If anybody’s desperate to burn points I found these shark pullers and prybars which I thought had decent prices, eligible for coupons:

https://www.sears.com/search=Shark

Ship from a sears authorized supplier, some for free some with a small charge.
Seems to be made in Japan if hardened steel.
...

Interesting, I'd only been aware of their saws.

Direct link to the tools results:

For those with non-closing corporate stores nearby... I'm not sure when this offer ends, but the coupon you'll receive reportedly expires 7 days from when you receive it. First, text STOP to 73277 (Sears) or 56278 (Kmart), since this offer is only for people not already subscribed to texts. Then, text JINGLE to the same store's number. This should get you a $10 off $25+ in-store-only coupon, but it takes a day or so to send it to you.

Anyone had any luck getting this to work?

I replied Stop then submitted Jingle and there reply was

Thanks, but you're already in! Offer valid for new members only. Reply HELP for help, STOP to cancel.

This is the Evolv impact set that Sears can’t take a good pic of if anyone wanted to see what it looked like

Darn, they must've closed the loophole, someone on SD had claimed unsubscribing/resubscribing worked for them but that was several days ago. I didn't try it myself since I have no usable store to spend it at anymore.

I'm guessing that for anyone who is able to get the offer at all, today 12/31 might be the last day to get it, seems unlikely for a Christmas-themed codeword to keep working in January but that's just a guess.

They dropped the 95 piece impact set down to $279.99 from the rather absurd $439. I don’t think this one comes with a case though. If you did the $100 on $100 every day it might be worth it if you don’t need the case

https://www.sears.com/craftsman-95-pc-easy-read-impact-socket-set/p-00915383000P

Yep, the reviews confirm:

"I just want to make it clear that it DOES NOT come with a case but yet it states that it does like the smaller sets of the same item."

"comes as a mess in a box."

"This arrived as a bunch of sockets in plastic bags in a small box, placed into a larger box, it weighed 34 pounds, and the box was beat up"

"The ad made it sound like the set came with a storage tray. Instead I have a collection of random bags."

"I was very disappointed when it arrived to find that the set did not include a case."

"the set does not include a case of any kind."

"it came in simple bags no case or nothing , I was disappointed."

"They are covered in oil so as not to rust, like the other guy said, dont open these up on your carpet or light covered surfaces. Does not come with a case."

After many years of frustrating customers, it appears that some time in the past year or so, they actually updated the description to remove the incorrect line about a case.

Not having a case in that size set makes sense, the 78 piece one I ordered is absurdly heavy as it is, no one is going to be carrying it around anywhere with the case it’s like 34lbs. Plus since impact sockets are heavy and they don’t snap into the case I had the thing at less than a 25 degree angle open when I spun it around and the sockets slid into a nice heap and I had to reorganize them all. If I had to go to a 95 piece set I’d put them on an organizer in the toolbox it would be far more manageable even if they had come with a case.

Frankly I’d be more worried about the box surviving transit. When I ordered the specialty impact set the box was mangled and that was just being sent to the store and that wasn’t through UPS to the store. UPS would have obliterated it.

At least they updated the description though, they seem too lazy to update the picture of the Evolve set which you can’t even see. I uploaded my pics to the SYW site tonight since I had already taken them, at least then someone can see what the heck it is they’re ordering.

Well if you missed the 41 piece flex sockets for $128 the 17 piece 1/4 inch drive half of the set is now $69 and another $15 back in points, might be able to do the $5 off $50 coupon.

https://www.sears.com/craftsman-18-...sellerId=SEARS&prdNo=1&blockNo=1&blockType=G1

The 3/8 side though is out of stock as is the combined set.

I want to say the two gear wrench sets that make this up (which is essentially what these are) are like $80 since they sell the metric and standard separately.

I’ve ordered it in the past and at the time it was double boxed, so the outer box was beat but the inner box was in decent shape. That may have changed.

Many times I get stuff in giant boxes with one item in them and I’m surprised it didn’t shoot thru the side, sometimes it does.

The set is heavily oiled and sometimes you don’t get everything (2 of something else and 0 of whatever).

They rarely go below $200.

I think one of my sets shipped like that from them in the past was missing the e5 external torx socket but the thing now is will they have open stock to replace it? I got them to send me the replacement via chat at the time.

