Deal of the day from Sears Outlet: Craftsman 17" plastic tool box for $4.79. For some reason the link only goes to the main page when I try it. Search for tool box from there and it's the first one on the page.
http://www.searsoutlet.com/17-Inch-...56&cid=8277&mode=seeAll&itemSelectionType=all

Looks like this will only work if your local to an outlet location that has stock. Shipping is available, but it kills the deal. Unless there is a way to get free shipping?

Yea that's the problem with Sears Outlet deals.. you gotta live nearby or you're screwed.
It's about a 2 hour drive to the closest one for me, and there's never any tool deals at that one. Made the mistake of driving there to check it out, and it was 99% appliances and 1% crappy tools, and of those 1% crappy tools, the prices were almost the same as normal retail.

Yes, not worth it anymore.

In the good ole' days (a couple years ago), you used to get great deals on Made in the USA tools (especially the Craftsman Industrials). But now all the tools in the outlets is a bunch of junk.

And the appliances aren't a good deal either. You can get a better price getting a new appliance on sale with coupon codes from Sears. Why would anyone pay almost full retail price on a used/floor model/prior version of the appliance.

Sears has really gone down hill, although I'm lucky enough to have one nearby with a decent hand tool selection. I always try to keep an eye out and ****** the leftover USA stock with SYW points.

You must have visited the Fall River location. Right next to a Harbor Freight. Better tools at Harbor Freight than that outlet!

i tried to warranty a 13mm 1/2" drive socket at the local sears last week. they only had about a quarter of the metric 1/2" drive sockets in stock, and about a third of the (SAE? fractional? inch? what is the preferred usage here?) in stock.

i mean, i suppose i can understand that they only had three 3/4" drive sockets in stock, but i didnt think 1/2" drive was that exotic.

1/2 Drive is a little overkill for assembling Ikea furniture

Also anyone know if Craftsman branded gear pullers (2 or 3 Jaws) are still USA made? The pictures shows that, but we all know how accurate that is.... Want to use my $10 off $25 and my $5 in points on one of those.

I ordered one in November and mine was made in the USA.

Awesome, worth trying it!

Also, SYWR are back up. Shows my $5 from that sweepstakes thing again.

EDIT: JK, surprise points are not showing up though. Checked my email and it said they expired on the 21st. Grrr....

Got my 5000 pts, thanks for posting! And although my acct didn't show any surprise pts, when I started adding items to my cart, I got $6 off $15 and apparently $12 off $35. I ordered a Greenlee cable cutter and a pair of groove joint Channelocks for $22.62 total.

I logged in today to see if I could find anything to use a $10 surprise points on a $20 purchase..... found $10 in surprise points on a $10 purchase in the account. I couldn't think of anything sears specific on my want list so I picked up three Norton 4 1/2 grinding wheels for $0.17.

First time I've had a 10 on 10. :D

What deal was this 5000 point free yesterday? I did not reciece a text or email from Sears about this

It was part of an instant win game on SYWR. It was only for a limited time. You received 5000 bonus points if you played. I do not think there was an email or text telling about this. I only heard about it from here.

Hmm. I just got $20 surprise points within the past half hour. $10 on $25 and $10 on $75.
Will they both stack on a $75 purchase?

Sears is going bankrupt...

Is? Just... Is?

I can't believe someone hasn't put a toe-tag on that lifeless corpse. Really sad to see it happen too. Back when I was younger and just starting to buy my tools, Sears was THE place to buy handtools, everything from ratchets, wrenches, tape measures, you name it. It was all good, quality stuff. It always cost a little more than most stuff, but you knew it was the benchmark of handtools.

That was also before the era of the ever-popular big-box stores, and the vast array of tools that they now carry. I mean, there were a few of them around, but not like today, with a dozen locations of each, in damn near every city. And there were fewer handtool brands back then too, so all of that has created a flooded market, where the only way they can compete is to cut cost to minimal margins, sacrificing quality along the way.

Thirty years ago, they had some really, well-built tool boxes. Not anymore. They're not much better than the brands like Homak or StackOn. The top of the line ones seem to be ok, but all the others ****. Really thin sheetmetal and just generally, inferior construction.

