I gave away a ~40 year old Stihl 028 Farm Boss when I moved from AZ to WA; it had never been in the shop. Still running perfectly today, according to the guy I gave it to. Wish I still had it.
I gave my Stihl to my buddy back in WA. We were loading the U-Pack trailer and I thought "I won't be living 2000' back in the woods in Florida, why would I need this ?" :willy_nil

For it’s 45th birthday, I bought my chainsaw a carb kit/tuneup.
First time it’s ever been in a shop.

They couldn’t date it with the Stihl website for dating tools by serial number, because it doesn’t go back that far.

Can’t wait to get home and fire it up!

Send me the serial number. I'll give you a year of manufacture.

I got a chance to make the initial cuts on the big Cedar today. A bit of a challenge because it’s maxing out the mill. The sections from the lower trunk will only get harder.

Then I noticed that Woodland Mills has a new accessory that just might help.

Instead of ordering one for $100 plus tax and shipping, I went to the shop. Less than 5 minutes later, I had one.

Holy ****...
What a disappointment after all that work wrangling that whale around for a week.
It must leave you with a hollow feeling.
Devoid of accomplishment.
Gutted.
Empty inside.
Unfulfilled.
Lol.

Quite the opposite. I love a good creative challenge. It’ll still produce some boards, and maybe some beachfront landscaping/tidal protection.

Would rather have clean, pretty, sellable wood, but it’ll still get used.

I also cut some maple bow staves this afternoon.
Think I’m going to try and make a self bow.

Looks like a fun process.

Glad you can look at the log as half-full instead of half-empty.

I know a guy that cuts hollow logs into 4" thick rings, then him and his wife make miniature landscapes in the center, mountain landscapes and such. They sell them at fairs as wall hangers.
Not really what I see you doing but there is always a use for every piece.

Thinking about setting a section up like a pot, and plant a tree in it. As it continues to rot, it will feed the new tree. Should hold water as well, which is a problem when your whole property is sand from dredging the channel.

Into position .

The little peeler logs I cut a couple days ago came in handy. Which is good, because the log arch was too small for this beast.

Should be saw’n logs, but it’s a kiln day.

Solar panels ain’t flopp’n in the wind no more!

Working on weather wrapping and threshold on the loading door, then onto insulation. After it cools down in there😬

After weeks of no activity, it’s nice to get some progress going again.

Couldn’t stay away from the mill.

Loaded up a 13’ section of the big cedar with the center rot. Probably 2500 lbs worth.

Finally managed to get it loaded.

It exceeded the capacity of the mill. Had to cut it where it belled out as it transitioned to the roots.

Even with the rot, there is still plenty of useable ( by useable I mean beautiful) material.

I've been sitting on three very large cedar logs and the big one has some center rot, I will take them to a saw mill someday! I want a cedar wall behind the claw foot tub.
Ugly channel log to Cedar tub wall.

Call around, and see if you can find a local guy with a trailer mill.

So much easier than loading and trucking.
