To me it doesn't matter what time of year it is, yes when a deal is too good to pass up go for it.

There is a difference between "cheap" and a "good deal" and that was a damn good one.

Check out the Wolverine inventory at local stores as the deal got even better when there was a sign throughout the store: "Spend $30 get $15 in cash points". Got my points to spend on the tool deals posted here.

Craftsman 3-PC. Flex Handle Breaker Bar Set

They are made in China (unless you find some NOS)

This 3 piece set came about after production moved overseas, so there isn't any USA NOS.

I worked at Sears when they first started producing them in China, and one customer came in with one he just received on warranty. The drive end was slightly larger than 1/2" and wouldn't fit on any sockets! I never did see any more like that so it was likely an early batch, but certainly a severe lack of QC!

That reminded me of this obscure vintage line of 7/16"-drive (non-Craftsman) that I found out about recently... but going in the opposite direction on size, so maybe the Chinese factory thought Craftsman was trying to start a new 9/16" line.

I've got a 1/2" breaker bar that the drive broke. Mine is made in USA, the repair kit offered is for the china ones and won't fit. They offered a replacement China one. I told them to keep it. Anyone have a lead on the repair kit for the USA breaker bar, pn#44202?

Armstrong uses the exact same drive. I would see if you can get one to suit one of their bars. While they are done being made too replacement parts should be easier to come by.

I think you're looking for Craftsman 1/2" Flex Handle Repair Kit #37926, but since they reused the same part numbers for both the breaker bar and the repair kit when they changed countries, you'll have a hard time finding it online. I looked through some eBay listings but the photos on them all showed "Made in China" on the package. Maybe set up a 'saved search' on eBay for Craftsman 37926, and go check out the photos for "Made in USA" any time you get an email saying there's a new listing for that search. If/when you get tired of waiting for one to show up, you could get a whole replacement "Made in USA" #44202 breaker bar on eBay for $25-$30 including shipping.

Check out Snap-On's 9/32 drive size... Why these companies would do such evil things...

Man that's going to be tough... I have a few that are different series and I swear the heads are different. I'll take a closer look at them tomorrow and report back. In the mean time, which series / length is yours?

On this page about the 9/32" history, regarding the 1942 catalog which was near the end of the 9/32" drive's production life, it mentions that year's catalog also contained more than tools: "dramatically expanded to include movie projectors, typewriters, office machines, sewing machines, and gas, electric and water meters." Sounds to me like Snap-On was considering becoming more like Sears! Interesting to think how different things might be today if they had continued down that path.

Whew... I envy you guys that has Sears close by. That jacket and boots are great deals - I could use a new boots. I have finally worn out my work shoes.

I got some great news to share, I spent my $10 freecash online on Sunday, and got another $10 freecash which will expire April 8.

I love this deal

EDIT, adding these, which I think is an awesome wrench set. I love mine. I think the lowest in the past was ~$60 iirc.

Craftsman 8 pc. XL 1/2" Drive Metric Ratcheting Wrench Set $72

" Online Only! 10% off Craftsman items. Reflected in price shown.
Expires on 04/07/2018
Valid on items marked sold by Sears and/or Marketplace except where indicated. Excludes Hot Buy, Smart Buy, Clearance, Everyday Great Price and Unilateral Pricing Policy (UPP) items. "

Do not forget that this means that you can get some money or points back if you purchase an item and now it is 10% cheaper.

I just finished chatting with Sears CS to get some points back.

I decided to give it a shot on chat this morning, and learned that the convenient chat option for price protection claims is ONLY available for online orders! Must fill out the dumb online form for claims on in-store purchases, or go bother the cashiers in person about it (it'd need to be a good bit more money involved for me to want to do that). So that's a point in favor of online orders, for those of you who have been disappointed about missing out on in-store offers.

Edit: After complaining about my previous bad experience with the form, the chat guy ended up agreeing to help 'just this once', so I got my few dollars back. But that may not work again in the future, I don't know how strictly they'll keep track of who they've already done it for.

