I emailed the offer to friends, in case they see something they might need. I LOL'd at one of the replies:
attachment.php

LOL, I guess they photoshopped that, the reality isn't that bad. ;) ($35)

Apparently impact socket sets are mechanics tools. hmm. Thought there could be a could deal on a Gearwrench set, but even the Craftsman impacts aren't included.

It does look like all Knipex is included though. Wow :shocking:

edit: looks like I took too long to post (one above)

In addition to Knipex, a lot of other top-tier brands like Grip-On, Mayhew, and Channellock are also included in the spend $75, get back $50 promotion.

That mechanics tool set deal appears to include almost all Knipex, including Plier Wrenches.

http://www.sears.com/knipex-10-in-p...sellerId=SEARS&prdNo=2&blockNo=2&blockType=G2

Could be a good deal if you buy two and use $20 in points. Use the points to buy another pair.

Careful! Other than the 10" pliers wrench, Knipex stuff does not show the points when you put them in your cart. And they do not appear in the list of tools when you click on the banner ad. They are almost certainly mislabeled on their item pages. You are unlikely to get the points credited automatically and will have to contact SYWR customer service to try to get the points awarded.

Aside from that, does anyone have any recent experience ordering Knipex stuff that is not stocked by Sears, but rather shipped direct from the distributor? Did you get your items? The last time I ordered a Knipex Cobra set that Sears didn't stock, the order was in limbo for a month and then canceled. I would try again with this prono if I thought I had a good chance of actually getting the item.

can I spend $25 in points plus $50 real money and still get $50 back?

Nope, got to spend $75 out-of-pocket real money to get the offer. That's how they all work. In the good 'ole days you used to be able to do that, but that was disabled a few years ago, because people could roll points over and over again, and have truckloads of free stuff. Wash, rinse, and repeat can't be done anymore.

I've never used or known about cash back points but I am a sears rewards member. The $50 on $75 of tools seems too simple and too good to be true. What's the catch? If this is a real thing, why wouldn't I just put a $75 dollar order in every day and get tools at less than half cost?
Just curious. Seems like a "too good to be true" thing but I'm new on this bargain shopping.

I have an entire drawer full of Knipex I ordered from Sears. I got it all quick, and most of it was certainly not stocked at Sears, because they were very special purpose types of things that they would never stock locally at a store. Things like tweeters, retaining ring pliers, and every conceivable type of needle nose pliers are not going to be at a store. Last order I had was probably November.

Sears does these kinds of deals because it forces you to spend real cash with them instead of just points, and then they hope you won't get around to using some or all of the points you receive until they've expired (notice these expire in just 7 days, instead of the 14 days that the points will last from the similar winter clothing deal that started a couple weeks ago). They can afford to put things on sale 50% off sometimes, and this isn't even equivalent to that much of an overall discount across both purchases.

Because you can't roll the points. You would have to pay $75 in real money every day. Not $25 in real money and $50 in points from the day before.

If you want to pay $75 in real money everyday, and let the points keep building, you can certainly do that. But be advised, that these type of point have a very short expiration date. So keep an eye that you use them before you loose them.

There was a discussion some time in the last couple weeks about Sears.com orders that ship directly from the manufacturer, including Knipex. IIRC people said that there was a period several months ago when Knipex was refusing to fulfill Sears orders due to problems getting Sears to pay them, but that was resolved (for now) and they started shipping again in subsequent months.

I haven't ordered any Knipex stuff myself, but I have ordered several other manufacturer-shipped items in the last few months that arrived with no problems in a reasonable timeframe. The Sears order tracking system did not notify me that they had shipped until I had already received them, which is lame and kinda worrisome if you don't know to expect it, but everything else worked fine.

Ordered insulated cobra pliers at 11pm last night, arriving tomorrow. I've also ordered the 10" pliers wrench, tweezers (wish they tweeters), and something else. All arrived within 3-4 days. Only thing I'm really trying to buy anymore. That and Bully Tools, if you need something for lawn & garden offers. I no longer see all of the cman fiberglass shovels they once carried. Most Sears had low/no stock since last fall.

I bought Knipex plier two days ago, in my order it shows "fulfilled by Sears Authorized Supplier". Is this what you mean by shipped from distributor?

I do not have the plier yet, but it should be here tomorrow per tracking number from UPS.

Yes, "fulfilled by Sears Authorized Supplier" means it comes to your house directly from the manufacturer/distributor, instead of from a Sears warehouse or a Sears store elsewhere in the country.

Exactly what @Hexen said ^. 7 days expiration :eyecrazy:

Companies know that not everyone use their coupons/rebates etc. If my memory is correct from work many years ago, I think the average is ~40% of people who purchase a product filled out/use their coupons/rebates, so 60% of them paid full price.

It also means it should arrive in perfect condition and more likely in the appropriate size box

Sears is now showing stock availability based on 100 miles, rather than 50. Guess they think people really want to drive to a Sears.

I guess it makes the site look a bit less embarrassingly barren, even if it's unlikely anyone would go that far unless they already had another reason to be going that way.

