Anyone notice that Sears must have widened the search area for "store pickup" because now when I look at stuff, I have the right zip code entered, it's giving me a hometown store waaay far away that it never did before...

I'm kind of glad they did, it's too far for a regular trip but when I drive to visit a friend down south it's along the way... Apparently there seems to be a lot of USA hand tools still available there... lol. For that matter I still haven't been to the Hometown store in my friend's little podunk town either, keep forgetting to go!

I believe i mentioned that a couple weeks back. I think it happened when they announced they last round of closures

Yep, they increased the radius from 50mi to 100mi a couple weeks ago, on both sears.com and kmart.com. I think the timing was more in line with the last round of closures (announced in Nov) concluding in the latter part of January; the next round of closures was announced earlier in January than this change happened. Trying to reduce the amount of products that come up on their sites with no way for people to get them.

Hi BMack37... in your Knipex spreadsheet, have you been tracking any of the insulated pliers? I'd like to pick up a couple with my points. Some look like decent deals... like 8" combo pliers (Model 02 08 200) at $35, the 8" cutters at $45 (Model # 74 08 200) and 10" Cobras at $60 (Model # 8728250)... but I haven't been keeping a close eye on them.

I'd also like to pick up a couple of the long nose pliers... however, they don't appear to be discounted as much... so I may wait on those/look elsewhere.

Thanks!

Have you use the price tracker at shopyourway.com?

Find your item, click on Price Tracker at the bottom. Click "Track Me". If you go back and click on Price Tracker again, it shows the ~6 months of price data. Not sure how accurate it is, but may worth looking into.

Knipex cobra is not a good deal. imho this one is a better deal, unless you really want to have Knipex brand. For $50, you get the same plier in 7in and 10in, except they are branded as Craftsman instead of Knipex.

Good luck

Thanks Avalon... I will give the price tracker a try.

Regarding the Cobras... I do have the Craftsman-branded ones (which are nice)... but, in this case, I was referring to the insulated version:

http://www.sears.com/knipex-10inch-insulated-cobra-pliers/p-00903266000P

The 'usual suspects' (e.g. Home Depot, Zorro) have it a little cheaper... around $48... but I figured with coupons, FreeCash points, etc., it might be a good way to use up some expiring points.

It's okay for general high / low range, but it does NOT always track the absolutely lowest price.

I haven't been tracking any of the Knipex insulated but generally I'll buy Knipex when they're lower or the same price as Amazon or Chadstoolbox. HD is generally at retail, Chads and Amazon can go under retail.

How far South? First you were poaching Craigslist deals and now you're even poaching our Sears? :willy_nil

LOL... no no no... It's in Arkansas...

Though there is a Sears (Hometown?) in Cassville, MO that always pops up with stuff in stock, I've heard that is a huge store. I might have to take the road trip there one day.

Honestly with all these $50 BIP on $75 in tools sales.... I think they are clearing out all their tool inventory before removing the tool department entirely. They seem to be converting to a appliance/bed store at this point. I just wish there were some good deals to post, since most of the deals are kinda dead due to this promo.

Yeah, best things I've found were basically the same price as Amazon... Except I can use my points for freebies...

The $50 BIP deal's last day is the 10th, meaning the points will expire by the 17th (Saturday)...

President's day is on the 19th (Monday) so that would seem like the next likely time frame for price drops, right after all those points expire...

Aluminum truck tool box, reg $180, now $53.92.

Shows out of stock for delivery, and unfortunately none near me, but someone may get lucky...

Yay, another holiday weekend coming up, hopefully that'll mean another opportunity for bounceback coupons with in-store purchases. :bounce:

I like my little 7" sliding miter saw. Fits in a small space and cuts wider then my old 10".
No where near heavy duty enough for constant use but for household projects it will do fine. Was only $109 since I had a $20 off 100. The non compact version would have been $98.

Looks like tool prices are coming back down, but it's mostly sale prices that we were already familiar with for several months before the $50 cashback offer appeared.

I posted some time ago about how Sears seemed to have lost their stud finder manufacturer last year (I forget which company someone here figured out it was). Now they're back (in stock at my local store and available for shipping), though only the lower-level models:
$14.99 on sale for $12.99 http://www.sears.com/craftsman-stud-finder-with-led-display/p-00949061000P
$19.99 on sale for $17.99 http://www.sears.com/craftsman-stud-finder-with-spotlite-pointing-system/p-00949062000P

The midlevel model is actually back in stores too, just miscategorized under 'laser measuring tools' instead of 'stud finders'.
$39.99 on sale for $37.99 http://www.sears.com/craftsman-ssi65-measuring-tool/p-00949600000P

The higher model I got last year is http://www.sears.com/craftsman-wall-scanner-with-ac-wirewarning/p-00949067000P , which is still unavailable for shipping and out of stock at most stores, but if you happen to still have a rare leftover near you, it is at a good sale price of $41.92 (that's what I 'paid' last fall for the last one my store had), regularly $59.99.