Yeah and good luck placing online orders these days when the inventory on the shelf doesn't even come close to lining up with what's listed online.

That said you can cancel an order online and get all the points you used back, including surprise points. If they don't come back right away, wait a few days and then get on chat and ask for the points used back. They will give you back both normal points and surprise points back as normal points, with 1 year expiration date. Pretty incredible.

...

Yeah, there are things at my local stores that the website doesn't acknowledge they have, and vice-versa. The neat little "Z-driver" set someone posted about a couple weeks ago comes up as ship-to-home only for me, but both of the stores in my area actually have half a dozen or more of them at each store! For the opposite situation (website thinking they have things that actually aren't at the store), my closest store is pretty good about not having that happen, but the second-closest store seems to have more issues with that.

And even when I could order online, I often prefer to go in person, to a) be able to select the best-looking/best-working one in stock of what I'm buying, b) have a chance at the offers/coupons that are sometimes only triggered by in-store purchases (though they have been getting more generous with those on online orders too recently), and c) keep in touch with the general feel of the store conditions / stock levels / employees.

It will come up in the app.

You can add it to Layaway, but if you try to move it to your cart it disappears. If it is available locally you may be able to get it by doing Layaway. It is not available for shipping.

For any issue, just start a new chat when you see any hint of the current chat agent being unhelpful.

It's amazing how one can tell you something is not possible, but another does it right away.

You cut off the first part of the sentence, which to me implies that they're talking about how they advertised the purpose of 9/32" drive tools:

"The marketing target for the use of these tools had..."

"...dramatically expanded to include movie projectors, typewriters, office machines, sewing machines, and gas, electric and water meters."

Second this. One chat agent refused to price match the Sears appliance and hardware website ($5 hose pliers, Sears wanted $39.99). Next agent no problem. I actually received a $35 refund to my credit card before I even picked up the tool.

Those "one time courtesy's" are more to make you think they won't do it again. I had $3 expire the other night, and asked by ordering though the chat if they could honor those, and not a problem. I think that is the 3rd or 4th time i've heard that phrase. haha. Speaking of I should have my 3-gallon water jug delivered today.

Water jug? Would that be http://www.sears.com/ore-international-3-gallon-water-bottle/p-00819122000P ? LOL at Sears putting it in the 'lunch boxes' category.

If anyone is looking for some 3/4 drive sockets, my local Ace has (well, they had them last time I was there!) two different sets - 9-46305 (9 piece 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29 and 30mm) and 9-46306 (32, 35, 36, 38, 41 and 42mm). All old stock made in USA - they had several of each. Regular $139.99 and they were on sale for $69.99 at the time. That was months ago, and they don't seem to be selling any. Not sure if the link will work:

https://photos.app.goo.gl/pXJ29H1bhxhSJ91P2

If anyone is looking for a set I am happy to pick them up and ship at cost.

Just to update this - I picked up all that they had and they will be in the mail to a couple of forum members this afternoon. I'll keep my eyes open in case they dig some more out of a storeroom somewhere, but for now, they are all gone.

I just saw my local Ace has the full 16-piece set (instore $250, online $230) that is made in the USA. could get 10% off on the site, plus 12% back from ebates today. So around $180. Really have no use other than to collect one more USA item.

Same size & company, but a little more versatile. $0 OOP shipped, hard to argue. I consume a lot of Crystal Light in the summer months.
- looks like I might be able to get 10% back in points, which would almost be the amount that expired. haha.

anyone have an opinion on this hose clamp set vs this one? I own the first, actually 2 pair. I thought I ordered the opposite pair on the later order. Wondering if I should get the other one if it is potentially USA made.

I have the second one in multiple sizes. They used to sell them in a set of 3 for $40. I don't see the set on their site anymore.

They are USA made, I think by Imperial tool? They automatically lock when you squeeze something. Pull the handles apart to release.

as with almost every one of the tools posted on this thread, Not available for shipping and No store pickup within 100 miles.

