Potato farmers are good people to know.

Mostly because they are good people, but also because they have every toy known to mankind.

Took my trailer over to a farmer that we do work for regularly, and used their scale.

Empty, with just the rear wheels on the scale, it weighed 700 lbs. with just the jack on the scale, it was 360 lbs. total trailer weight at 1060 lbs.

Assuming it has a 3500 lbs axle, I have a max payload of 2440 lbs. figure in a % for fudge factor, and call it a ton plus.

Also got a chance to really road test it, and it handled just fine. A minor bit of bounce at freeway speed when you hit a small bump, but loaded it should smooth out just fine.

Overall, pretty happy with it. Going to haul a couple logs home from about 30 miles away tomorrow. It’ll be interesting to see how it behaves.

Picked up a couple logs from my coworker’s place this afternoon, while he still had a forklift onsite.

Smaller than he told me, but nice for a initial run down the freeway.

He’ll get a few boards out of it, and he’s got an infinite number of projects on his acerage.

There is a massive trunk standing creek side next to his house. Wish I knew how tall it was before the top broke off

Depending on the options, that sounds about right for new.

Here’s their website for selecting options, with pricing.

Yeah, they were asking $10k, I asked if this was the H126 or just an older model. Response was very sarcastic. Ad reads "I know what I have"....

Mrs, Rivennhewn sold your dogs and your truck? And gave the guy who bought it wood?
Sounds like the beginning of a really sad country western song.
My life always resembles a sad country song.

But they’re the best songs, so there is that😜

Beautiful. Well done.
Thanks!

Last night’s freebie looks like a Cypress.

Fairly recent fall, as it’s not really degraded.

Looks all fresh and clean inside! (Besides the ugly little critterz under the bark)

I guess I didn't know Cypress grow around here. I always thought of it as a southern US species.
At least two different trees going under the name cypress. We have a Monterey cypress in the yard which is cust another fir, not the rot resistant species from the south.

Just a guess really.

The tree identification app on my phone says it’s 34% chance of being a Cypress.

Most of the Cypress I’m aware of grow differently.

Prep’d another area to stack wood.

This is mostly 2nds. To good to burn, but not good enough to get excited about.

This pile will probably be my winter load in the kiln.

Also bought a CL dehumidifier to run in the kiln to help dry in the winter months. Will be interesting to see if it helps.

30 minutes run time, and a less than impressive amount of water from the dehu.

But, the RH in the kiln is 21% today.

49% outside.

Not much water to pull out of the air

Actually got to cut some wood today!

Buddy brought up an Oak.

Turns out it’s an Oregon White Oak, and looks nothing like we expected. A lot like Holly in color and grain.

Nice looking material.

Being a “city tree” I ran the metal detector over it and found about a dozen nails.

Found a couple more with the blades(plural).
