bubinga, I took measurements of the Waterloo top and bottom chests, and this middle chest is a PERFECT fit. Just gotta remove the Craftsman logo to make it blend in nicely. Get the 2-Drawer one for $15 less. Comes out to $35 after points (ironically) for the middle chest--however, is a standard duty, not heavy duty.
Oh Good,
I "assumed" it would fit,
Thanks for confirming.

thanks Dodge 610.
Oh the waterloos are on sale again?
Tempted.
I hate the stand my lathe is on.
thinking about two bottom cabinets, with a thick butcher block across them,
Its a Logan 200, so it's not real heavy.

Which middle one did you order? 3-drawer or 2-drawer?

bubinga, had to update you that the middle chest is in stock for pickup same day. Earlier, it was showing up to a week to process. Looks like they were stocking up for Black Friday and Cyber Monday. $60 is a little too steep, but factor in points and Discover Card 5% cash back, and its a deal.

Not sure if I need it though. If I add the middle chest, I'll need to secure it some way :)

Just a friendly warning :D when I went in person for my lower cabinet after viewing online the in stock same day pickup at my local Sears store the counter girl told me that there were none available and I would have to order one (and that took 5 days ordered late afternoon on a Monday picked up on following Sat.)

I said "what gives why does say in stock?" and she says "oh all we have is the floor display unit and it shows as inventory (1 pc) but we can't sell you that one".

My advice call ahead :willy_nil

Thanks for the warning DFB, its probably just another way for Sears to lure you in their stores--pretty desolate these days

It may depend on the store. I bought my 41" Premium HD cabinet as the display model off the floor.

Managers usually don't like to sell the floor model, but occasionally they will.

Online inventory is always one less than what is in store (to account for display models). So what they girl told you is BS unless one was purchased between when you looked online and when you got to the store.

The 3-drawer feels a lot less flimsier and more sturdier than the standard duty drawers. The HF drawers are still ahead of the Craftsman Heavy Duty in terms of sturdiness. The ball bearing mechanism of the Craftsman isn't as smooth as HF. I didn't grease the slides, may be I should. The finish is a tad better, but is not perfect either. Paint seems like is going to hold up better. Its perfect for DIY'er. Its pretty tall now, I won't be needing a stool though, lol

How does it seem as far as fit/finish, "heavy duty-ness", etc.?

Pictures or it never happened ;)

I would think when the drawers are loaded they will feel smoother

Winlinmac I'm curious as to why did you wrote earlier you felt a need to secure the middle box? I have had a middle box for years and the pieces stack fairly secure but fo course I don't roll it around much.

I noticed two pre-drilled holes on top of the middle chest. I'm not that apprehensive of the top box tipping over, but I remember with the first Craftsman tool box I got from Sears this year, fasteners were included to secure the top box.

As promised, here are the pictures showing the middle chest in place with the top and bottom Waterloo chests. Notice the differences as well as similarities. Blends in just about right. Its good to have a heavier duty chest as an intermediate to the standard duty chests.

I'm not sure why these pictures aren't appearing as they're supposed to.

I am glad the handles look like a decent match. The new Craftsman lower cabinet I just bought has noticeably different handles than my other two units. Doesn't really matter much to me though as it is located entirely across the garage from the others.

Those handles are very identical in terms of make and composition. They all are made by Waterloo in the same factory. I would the only aspect noticeably different is the rear of the drawers. The middle chest also appears to having slightly more width as per the pictures.

I'm glad I didn't go for the standard duty this time around. I didn't call before heading to the store. I first checked in person, then ran an inventory check, placed online order through phone, and got pick up confirmation within several minutes.

Another thing I like in the 3-drawer Heavy Duty Middle Chest was the closing mechanism of the drawers. They seem to snap into place when closing the drawers. Doesn't feel like its going to open unless a good amount of force is exerted.

The standard duty 2-drawer boxes do not have a lip around the edges to hold the top box in place, they require you to bolt the middle and top boxes together. The 3 drawer heavier duty ones pictured have that lip, so not bolting is necessary.

Excellent, thanks for the clarification. The lips don't protrude out much, and funny to say I don't see any of the Craftsman top boxes having the gas struts.

In the beginning of the month when they originally went for sale $49 and $50 respectively, used $15 off on each to bring total to $70

The price remains the same, but the availability is limited

winlinmac, when did you buy the waterloo's?

Looks great with the middle box. I wouldn't be surprised if there's someone around here that would trade a Waterloo badge for that Craftsman badge.

The $15 off coupon codes (470000####6228#) don't seem to be working at the moment, or I'd probably be grabbing a top box.

Yes. Added it as a topper to my basement box circa 1998.

Build quality seems consistent with the one from '98. Finish is perfect.

Drawer color is black; not the dark grey of the '98.

The display model in the store had drawer liners but they don't come with the box. That's a separate item.

Metal thickness is 0.044. With paint that probably makes it 20 gauge steel.

Sears' description says 110 lbs. I didn't weight it but carrying it into the house with my son - the weight is probably accurate.

There is no indication of country of origin. The cardboard shipping box was made by a company in Iowa.

EDIT: This is the warranty statement. MADE IN THE USA WITH US AND FOREIGN COMPONENTS
Nothing wrong with that.