The hose pinch pliers aren't available to me either, but the vast majority of what's been posted about in this thread has been widely available at the time it was originally posted. :) I know I've posted quite a few deals myself, and if something doesn't show up as available for shipping to home or pickup at my local corporate stores (the franchisees tend to have more obscure discontinued items), either I don't post it at all or I mention its limited availability.

Same for me. I live in a busy metro area and certain demographics still flock to Sears stores making deals scarce.

However disorder reigns and as a result I can *usually* find it on the shelf even if online says it doesn't exist. Then I rely on slick carefully chosen words to get the person on register to honor the price online.

Huge top tip, check out in the Women's Apparel area, they usually employ the most skilled people who are willing and able to cut through the Sears red tape if you ask nicely. The tool counter people are the only ones who have told me "no" time and time again. They even refused to do a price adjustment for me one time on a clearance item. I took the tool to Women's Apparel, chatted up the girl at the counter a bit, then went back to tools to boast that I had gotten it done despite his unhelpfulness. You really have to be willing and able to play games sometimes and know which stores and associates will make it happen for you. If it isn't shown online, find the store that has it, and physically bring it to the store that is willing to work with you to get the price you want. Just takes time. But most all this hot deal stuff takes time.

The Craftsman sale is still active, but the extra 10% off has already been removed from some items. You snooze, you lose.

I couldn't add it to my cart either, but stopped by Sears over lunch and they had one on the shelf for $19.99. I used $20 in Freecash I randomly got added to my account. Score! Free jack.

How are these jacks? I was over at my store during lunch, and they have 4 of them for $19.99. I already have a Craftsman 3-ton service jack, but the minimum height on that is 2 inches higher than the low profile one (5 1/2" instead of 3 1/2").

The other jacks have floor models out to look at, but these low profile ones are all boxed up and strapped, so can't really look at them good in the store.

Based on the picture it looks like it has a one piece handle, instead of two piece. And the rear casters look kind of flimsy. Which makes me think it is more of a Trolley jack, not really a Floor/Service jack.

Any feedback from someone that owns one?

This seems like a decent deal at $23.91 if you have some points to burn...

WEN 18 GA Narrow Crown Pneumatic Stapler

I just chatted with customer service today because the other part of my price-match never got credited to my CC. Instead they just put the ~$7 in points on my account instantly, which I'm fine with since I always find things to buy. ;)

How are these jacks?

I opened mine tonight. It was pretty underwhelming. I'd say it's the equivalent of the $29 Harbor Freight trolley jack. It would be useful for working on my garden tractors and stuff, but it's not going to have enough height for my truck.

It does have a one piece handle which is probably 2 feet long. I'm happy to take pics if you want to see more.

I should have known better but saw it, remembered it had been mentioned on here, and said why not? Its probably going back.

For anyone interested in the 2.5 inch hose pinch-off pliers, the Sears site is *finally* letting me order it for shipping/free pickup in store.

http://www.sears.com/craftsman-2.5-in-hose-pinch-off-tool/p-00947060000P

Needless to say, I instantly ordered a couple for free pickup in store.

I am half expecting them to be available now because they have switched to China, and if so they are getting instantly returned. However if not, I'm psyched to have grabbed a couple.

If you want them, I'd order fast, they will only let 4 be added to the cart, so that may be all they have?

This is weird... I ordered these a week or two ago, the expected pick-up date is April 19. Now if I order this, the date is April 12. So maybe they suddenly have more in their warehouse? Either they find a pile of US made version, or they got a new shipping from China.

Yeah for me in California they just showed as available. I tried a few other Zips around the country and they would let me order them ship to store with pickup dates around what you found.

I'm banking on them just finding more USA stock as you said. If they have gone Chinese for $19 bucks, I'll be processing the return on the in store pickup machine about 30 seconds after the guy hands them to me, and they can send them back to whatever warehouse in Timbuktu they mailed them to my store from.

FWIW, the most recent review on those hose pinch pliers was just 1 month ago, saying they were still US-made at that time.