The Kmart site started doing the same thing in the past day or two. It made me aware for the first time that there is still a Kmart about an hour and a half away from me in a neighboring state, when the only ones I'd been aware of before are hundreds of miles away. I very rarely drive there, but I know some people in my area do regularly for work or fun, so it's plausible a modest amount of additional customers could come out of this.

I'm finding it really hard to find anything available at my (last) local Sears. They aren't on the store closing list and the last time I was in there they were fairly well stocked. But it is getting really hard to buy anything online for store pickup.

Depending on what kind of products you're focusing on, you may be in a category that Sears has lost vendors from. Even decently-stocked stores can't fill some holes anymore.

And if you're looking at things that aren't carried in your local store that you hoped to get shipped to store to avoid having to make a larger ship-to-home order, it seems that only things which Sears has in stock in Sears distribution centers will ship to store; many items on the Sears website as 'sold by Sears' that aren't in your local store are only still shippable to home, either directly from the manufacturer or from Sears stores elsewhere (neither of which will ship to a store, which is annoying and dumb because shipping to a business address costs them equal to or less than what shipping to your home does, and all the items in a larger order get shipped separately from different locations anyway).

Try having only a Hometown store near you! When I go to my Hometown store I will take pics with my phone of things I'm interested in. But usually now I'm having to get most things shipped if I can make the free shipping minimum.

BTW, be aware that although they kept pushing back the end date of the $25 free shipping minimum (vs $35) for the last several months, it stopped changing end date a couple weeks ago and is currently scheduled to end on Feb 3, 2018. They could still change the end date again at the last minute, but I'm not currently optimistic.

Does anyone know the date when the Sears stores are supposed to close in January? Kind of tempted to drive down to the store but it's 45min away.

I was looking for a cheap drill press and last night (after placing my order) 3 craftsman models went off the site along with a bunch of direct ship models. There is only one big craftsman one still online... I bet a lot of their other bench top tools disappeared as well.

I might have even paid up a bit for the WEN 12" if they didn't have it overpriced by $70.
Now to see if mine actually ships since it was deleted like 2 hours after ordering.

Sounds like another vendor cut them off until they catch up on payments. The disappeared products sometimes reappear once that happens.

Probably not worth it. When my Kmart closed, they immediately took everything off sale, and went to full retail. Then, slowly started marking down from full retail.

The prices were actually higher with the "store closing sale" then when they were in regular business mode with sale prices.

I used to get stuff at Kmart on a weekly basis, but once it "closed down" I never bought anything again, because over the course of 3 months or so the prices were higher than ever.

I'm going to swing by my closing sears tonight and see if there is anything left. Next week is their final week before shutting down.

Oh and I just got my tracking number for the drill press. Guess I got the last one. Spent $19 oop after winter clothing $50 and kmart $50 + $15 FREECASH.

Unless you have want to waste your time, don’t bother. Remaining stock is scattered and portions of the store are blocked off. One thing they’ll have plenty of is junk that the liquidator brought in to sell at his prices.

You’ll be disappointed at what’s its come too.

I went through my local sears when they closed Down at the beginning and maybe 2/3 way through. Lots of shoppers but too bad they didn’t show up until the end.

Okay, I won't waste my time going, thanks for the heads up everyone.

When mine closed there was a decent selection of clothes and what not. There was a ton of T handle screwdrivers.... multiple isles worth. I was willing to buy some jeans etc at "75%" off, however they had a single line open and it was out the door. Once I saw that I just left. Not worth the wait for a minimal discount over what other stores sell daily.

As many people said, the prices generally were a lot better pre-closing.... with a lot of tools 60%-75% off still being more than they were on sale for previously.

Went to my local Sears earlier this week. It's not one of those closing but I've never seen a sadder tool department. Most aisles were 40% empty some 80%. All the hand tools were Chinese imports. The only Made In USA thing I saw was some of the hammers. I don't see any real reason to go back there.

This thread got me to drop into the local Sears today since they're on the list I posted above. Picked up a couple of USA mini screwdrivers to replace the two I use for work. Not much left to pick from (not too different for how it's been for the last couple of years), and everything was sitting around 10-20% off, so not too great of a deal.

The link you posted was for the stores that just began liquidation this month, to conclude in April, so that's not surprising at this point in the process.

The stores that started in November, concluding this month, should be at great percents off by now but will have very little product remaining because so many people jump in too soon at liquidation sales.

And from what I've been hearing from employees, even the store fixture selection will be abysmal, because they throw away a ton of perfectly-good stuff beforehand, and have orders to throw away a ton more stuff at the end regardless of having people begging to be able to buy it. Sad. Sears can't even manage to liquidate without screwing it up with bad management decisions.

That's why you go dumpster diving... Sears doesn't even open till like 10am... I would bet many of the employees are lazy and just set stuff around the dumpster when it gets full.

Yeah, it looked like they just put the signs out, and I've never seen the parking lot and store so full of people buying.

I worked a short stint doing receiving at Sears while in trade school in 2012 or 2013. If ding and dent stuff didn't sell for the discount price corporate was willing to go down to, it would go to the compactor. Employees weren't even allowed to buy it, for fear we'd all start damaging stuff to get it cheap.

Yeah cuz then they can write it off at 100% value as a loss...