All of that compounded, has forced Sears/Craftsman to fight back by cutting cost, and compromising their brand. I'm sure this could have been avoided by other strategies, but management that couldn't foresee the future, has failed them. They've unfortunately forced their brand to die a slow death.

Someone was earlier mentioning how much they've spent at Sears recently. I'll bet I've spent less than $200 total, in the last three years on Craftsman products. I stopped in there the other day because I needed a torx socket replaced, and it occurred to me that they've completely removed their tv/electronics department from that store. But they literally have hundreds of washers/dryers, refrigerators and ranges. WTH?

On an unrelated note - does anyone know why they eliminated the professional screwdriver line, the red/black handled ones? These were the best screwdrivers they ever made, in my opinion.

I recently received an $8 on $8, but it expired before I could use it. I have only placed a few sears orders total over the last 2 years.

What's the deal with surprise points not combining with other SYW coupons? Do they never combine? I could swear that I had surprise points a few weeks ago that also combined with SYW coupons, but I didn't place an order at that time.

In my experience, I haven't been able to get Surprise Points to stack with one another nor have I been able to get Points and Coupons to work on the same order. I think that something changed at the beginning of the year.

Before, you could stack one coupon of each type (points off, dollar amount off, points awarded) together in conjunction with surprise points that would occasionally themselves stack together. Now, most surprise points exclude 'coupons and other surprise points' while coupons generally exclude all other discounts. The most you can do is stack either coupons or surprise points with a special offer. The train is leaving.

It is a bit annoying that surprise points no longer stack. However, I get an insane number of points back coupons. I use them on Hot Buy items, where where no other discounts work. Also, the points back coupons stack with some other points back offers and discounts, like Friends & Family discounts or the common $10 points for spending $50 in certain categories.

Is anyone else getting a ton of points back coupons? Yesterday I used:
2x $30 points on $100
3x $25 points on $100
2x $20 points on $75
2x $20 points on $80

and today, I have a whole new round that are working!
3x $30 points on $100
4x $25 points on $100
1x $20 points on $75
1x $20 points on $80
1x $20 points on $100

I've been buying the 50% back in points gladiator stuff like crazy and getting it almost free after adding these coupons and ebates etc., but I'm getting so many I don't even know what to buy anymore! Are you guys getting coupons like these???

Have these all been in your e-mail? I have not been getting that quantity lately.

If they are e-mails, make sure to save the e-mail, those coupon codes keep reloading on the expiration date....

Lots of guesses can be found online, but I don't think anyone has provided some insider info for the definitive reason for their demise.

Read the exclusions for your surprise points. A few are still missing the "all coupons" exclusion, and you can test those in the website cart by adding a coupon. It's probably only a matter of time before every single surprise points offer will have the "all coupons" exclusion.

Yes, but I end up giving away most of them. I think I got spoiled from the good old days of SYW when you could spend just one penny and still earn all the extra points from the coupons and offers. Now, a $25 back on $50 coupon actually requires spending a minimum $50 out of pocket.

The deals used to be so crazy-awesome that it made me forgive all the website problems, promotion errors, shipping issues, and poor customer service. After they got a lot more strict with the rewards program, it's much harder to be forgiving. Still, a much better loyalty program than offered by most other places.

I've got $35 in points to waste and $15 off of $60+. I was looking at the 48pc thread restorer, but at an insane $80 I'm not gaining much. Can anyone recommend some motorcycle specific tools that I could grab at Sears? Trying to grow my stock there.

I can not recommend any motorcycle specific tools but I have been using my expiring points and coupons on Lisle stuff that I always thought would be nice to have but don't need.

Does anyone else notice that on some days everything on Sears.com is marked down slightly and then on other days, everything is list price? The differential is usually just around 10% or so, but it would be nice to get the sale prices most of the time.

If anyone has any tips or tricks on this, please let me know. I was wondering whether it had anything to do with the cookies on my computer.

Research. This is a very similar thing to Harbor Freight's fluctuation in price. For popular things, you can search on here or slickdeals to try and get a benchmark for price.

That is just how their pricing goes. It updates at midnight central standard time.

At my local Sears, they just did not sell to earn their keep. Talked with tool department manager about it and he said they were lucky the last year they had them, to sell one in a week with many times going multiple weeks without selling one. They lost more to theft and shrinkage than they were selling. Most of the cheap Charlie's were fine with the acetate handle drivers.