Since I qualified for the free shipping on the order I got the 78 piece set delivered they put it in a much larger box like the ones used for clothing then sandwiched it between styrofoam which got shredded pretty badly by the weight of it but thankfully I opened it outside.

I doubt we will see many of the lowest historical prices until all those $100 on $100 offers have cleared out which should be around the end of January early February. Gonna have to try and use coupons, and points back offers to get as close as possible.

Come to think of it I didn’t check the sticker on the case of the impact sockets to see if it had a date code of when it was produced just the sockets themselves for date stamps. I’ll check in a bit after I clear the snow off the cars.

Edit: no date code on the impact socket set, some of the stuff has had it on the label

These flex sockets are very useful. I don’t use it often but they are a lifesaver when working in tight space.

I have an 88 Aerostar in very well preserved condition but there is not much room to work on the engine in those due to design. The sockets give more clearance than using adapters. Of course being an 88 you need both SAE and metric.

For me that is the most frustrating part of working on an 80s Ford. I have a 1987 Cougar XR7 that I specifically bought a set of SAE flex sockets for when I was working on it fifteen-ish years ago. While I was knee-deep in working on something under the hood I discovered I needed an 8 and 10mm flex sockets in addition to the 5/16 and 3/8 I was using. Very irritating because the closest full-line Sears was forty miles away and the local hometown Sears didn't have what I needed. I believe what saved the day was a Chuck Homier tool sale going on at the Polish-American hall where I found some cheap socket set with a couple wobble-extensions.

My parents bought a new 1993 Aerostar to replace a 1988 E150 both of which I specifically remember my dad NOT working on much for the very reasons you listed; not that they needed much, just normal maintenance. At least with the E150 you could remove the doghouse inside to access the engine easier. Unfortunately they traded the Aerostar in on a horribly uncomfortable 1997 Pontiac Transport they leased.

Props for keeping that stuff still going without any manufacturer support. I’ve got a fleet of AMCs so I know exactly what you are going through. I like Ford over the other of the 3 but am loathe to give them any money on the new end due to lack of support on models past 6-8 years. My 1998 and 2000 Toyota vehicles on the other hand were fully supported up until around last year. As someone that only uses OEM/OES parts it’s important to me. Our 2009 Fusion needed a motor mount in 2015, part already totally discontinued. Ended up getting one from a 2012 and it fit with the 2012 bracket. Needed CV boots in 2018, Ford laughed. It’s a Mazda 6 underneath, Mazda had them for me in a week for $35 bucks. Just ordered boots for my ‘98 Toyota the other week at the dealer no problem too. Like I said, Ford is a good company but the lack of OEM part support scares me. Other brands support their stuff for 10+ years and continue to get our family’s new car spend.

+ 1 for older Toyota. I have 98 Land Cruiser, and 04 LS430. I try to have as complete set as much as I can in metric, but not in SAE. I would be in trouble if I have to work on something that has SAE lol

I generally try to stick to their most common models F150s. Crown Vic/Grand Marquis because of the fleet sales parts are fairly easy to get. Otherwise it’s off to the u pull it junkyard to get stuff.

The Aerostar was a hand me down, my parents bought it when we were kids to go on vacations, they never drove it in winter. Once I started a family they gave it to me I also don’t drive it in winter. It’s in good shape, fairly reliable but you’ll run into stuff like recently I had the blower motor go bad. Anything further in the engine bay is a pain to access.

Ford has this propensity to use mixed fasteners on older cars. 5/16 seems to be incredibly common. I heard that during the tariffs they were going to use SAE USA fasteners in certain applications due to supply shortages. Whether they ever did I don’t know since I don’t have a recent enough model year, but I wouldn’t put it past them.

The box end wrench set is here... and it’s OLD. Apex sourced and date stamps are 2014-2015 era, pack in slip is dated October 2014. Packed in the build a set packaging.

They must have found this stuff clearing out a warehouse. I still have another big points batch coming, debating if I should order the SAE set or the long handle ratcheting metrics (or both if they’re still in stock).

Wonder how much other old stuff will turn up if they’re clearing warehouses.

Edit- checked each wrench, the set was mixed date codes and the smallest one was still a Danaher stamping code. These are pretty old.

