Scissor lifts

Hey;

I'm looking to invest in a scissor lift for a couple reasons.

1) I change from winter to summer tires and back on 2 cars, and jacking one corner at a time is a pain in the ****.
2) I do my own brake maintenance on 3 cars - pads, rotors, bleeding (both me and the brake lines...), etc. - and jacking one corner at a time is a pain.
3) I have an old Porsche 911, and it's so low that even changing the oil is difficult.

Any feedback on these guys? http://www.gregsmithequipment.com/Mid-Rise-Lifts-s/60.htm

Also, how level does the garage need to be?

FWIW, I'm looking to lift:
2004 Porsche Cayenne S (tires & brakes, mostly)
1998 BMW M3 (tires & brakes plus minor maintenance)
1978 Porsche 911SC (brakes, oil, basically everything short of rebuilds)

Thanks!

Well you have the right stuff to lift!
I have no idea about these guys, but I will say that I have kept an eye open for scissor lifts by Rotary on ebay and CL and I see them here in the east pretty regularly. Lifts seem to me like one of those things worth paying a premium for, like vises, ratchets, torque wrenches. Especially since in this case you are trusting it with important body parts.
So I'd hold out for a Rotary.

Greg Smith has a warehouse in Indianapolis a few miles from where I live, and I've been in there several times. If you live in Chicago, it's only a 3 hour drive down, and everything is set up for you to look at and demo.

They also have some other locations, but I'm not familiar with them.

I've been looking at those mid rise lifts - there is a black one that is $1295 that looks pretty good. As with all that chinese made stuff, the basic structure is fine, it's all the details that you have to worry about. In the case of the lift that would be the pump, motor and all the joints - on this mid rise, there really isn't all that much to go wrong.

I'm like you, I do four wheel maintenance all the time, but don't have ceiling height to put in a 2 or 4 post full size lift. I also like the fact that this is moveable - you can drag it out into the driveway and use it there if you want.

Those are limited to 6K pounds - The cars would be no sweat lifting, but a Cayenne might be close. I saw a picture on their site with a Tahoe on one, and I bet that's heavier than a Cayenne. You also might have a ground clearance issue with the 911, but you can get around that by driving up on some 2x10's .

I believe Harbour Freight has one similar, at a similar price, but the stuff greg smith sells appears to be a significant step up from Harbour Freight quality.
