Just came back from Sears, in search of the elusive Knipex diagonal cutters. They were not on sale at my store, but I didn't come home empty handed or disappointed.

8" Craftsman slip joint pliers were on clearance at $7.24 (45379)

8" Channelock long nose pliers were on clearance at $13.94 (Channellock 317)

I've had a set of bolt extractors in my Sears cart for over a week now. The online price is $19.99, and the price on the display was $39.99. I was curious if when scanned, they would ring at the online price, so I took them to the self scanner. They scanned at $9.94. I was in disbelief and scanned them two more times, just for confirmation (52060).

All three items, with SYW pts. applied, came to $22.91 before tax. And all three are made in USA, to boot. In fact, I checked all their bolt extractor kits, all made in USA.

And while there, I did see the Lisle hood prop on clearance at $13.94 (Lisle 45900) as well as some Greenlee 8" diagonal cutters at $14.**. There were also some 8" Channelock diagonal cutters, somewhere around $13 or so.

To answer the previous posters question, there doesn't seem to be anyway of checking Sears clearance prices online, you have to go there. It's very possible that clearance prices are on a store by store basis.

The price 5.97, ends with a "7". Which I think means "Clearance". So it might be store specific YMMV on the tripods.

I show 20 bucks for the tripod, and 120 bucks for the floodlight.

And many of the location-specific sale prices seem to end with a "4", as in $5.94.

You can have two Sears stores in your town, and a tool can be regular price of $19.99 at one store. While at the other it will be on sale for $9.94.

Does anyone have a way to check local pricing online? Sears used to have the localad feature, but it looks like it went the way of the dodo....

That online localad was a fantastic shopping aide for many years. When they removed the section, it felt like they no longer want to encourage us to visit the stores. :dunno:

I just noticed that the prices of all three items I purchased end in "4", never noticed that before, smells a lot like HD.

Or by not publishing clearance prices online, they're trying to force us to visit (and impulse buy).

Localad hasn't worked for at least a year now. Deal Heist may or may not work. When I just searched for it and then tried to go to tools I got a few things to show up but not much.

Search for clearance and then go to Tools and that usually brings up a few pages of mixed items. Nothing great from what I've seen though.

For anyone interested, the stores by me have had Johnson aluminum rulers on sale. 2 ft for $3 and 3 ft for $5. I would post a link but I can't find them on the sears website LOL.

That set used to be $20, occasionally going on sale for $10.

It's curious that it's now exactly double, and is on semi-permanent online sale for $20.

Just like the bit set that lists for $99.99 and is always on sale for $29.99 so that they can say "up to %70 off", Sears is playing an obvious pricing game. Consumers now correctly perceive that if the item isn't on sale, they are paying the sucker price. And that a "sale" isn't a reason to visit or buy.

I've long held a rule not to pay more than ~50% retail for a tool from Sears.

I can't explain the bolt extractor set, but with the bit set it never dropped this low when it was still USA made. I think that now that they are producing it cheaper, they can sell it cheaper, but they never adjusted the retail price.

I got the Craftsman 3/4 breaker bar, and a 3/4-to-1/2 reducer. Throw a pipe on the end, and use 1/2 impact sockets.

But for $109, I might get that. If it was USA for sure. But now they will all be China.

I think I'd trust a solid 1/2" breaker bar with a pipe over this setup. Those reducers are well known for shearing.

But I have a full setup of 3/4" sockets and a Tekton 40" breaker bar for such tasks.

If you are a SYWR VIP check your bonus deals. I got another set of coupons for the 100% points back on the Max Axess gimmicky wrenches. So I got them and then hit some of the local deals my store had which were pretty decent. Using some surprise points I got this all for about $30.
And the 3/4" set was about $114 or 119 at my local store.

Ugh, how does this place stay in business.

So started out this order with around 1,400 points in my account. Like a buck forty worth since the start of the year. Haven't made a purchase since then.

Made a $400 dollar purchase today. Found a $35 off coupon for anything over $400. And they are doing a 10% points match as well. So in short, I should get around $35 discount and $35 total of point credit.

Coupon worked (was on the shopyourway website.) Went to look at my points and it shows 20,000 or so. Somehow there was a negative balance of points that magically showed up for the last time I bought something. Never returned anything.

Between that and a coupon I can use that gives 100% points on purchases under $50 it really is nuts.

The negative running balance occurs when you have been awarded points that will not be valid until a later time. They put the delayed points on the line item, but adjust the running balance so the delayed points don't show up as spendable. Tomorrow or next week or whenever the delayed points are usable the running balances will go back to what they were.

+1 on this. I had the same issue and called them on it. What a stupid way for the system to work!

Ah thank you. It says I have 15,000 points will expire October 2th or something.

Which adds up around what I think it should.

Madness.

Craftsman 3 piece impact set: $15.99. Probably imported, but I haven't seen these on sale recently.

http://www.sears.com/craftsman-3-pc...lerId=SEARS&prdNo=43&blockNo=43&blockType=G43

I bought that set recently, I'll go look and see if mine was USA or China.

One thing to note is that U-joint thing is really big and clunky. Looks a lot bigger in person than in the picture. I almost think that U-joint thing is just about useless. I think if you needed U-joint impacts, you would be much better off with those pin-less types that are more streamline. The one in this three piece set is really big. It is a big ole' block of metal.

I think if you have points to burn, it is worth the 15 bucks for the 2 extensions, even if you toss the U-joint thing.

Not sure if this is common but looks like 50% back in points on cordless tool batteries.

This has been going on for a little while but still a good deal. You can't redeem points or the cashback is reduced

Yeah, been so long since I ordered things like this I tried to game it a little bit with a coupon but was shot down.

Still, $100 battery, $38 worth of points plus $15 surprise points and getting $25 points back in return it is quite a deal.

First time posting a deal. Sears has their 48 piece thread restorer on sale for 54.99. This is the same kit which I believe is the same as the Snap On kit based on what others have said on this site. I have been watching it for awhile and is the first time it's been on a good sale.

http://www.sears.com/48-pc-sae-metric-thread-restorer-kit/p-00942275000P?QParsing=1&s_tnt=62651:1:0

Good start.
Wound up $43.23 shipped after taxes with some surprise points.
Thanks.

What are some of the surprise points offers that y'all have received? Just trying to get an idea of what some of the best offers are.

Here are the best that I've received:
$5 off $5
$8 off $8
$20 off $40

The rest seem to be 25% off at best, and usually worse.

It probably has something to do with my spending habits, but most of my surprise points have been reduced to effectively 5-15%. I am happy to just get $10 off $40. I used to land $10 off $10 and $15 off $25 regularly years ago.