I think it depends a lot on the models for how long they support them but that makes no sense to have discontinued that Fusion part after six years. Anything I have ever needed for My 2005 Crown Victoria LX Sport they had in a day or two and same for my Cougar if it wasn't already on the shelf. But I have had similar experiences as yours but it also greatly depended on the dealer I went to; some were a day and night difference for parts and service but I also do some legwork by getting the part number to them versus the vehicle year/make/model. About six-seven years ago I was in need of a rocker panel for my 1987 Cougar and my dealer actually found one for me through their computer system! After a few phone calls I had a NOS rocker panel shipped to my door in about a week.

Which wrench set did you order? I have some points to use up by the 8th and am running out of tools to purchase!

These. They’ve been cheaper in the past (I want to say around $60) but I’m out of stuff to buy. They were out of stock for like a year and they’re not new so they found them somewhere. A Danaher coded wrench has to be like 2013 or earlier.

https://www.sears.com/craftsman-12p...sellerId=SEARS&prdNo=8&blockNo=8&blockType=G8

I wonder how much other old weird stuff is going to turn up, I think they’re closing two warehouses as they continue downsizing. If that heavy duty mechanics set from last year shows up again that was a steal.

I have been eyeing them since they reappeared online. What is the country of origin? China or Taiwan?

Apex was part of Danaher, is there a specific marking to indicate manufacture date after the spin off?

Good question, turns out there is no country of origin. Nowhere does it say anything about where they’re from. I’d assume China but it could be a mix.

Z-AJ is the 2019 stamping for Great Star sourced craftsman
A-AH Z-AH is 2018 Apex and Great Star

These newest ones in the set are are stamped A-AG which is 2017.

The pictured one is A-AE which is 2015

There is a D-AD stamped one which is 2014 but that’s an old Danaher stamping they used prior to and around the Apex divestiture which was in 2013 probably just depends on when the particular wrench was made.

I dunno if they cobbled these together from loose stock or what. The box didn’t look too worn if it’s been sitting around for a few years.

All the different date codes that were out of the set. Size didn’t really matter in the date coding those were just the first I grabbed of each. The two largest in the set though were A-AG.

They’re just stamped D- year code right before the spinoff. I’ve got a few other craftsman things from around that time floating around. I think the most surprising thing about it is the fact that they actually still have anything floating around that old.

I mean you figure the stores were hurting for inventory especially around the lead up to bankruptcy would it have been too hard to just dump the warehouses and print a picture to stick on the boxes just so they had something to sell?

I keep hoping some of that old stock will turn up at my closing store, but no, the tools department just keeps getting emptier and emptier. They only just hit 30% off today, but it's mighty slim pickings already except for open-stock sockets.

I've been hunting all over the store for small Sears/SYW memorabilia/souvenir things to acquire (considered part of 'fixtures', but no big shelves for me). They periodically open up rooms I hadn't had access to before, where I can find more stuff. I know there's still a lot of space I haven't been able to look in yet, though.

They only have about a month left, and except for tools, there's still a lot of unsold stuff left. The liquidation manager at my store does not seem to be trying very hard - I haven't even managed to catch him at the store at all except once during the first week he arrived, despite going back on a variety of days/times. I did see an electronic billboard ad for the Sears closing sale today, at least.

For anybody else looking for this kind of stuff during liquidation, check inside every desk/cabinet drawer/door that you can. And a couple of nice branded items I actually found in a small open box/bin that appeared to be being used as a trash can. :eek2: Looked like an employee quit and tossed his stuff on his way out.

Most of the small items have been $1 or less, and they let me have some things for free, such as the empty gift cards. The wood crates are $10. My store only had 1 crate accessible when liquidation started, so I jumped on it, but they have recently found a second one with a different logo (it's in worse shape than the one I got, so I decided it's not worth trying to make room for a second one, I'll let someone else have that one). I think each Sears store originally had at least a dozen of these crates with each logo (1994-2004 and 2004-2010); these were used to display Christmas tool promo items before they switched to the red cardboard bins. Unfortunately most of them were long gone before liquidation.

