Oh wow, I
just found out that the "Z"-code tools (which I believe includes all my punches/chisels that I missed out on WF versions of, as well as the Ultimate Collection stuff) are NOT from an Apex Chinese factory, they're from a direct-from-China company I hadn't heard of before -
Great Star Tools (Hangzhou Great Star Industrial Co., Ltd.). Haven't found any invoices for them though, probably came through some other affiliated company name. (Edit: Still can't figure out what name they invoiced through, or maybe Sears actually kept up with paying them, unlike all the other suppliers. And I realized I had actually heard of them - they were the manufacturer listed for the folding reusable shopping bag I bought at Sears in the tools dept several years ago, lol.)
While trying to find that invoice, I found the one for the famous Kenmore Ovation stand mixers (
grey and
burgundy). (Anyone who's played the SYW game video spins has seen them repeatedly - SYW still hasn't taken that video out of rotation even though they're all sold out - and they were quite popular on SD.) Those came from Beijing Industrial Development Co., and Sears was supposed to pay the manufacturer $168.30 each, but $3 million of that company's invoices went unpaid. The regular price on them was originally $299.99, later increased to closer to $400. But Sears has been nearly giving them away for the past year - $250 last holiday season with $250 back in points (equivalent to paying ~$125 for the mixer), $225 with $52.50 back in points in Jan 2019 (that deal wasn't as good, ~$199 equivalent), and the last of them cleared out at $109.99 and $99.99 in Sep 2019.
