Does anybody understand the VIP Program? I hit silver last year and it seemed like you got one good coupon a quarter. In October, I scored a 100% back in points on a $50 purchase coupon. Got a pliers wrench at retail and then a second one with the points). I assumed that I would get a similar coupon in January, but nothing has shown up yet.

The benefits for this quarter are out and they are terrible. No $50 back coupon this time. Go to shopyouway.com, type "vip" in the search window, then click on "choice benefits". It will show you this quarters offerings.

Went to my Sears Hometown store today and got the Gearwrench 20pc ratcheting wrenches on sale for $44.99 minus all my points so paid $7.38 out the door.

They still have the 6-pc Extreme Grip Diamond Tip Screwdriver Set for $17.99 (online they jacked up the price to $39.99), good till the 7th, tempted to go back and grab a set.

Somewhere on there it says that they are replacing the choice benefits program in the near future. My understanding is that currently you call select all of the offers, rather than just one. What used to be an awesome perk now *****, but I'm guessing it has to do with the fact that it's now easier to become a VIP since they changed the requirements.

What's everybody think of those? I've been in the market for a new screwdriver set.

If you can get them on sale they are nice. I like the larger handles and the diamond impregnated tip really does help grip. I don't know how well it will last long-term, but they have a lifetime warranty (or until they decide to stop making them). These I treat well and only use for screws, and I still use my regular screwdrivers for the occasional scraping crud or prying something open...

I would recommend either the 6-piece or 14-piece set, the 10-piece has a bunch of stubbies and also several PH0 drivers (unless of course you do a lot of small phillips screws)... The website tells you the exact sizes of each package.

Got another email from sears - $8 off 45, and warned me my points would expire on the 11th, - clicked on combination wrench sets and up came girls outerwear. Hummn. Clicked on ratchets and sockets, up came computers.

This after yesterday telling me two different coupons wouldn't work on a wrench purchase, so I settled for a $7 in points off - and then during checkout it wouldn't accept my debit card. Seems to have a problem with debit cards. Oh well, didn't really need the wrench set that bad anyway. Getting so I just glance at their emails and then deep six them.

Sears seems to crash my web browser just loading up the cart. :shocking:

In any event, I went to close the browser after a small purchase (depleting all points)...but it refreshed...leaving me with $12 points (no min) :headscrat.

Basicall all of the points I just spent, instantly refunded. :spit:

Sears is a crazy, bordering on absurd shopping experience.

Of course, I spent them again. :bounce::bounce:

Probably part of the reason they are going in the hole...

I was talking to the owner at my Hometown store, we got to talking about this and that about old tools and such. Somehow on the topic of how they used to rebuild ratchets but don't anymore. Sears told him back when they stopped rebuilding them in-store just to "toss" all the rebuild kits... Guess what he did with buckets and buckets of the rebuild kits he had on hand... :D I've only had to get maybe one ratchet repaired in my life, but if I ever need to again I know where to go. :rocker:

LOL, at first I thought the screwdrivers were glow-in-the-dark, but then realize they just meant the bottle opener... Why would you need one of those to glow???

"Bottle opener with glow-in-the dark handle is easy to find."

That's wonderful marketing right there... haha...

Craftsman 36 inch Bar Clamps were at my local store for $15.99. No discount online. These are the ones made by Wolfcraft.

Their more basic F Clamps seemed to have a new handle design. Rather than the red wood handle the new ones had a red and black rubber/plastic look to them.

Your math makes no sense to me. For the 14pc set, it should be $34.99 - $11.30 of your points = $23.69 x 50% back = $11.85 back in points

If using the mobile site, then it won't recalculate reward earnings after redeeming points as payment.

In the end they gave me $15.54 back in points. This was the only thing on the order. I paid $24.30 after tax. The points were for this order only (I called up the individual order in my SYW history and it specifies points earned on each order). I can't find any corresponding percentage that makes any degree of sense LOL. The apparent error is in my favor so....ok.

Anybody else see this at their local store? I'd love to grab more of these for that price.

Good boy. That's the Sears I know.

LMAO... Yeah I ordered some prybars & screwdrivers. The screwdrivers were in an oversized box but arrived perfect. The prybars they just kind of folder some cardboard around it with a little tape barely holding it together. Thankfully those were actually shipped from one town over (about 25 miles) so it's not like they had far to go.

As for SYW right now, some of those items that are 50% back in points, up until a day or two ago they had additional % for some reason, and if you are a max member you get another small additional %, and if you are a max member and pickup in store you get another small additional %... It can add up when they do promotions during certain times of the years...

Right now it looks like everything is dead. The few items with 50% back in points is all the bonus you are going to get. Most of the sale items will end on the 7th, and we probably won't see any big deals again until the next holiday.

I did an excel sheet of what I've bought since right before the new year from Sears doing SYW deals, promo points, coupons, discounts, etc. I ended up spending ~$100 out of pocket, but acquired almost $300 in items either buying oop or using points (that value figure doesn't include tax on the items either, but that's the prices the items were when I bought them, many have gone up considerably since then). What's the true cost for those items, I have no idea. Most I picked up in store, but a couple I shipped via SYW Max.

Trick was to pay oop and only use $ off coupons on items that gave big points back so it matched in points. Then buy items using points + surprise points that are on sale / hot buys but don't have any point deals (because purchasing with all points will bring the cost to zero so it negates any bonus). But then other little things like use just a few points when you buy at least $15, and we'll give you $10 in points was easy to do. And I had a couple point deals with no minimum so I got some cheap things free.

Anyone else having problems using surprise points when paying with a sears card?

Supposedly you get an additional 5% off tools when paying with a sears card and another 5% for something else and then you have surprise points but when I pay with my sears card I can't use surprise points at all even when they mean more of a discount than the 5%

The surprise points are usually not valid with a coupon, and the 5% Sears card offer now applies as a coupon. Stupid, yes!

They seem to be stacking 10% in points on top of other deals today.

You can get the Thread Restorer Kit (as an example) for $30 net, with $10 cash back via points and $15 points. I don't pretend to knnow the math of how it works, just try it in your cart.

(Assuming something useful to spend the $15 points on.)

edit: OUTLAWS10 also stacks w/some points offers

I am trying to order a drill press. It's actually $6 cheaper when I use another payment method than the Sears card. It's stupid. You can use the rewards and the 5% when using another payment method.

No, I already have all the tool chest space I need right now, what I'm running out of is wall and floor space. It kills me not to snag one but now just isn't the time I'm afraid.

It is a 16" deep top chest with 8 drawers. If you have the matching cabinet and were already planning to buy this it's a deal.

I got the 42"-wide five-drawer stainless steel top chest last year for $200. It was a returned special order, or something.

Pics attached. 5-gallon bucket for scale :)

Edit: apparently PhpBB has flipped one of the photos upside down. :-\

Apparently the code OUTLAWS10 still works, I just tried it today... $10 off $50, but it won't let you use surprise points with it. I'm sure there are item restrictions so YMMV...

Also saw this, so might be a way for some to get extra points:

Members get 30% in points when you spend $50 or more on select Marketplace items. Points valid for 90 days. Max 50,000 and 1 per member.Valid through January 21, 2017 11:59 PM CST

Don't ask me what that means, you just have to go search. But someone found a little air compressor (not sold by sears) that it worked on.

Sears has cookie issues, when things just don't work that should, clear the cookies, restart browser and that may fix it.