Stuff I've been able to get so far (a few things were from my previous store closure about a year ago):

1994-2004 Sears logo wood crate

2010-2019 Sears logo MDF sign formerly attached to some kind of small shelving unit (the veneer was coming up in a few places, but I repaired it after taking this photo)

2019+ Sears logo reusable bag

empty gift cards - 3 with different versions of the 2010-2019 Sears logo, & 3 with different Craftsman tools artwork

Shop Your Way / Craftsman employee apron

3 half-sheet-size binders (from 2001, 2002, & 2005), with the 2005 one still full of appliance-related paperwork; 2004-2010 Sears logo lanyard; Shop Your Way credit card lanyard; Shop Your Way pinback button missing its pin; 3 different goofy employee motivational bracelets; Sears Portrait Studio ink pen; Sears Blue Electronics Crew tape measure; 2 training video DVDs and an unused physical SYW membership card, from around when Shop Your Way launched on Nov 8, 2009

and a Pratt-Read Craftsman screwdriver from the back of a desk drawer (apparently the PR acetate-handle screwdrivers are better than the WF versions, less tendency to develop the infamous smell)
https://imgur.com/a/v6BHSZT

Stuff I saw but didn't buy:

2004-2010 Sears logo wood crate (the one I bought has one side that's a little warped and doesn't quite line up at the corners; this one that I passed on had worse warping, though still usable)

red-enamel Craftsman wire rack for hanging on pegboards - I don't know what type of product this was originally designed to hold, but it was in beautiful condition, I was tempted but needed to figure out if I could make room for it somewhere, but then someone else bought it

rolling metal carts with pegboard backs and organizing racks - one with Craftsman Versatrack branding, one with just Craftsman - these would probably be great for storing pieces of lumber/pipes vertically, for someone with more room than me

a Shop Your Way credit card tablecloth for a small round table

a big (~2ft x ~4ft) Sears Hearing Aid Centers sign

Goodyear Tires inflatable blimps - apparently these inflate to about 32" long - the auto dept received them for some past promotion

auto dept break-room informational/motivational banners (one example of 4)

a couple wheel weight hammers (similar to that one but unbranded) - these were tools used by the auto dept, not normally sold (I might see about getting one of these later if they're still around and cheap enough, don't have any particular need for it but I like unusual hammers)

a beat-up old unbranded hammer with an odd claw on the end that's a single surface without the usual center split for grabbing nails (might see about this one too if it's still around later and cheap enough)

a very beat-up old Craftsman hammer (I've got plenty of better-looking Craftsman hammers already, probably won't get this one; it was a very plain-looking model even before all the years of use, beige handle)

2010-2019 Sears logo water bottles - there were several of these hiding in a box under some unbranded tablecloths (might get one later)

there's a couple 6ft-long power strips in the exercise equipment area, unpriced so far but I'm tempted if they're cheap, should probably bring an outlet tester to check them out before potentially buying later

I'm also still hoping to get a couple of the small signs from outside the pickup area, but they are glued to the bricks instead of screwed, and I'm not sure if it'll be possible to pry the signs off without damaging them. The elusive manager hasn't been available to talk about this yet.

Stuff other people have found:

At Sears:
1994-2004 logo crates: 1, 2 (this one ended up in a residential estate auction later), 3 (this person got 3 and made a bookcase out of them); 4 (big pile of them got auctioned off in a 2012 store closure), 5, 6 (the video is dead, but the person who bought 2 crates there is making them into a nightstand), 7, 8, 9 (if you find one that nobody else buys till the very last day, you might be able to get it for as little as $3), 10 (a rare Sears Hardware Stores version);
2004-2010 logo crates: 1 (part of a Christmas display at someone's home), 2 (made into kind of a table), 3, 4 (plus a couple 94-04s);
1994-2004 logo rectangular tablecloth; "a loss prevention vest, a whole box of giftcards, the walkie set, 15 pins and lanyards ..." (no photos); a phone and a clipboard; another phone; a 1980s plastic shopping bag; a 2018 '125 Years' plastic shopping bag; this photo tour of a closing Sears a year ago included 125 Years anniversary signage and several 1994-2004 crates, plus a Sears Craftsman Christmas-village tool truck that I failed to spot last year; a tour of another closing Sears a few months ago included a different 125 Years sign and one of each crate (1994-2004 & 2004-2010).

At Kmarts: a store policies binder from the 1990s; a 15th anniversary pin/certificate that never got awarded to an employee; various vests/aprons/lanyards; an Employee Welcome Party DVD; an I Heart K pinback button;the famous Blue Light; and a Blue Light Christmas ornament.

