So I finally pulled the trigger and epoxied my garage floor. After doing some research, I decided the solvent based professional version would be the way to go.
First Weekend: Cleaning, and more cleaning:
I first washed out the garage with a pressure washer and some heavy duty cleaner to get out all the grime.
Next, I used some Behr Degreaser I picked up from Home depot to get out old oil stains. I used a stiff brush and really scrubbed these parts. After this, I pressure washed it again and let it dry out.
Second Weekend: Acid etching and patching.
I bought some muriatic acid (This stuff is nasty!) and etched the floor. Afterward, there was a white film left on it. I power washed it and scrubbed it out to get most of it off.
Next, I patched some holes and cracks to get it ready for the epoxy.
Final Weekend:
I mixed two kits in a 5 gallon bucket and power mixed it for five minutes. I let it sit for 30 minutes and had the wife start doing the cut ins while I started rolling it. After this, I started doing 4x4' sections while she threw the flakes. I bought an extra bag for a total of 5 bags of flakes. My garage is 621 Sq ft, and I didn't want to do two coats so I layed it on thick. There was a good gallon or two left over.
Day two of the final weekend:
The next morning it looked great, but the flakes seemed to be "flaking off" somewhat due to the way they fell and hit the epoxy. I convinced the wife that we should clear coat it also and go all out. I am really glad we did because it looked awesome in the end.
The clear coat is easier to roll on. I bought two kits and really laid it on thick. I am really happy the way it turned out. I will re-post in a year on how well it is holding up.
