For a short period of time, anyway.A magnetic starter is a relay. The motor will start without it.

I been told SB's castings are made in Toledo, possibly at the sameCurtis compressors have been around longer. I believe since 1907. I love my 7 1/2 hp 29cfm at 175psi compressor. It will keep up with just about anything i throw at it.
guys - i guess christmas day (and Merry Christmas to all who celebrate) is the right day to tell the guy that sold me this with a broken crank, it is just wrong to have told me that it was in perfect working order but just stored and not with power available, that is is just wrong - and i know he knew because it looks like it was jb welded together - don't know if the pics show, but there are a couple of gobs that look like dried plastic weld - so to you, seller, i say that i hope santa leaves you a lump of coal in your stocking because you were definitely not a good boy!
I would suspect a major seizure in the bore might do that...
OK - ended up shipping out for a month for work...
have the overhaul kit and the new crank - now need to find time
started to paint the pump
got a swatch from the paint company SB uses - the paint store was able to match

Did you buy a new crank or find a used one? These are excellent pumps that will last for many years to come well worth the investment. Id rather put $600 in these over buying a new unit from depot.
They are the Snap-On of air compressors. The only problem is China is starting to move in to the product (mag starter, pipe fittings, drain, belts, motor pulley, unloader valve? and psi gage.
it did - compressor runs beautifully