They did at the time and a lot of batteries too. I think a lot of them were things they used to assmemble tools or patio furniture or for testing warranty claims etc. Those sold fairly cheaply compared to the typical store closing full price less 10%. I believe the store managers can set the price on that and anything non-inventory wise however they want. Most were $10-$20 or less if they were beat up. File cabinets were cheap (and probably 40 years old) for example. There was a large mix of lighting ballasts and ceiling tiles and ceiling tile spray paint. I did get some very nice industrial stainless steel cleaner too. Those are all cash or charge items no points. I also got a two pack of those strap wrenches they sell, but these were so old (they must’ve found them when cleaning the store room) they were made in England instead of China.

Thruout the whole closing everyone I saw was a sears employee, I never saw anyone from a “liquidator” but maybe they ran the show from the back somewhere.
...

From what I've heard of the current/recent procedures: There is only one liquidation manager at each closing store, a traveling consultant sent out by Abacus Advisors (as a 1099 subcontractor getting paid directly by Transformco, with weeks/months of delay). All other people working at a closing store are the normal employees being given more hours than usual, plus additional temp local hires just for the closing months. The liquidation manager sets the prices for the fixtures, and I've heard that person personally gets to keep either the entire amount or some significant commission amount on fixture sales, which is why you can't use points on that stuff.

So I attached the photos, hopefully they show up ok. Lots of cool stuff in a closing store. ... [2004-2010 crate & Craftsman sign]

FYI Hexen that red enamel rack attached to the white peg board is for holding those craftsman hats with the led light brims.

This would be great to hold li-ion batteries.

Funny, when I passed the upright cart at my store, the first thing I thought was that I could use it to hold pallet wood.

At the moment, my store is still open. At the moment.

That's exactly what I was thinking as well!

I'm a bit bummed I missed out on nostalgic Sears items when my store closed. There's still one more store open nearby so I'll have to look when they inevitably close.

I think it just depends on who the liquidation manager is. Perhaps I just had the luck of the draw. The total of closing stores I have been to between 2014-present in Michigan and the I-80, I-90, and I-5 corridors is around thirty and another none of them balked at me using points. When my local Sears closed in November I was able to purchase the signage shown above using points and a new C3 6-1/4" cordless saw I used $50 in points on that transaction. Were the employees supposed to? I'm not sure but for the sign transaction the actual store manager rang me up and didn't hesitate to use the points I had. The register even spit out a coupon I used on the saw transaction!

Now if I would have thought about it a little more I could have purchased cases and cases of floor tiles and glue to recover my garage floor a couple times over for little out of pocket! :lol_hitti

I hate to say inevitable, but you're right. Despite Grandville most likely being the nicest Sears left, it'll probably close when the chain files bankruptcy again.

I received my mob peddingahuas today it was shopped by the same vendor who sends the knipex out for sears now.

I bought the large fusion box back in December from amazon.de because it was half the price of sears at the time (it’s gone up since) I haven’t had a chance to open any of them yet but here they are:Adjustments.jpg

I would say the large box is just under 2 feet long for scale

no offense hexen but 99% of that **** they ought to give you free and save on trash haul off.

My girl has two turntable tie racks in the attic collecting dust she paid $10-20 ea when she thought she was going to be jewelry selling extraordinaire. These auction and store closing sales are ridiculous; it's all freaking **** they ought to just throw away like normal civilization does. Companies I worked for we threw away better trash than the fixtures these stores are selling. You can find the same thing dumpster diving or junkyard browsing.

:dunno: I know it's not for everyone, but obviously I'm not the only person who thought it would be nice to have some memorabilia from the dying years of a company that helped build America for generations. A lot of the "****" was free. And far too much gets thrown away unnecessarily.

Hrm, that is surprising. I know when I tried to do a fixtures-only purchase at my previous nearby store closing last year, attempts to use points would not work at all, I had to buy a normally-sold tool to use any points. Maybe different managers have the fixtures code set up differently in the register. I haven't tried yet at my current store closing, but the last time I got non-free fixtures stuff was some time before my online ordering (for store pickup) got cut off right before Christmas, so all my points were going towards online tool orders till then anyway. I'll give it a shot next time.

There's probably going to be another round of closures some time this month, nothing to report yet though. When they get to your store sooner or later, good luck getting those racks/carts.

Oh cool, I didn't have a use for them myself but I'll see if they're still there next week.

I got this sign at a closing store too...

Yes, that's one of the ones I have been eyeing. :) My store also has some pickup signs with the 94-04 logo, alternating with those. All glued to the wall. Was yours screwed or glued? (Or a spare dug up from a back room that had never been used?)
