walk up while I'm welding, running the table saw, router lift...arrrgh! :lol_hitti
