Hi everyone. I have been here for a good while but never had a shop to join in on all the fun . Well that has changed . I am currently building a 30x40 garage . It's been a long road but it's starting to come to light .::beer: :deathmeta:

Things got a little wet before pouring placing the steel and pouring the concrete.

Footer poured . It has 2 #4 bars of steel set in the center of 10"x 18" footing. I think that should hold up pretty well .

Block laid starting to get excited at this point . Been wanting to build this for about 12 years and it's starting to materialize.

I'm now looking for doors . Anybody have any suggestions on a good door brand with a r value of 19 or so . I'm looking at Haas doors . The 700 series has a r value of 16.8.

I've got a question for you guys . I'm planning on putting metal on the ceiling and walls . How does one set outlet an switch boxes to land in the flats of the metal panels? Or do you just deal with how ever it falls out .

Anybody have a few tips for putting metal on interior walls and ceiling. Especially working around the outlets and switches . I'm wiring right now and stumped on placement of outlets. And the high ribs in the metal panels . How does everyone work with this issue. Set all the boxes out far enough to clear the highest ribs or try to space boxes to land in the flatter areas . Which seems almost impossible

Leave enough in the wire to move the boxes into a low. I have seen some where they used a horizontal block and mounted the box on the block so that it was in a low. You can figure it out ahead of time. The ribs are on 9" or 12" centers depending on what kind of panel you are using. We do that to place windows so we have the side trim in a low.

redhead Thanks for the info . Another question. Should I start my layout pattern from center of wall or start in a corner . Sorry for the greenhorn questions but I've never put any metal panels up before. Thanks again for the help .

You will need to install a row of blocks so you have something to attach to. Depending on the rib layout do the math and figure out where you need to start. You can start the layout in the center and work to the corner if that is easier for you. You will have either a rib in the center or a low in the center. Stack and drill the sheets so you have nice straight screw lines. I would put J metal top and bottom. What is the ceiling going to be? If it is metal you can use an angle to finish the joint. If you do use J metal the top one has to be deeper so you can slide the sheet up and then drop it into the bottom one.

Getting a little farther along with the garage. Been bad weather for laying brick this week . But should be done in another a week . Then on to soffits gutters and all the metal wrapping of exterior wood: less up keep and match the house .

Like Readhead says, you can get the boxes where you want them (between the ribs), it will just take some math. And, if you mess up you'll be able to tell by measuring from the panel that's already set.

Personally, I'd start from one side and work my way over to the other. That way there's only one length that has to be ripped.

Had some trouble finding a brick that matched the house. The brick I had put on the house is discontinued. So after a lot of searching we found some that match pretty close .