I was putzing around been needing to order a couple things off SearsPartsDirect... I had a good amount of points but wasn't sure if the SPD checkout would let you use them. I googled and found out you can earn points but not spend them...

Just for grins I searched the part number on Sears website... eureka! They were listed as sold by partsdirect. I was able to use my points towards the items, but not shipping, which no free shipping either.

So basically for the cost of shipping I was able to get my stuff from SearsPartsDirect. :) This is going to take my points spending to a whole new level when I can't find any normal stuff to buy... hehe...

If anyone needs a cheap filler there are a number of craftsman professional sockets starting in the two dollar and up range that do ship. You know if you have enough carpenters pencils and keychain screwdrivers.

On parts direct or Sears proper for the pro sockets? Any certain search term use to bring them up en masse?

There's also a few industrial wrenches listed (including a couple ratcheting flex head) on the standard Sears site. I think 7/16 was one of them, don't have my notes handy.

Also, talked to a Craftsman rep, he indicated in 2019 a new USA made professional line would launch. I couldn't get anything the internet would consider as proof unfortunately, but I personally believe him...

What or where is a Craftsman rep? :headscrat

I've encountered reps from other companies at Sears, like a Gladiator rep setting up a display in the tool dept. Didn't know there's such a thing as a Craftsman rep.

Only way I could semi describe my source that I was specifically told not to name. I'm hoping someone can do some Google Kung Fu and find some verification to post. I take it as gospel as I know the guy, but given that people on the internet can - and do - say anything (and given that I'm one of those people to most on here), I would love to see some other confirmation posted... Especially any images as I've seen none.

Just search CM Professional, sort by price. These are actually CM Industrial, USA made singles. Not all sizes/drives available, some are ship to store, others direct ship only.

SBD announced months ago that they would be focusing on US production for the stuff they would be producing under the Craftsman brand (I linked to a couple articles about it somewhere back in this thread), which they're still working on developing. But AFAIK we shouldn't expect to see any of that new stuff at Sears - the terms of Sears selling off the Craftsman brand was that Sears could only continue selling Craftsman products produced under their existing vendor relationships.

Yeah if you were a vendor and both SBD & Sears approached you wanting a million widgets... Which company would you want to sell to? Hehe...

Something new I learned today about Sears vendor changes, while researching vacuums for a relative... Panasonic had been making the vast majority of Kenmore vacuums for decades. They stopped in late 2016. Not because of Sears treating them badly, as has been the case with most lost vendors... but because Panasonic is in the process of abandoning all consumer electronics markets in North America. :wtf: Even their excellent TVs and DVD/Bluray players.

All Panasonic-branded vacuums are discontinued and now unavailable. But Kenmore vacuums still exist, and it's not just old stock being used up... Panasonic sold all their Kenmore/Panasonic factory tooling to Cleva, the company that makes Vacmaster and Craftsman shopvacs (in China), and Cleva has continued to make Panasonic-esque Kenmore household vacuums for Sears, but not under any other names yet.

All of the General brand tools were 50% off yesterday at my local store. When I asked about it, I was told that they just received a big shipment but were no longer going to be selling them in the store.

Can you link a source to this?

This article from Dec 2017 says they are only discontinuing the TVs and that
"they still have a solid presence in several key product categories, such as Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc players, headphones, compact audio systems, and has resurrected their high-end Technics audio brand."

The discussion I found last night focused on the Panasonic vacuums, and I didn't take time to delve into the TV/DVD situation further. Good to know that at least they're staying in some markets for now (though still a shame about their TVs), but their long-term plan is rumored to be gradually narrowing their focus to B2B/industrial-oriented products like high-powered batteries (like what GE did - "GE" appliances are Haier products now, since GE would rather just build huge engines). So it may take more years before they get around to divesting those other product lines, or maybe management will change their mind before that time rolls around, but I read "still have a solid presence" as "still have a solid presence for now" in my mind.

Edit: Oh, and I just remembered another highly-rated Panasonic product line my family likes that I didn't think of last night - bathroom ventilation fans! Their website categorizes those under 'business' as a construction-oriented product, so hopefully Panasonic will continue making those too. http://business.panasonic.com/products-hvac-ventilationproducts-ventilationfans
