So I finally pulled the trigger and epoxied my garage floor. After doing some research, I decided the solvent based professional version would be the way to go.

First Weekend: Cleaning, and more cleaning:
I first washed out the garage with a pressure washer and some heavy duty cleaner to get out all the grime.

Next, I used some Behr Degreaser I picked up from Home depot to get out old oil stains. I used a stiff brush and really scrubbed these parts. After this, I pressure washed it again and let it dry out.

Second Weekend: Acid etching and patching.
I bought some muriatic acid (This stuff is nasty!) and etched the floor. Afterward, there was a white film left on it. I power washed it and scrubbed it out to get most of it off.
Next, I patched some holes and cracks to get it ready for the epoxy.

Final Weekend:
I mixed two kits in a 5 gallon bucket and power mixed it for five minutes. I let it sit for 30 minutes and had the wife start doing the cut ins while I started rolling it. After this, I started doing 4x4' sections while she threw the flakes. I bought an extra bag for a total of 5 bags of flakes. My garage is 621 Sq ft, and I didn't want to do two coats so I layed it on thick. There was a good gallon or two left over.
Day two of the final weekend:
The next morning it looked great, but the flakes seemed to be "flaking off" somewhat due to the way they fell and hit the epoxy. I convinced the wife that we should clear coat it also and go all out. I am really glad we did because it looked awesome in the end.
The clear coat is easier to roll on. I bought two kits and really laid it on thick. I am really happy the way it turned out. I will re-post in a year on how well it is holding up.

I bought the profssional epoxy coating when they sold it in stores 5 years ago. I have had zero regrets. Stuff works awesome. I abuse my floor pretty good too. I drug a 450lb engine on it with minor scuffing. I am definatly using it again in my next garage.

I also used the same stuff right before Lowe's stopped carrying it in the stores. Mine has held up well for about 6 years now. Didn't use a clear coat over it though - that looks good!

Here's an old thread on the subject... LINKY

I installed this stuff in my house in 06 and it's been great!! I would not recommend using the latex based Rustoleum products. I didn't use the clear coat either.

I also used this in my last home, I applied before I moved in, 3 plus years later I moved out and it looked outstanding when I moved out.

Now I miss it, in my current home I am debating what I want to do. I really love the Epoxy, looked great and so easy to clean and sweep.

I agree you have to buy the solvent based, the stuff they carry now is water based.

Looks great! My wife has been on me to get our garage done. Where did u get the Epoxy and clear coat? Did the clear coat make the floor slippery?

I talked with the pro painter in our car club - the bathrooms at our dragstrip used that with a clear coat. Still looks good after 9 years.

I did my old garage with it over six years ago. I have no regrets, I did a lot of work on it, slid jack stands, engine hoists, complete subframes, ect across it, had burning fires on it, every chemical you can imagine. The only two thing that effected it were doing a burnout with a motorcycle and overspray from underbody coating. Those marks are still there. Since we moved out the house has been a rental. The previous tenant kept his dogs in the garage and they peed all over it. After he moved out I sprayed the floor down and squeegeed it out, looked good as new.

My only regret was not doing a clear coat to make it a bit glossier and easier to clean. Since you did a clear you should really enjoy it. If I had decent concrete in my new garage I would do it all over.

Mine was done in early '10 with Rustoleum and has held up great. I also top coated it with the clear, which has really helped keep it looking great.

Where did you purchase it?

Does this product self level?
