If anyone is wanting their RP ratchets rebuilt, I'd recommend doing so now.

1)Sears closing many stores and ACE hardware I can confirm doesn't and likely Lowe's will no longer perform this service.

2) Even the modern version of the kits are pretty pricey on eBay

3) I have 4 Sears near me, I know I am lucky, and of the 4 none are officially closing even as of the latest list. Aka they are all fairly healthy. *However* of the 4, only 1 store still has any 3/8 or 1/4 kits left. Stores CAN NOT order any more kits at this time although it appears Sears still has some. The other stores offered to order new ratchets shipped to my home, I declined to give up my USA.
...

Good tips, thanks for posting. :)

For anyone else who didn't catch onto what "RP" meant here, I figured out it's "Raised Panel". http://toolguyd.com/craftsman-raised-panel-ratchets-imported-vs-usa-comparison/

Most ratchets that are "rebuilt" by Sears don't actually need to be rebuilt at all. Unless you used it as a breaker bar with a pipe attached, and snapped the pieces inside.

Usually, it is the grease inside that has dried up and hardened. You usually just need to open it up, clean all the parts with parts/brake cleaner, then grease it with something like SuperLube, put it back together and it will work like new again.

Sears actually stopped "officially" doing ratchet rebuilds a LONG time ago and told their stores to "throw away" the rebuild kits and to just do exchanges... However I think most stores know their customers better than that so they held on to the kits and did the rebuilds for free since it only takes them a couple minutes and makes their customers happy (and maybe they will buy something while they are there).

My Hometown store owner let me dig through the boxes he had when I needed to rebuild a ratchet (actually worn gears, got at estate sale). I should have grabbed a few extras for my USA RPs but I didn't think about it then. I probably won't wear out any ratchets in my lifetime as I have so many... lol.

Craftsman 5pc Handle File Set is on sale online for $24.99, regularly $37.49. Great reviews, and one reviewer speculates that they are made by Nicholson.

Decided to use my bounceback coupon from my MLK holiday weekend in-store purchase on these. Reminder that if anyone else received one and hasn't used it yet, they expire on Jan 31, this coming Wednesday.

My local Lowes occasionally has some marked down scratch/dent display units that I pick up for rental unit backups when the price is too sweet. Locally the old Sears is winding down as venders are not restocking them.

I'm lookin' for the Hot Deal on how to do a W/D.

The appliance sales at Sears these days seem to usually only bring their prices down to the everyday prices of comparable units at HD/Lowes. You would receive some points back to spend on other stuff after the appliance purchase, but it's currently just at the standard anemic 1% rate back. If you don't already have a SYW account, or haven't used it in a while, you may receive some surprise points ('freecash') offers that could be applied to an appliance purchase. Make sure you agree to receive emails from Sears/SYW to be eligible for these.

Looks like their current laundry promotion, only good through next Saturday Feb 3, is:
"Buy One Kenmore Washer and get 50% off the regular price of a matching Kenmore Dryer Items Sold by Sears. Offer valid on featured Kenmore Washer (02622352000P or 02625132000P) and get the matching Kenmore Dryer (02665132000P or 02665212000P) at 50% off regular price. Both items must be purchased in a single transaction for discount to appear in cart or checkout"

If you find yourself in need of repair after the purchase, be aware that there is a risk of issues getting parts.

Also be aware, if you haven't bought a new washer in 10+ years or so, you should now expect to see numerous complaints in the reviews on every single one, regardless of brand and retailer, about them not using enough water to get the clothes clean. Most should have a cycle option for 'heavy'/'deep' or the like, which should cause it to use a more effective amount of water.

That's the offer my wife is mentioning.

I've had 4 or 5 $65 off $499 coupons thrown at me recently from relatively small buys

Look into the Speed Queen brand they sell them at independent stores not big box. It's the only washer and dryers that I know that they make like they used to. Made in Ripon Wisconsin.

It might be till Presidents day, if they were smart they would keep the inflated prices for another week so people would use those accumulated points on them.

I would just redeem those points in other departments that didn't increase prices.

If they extended the offer, then I guess they did see an increase in online tool purchases.

This set has sometimes been posted here, so it might be of interest again with the $50 cashback in points offer.

"Online Only. Get $50 CASHBACK on a qualifying Tool purchase of $75 or more."

GearWrench 32 Piece Combination Ratcheting Wrench Set $79.99

With 5% off code 9818112171874978, it's $75.99.

1) Must choose a full-line Sears store for the $79.99 price.
2) Must have a subtotal of $75 or more.
3) Must pay at least $75 of that subtotal with something other than points.

There's another clothing deal running at Sears now, but the fine print on the offer differs in two different spots Sears displays offers. Spend $20+ OOP on clothes, get $20 of points back - but the offer either lasts until Feb 3 or Feb 10, and the points either last 7 days or 14 days. And one version of its info says Levi's products are excluded, but someone reported successfully using it on Levi's, at least for now.

Shop carefully, as someone warned on another forum that they're pulling the same kind of thing during this offer as they did when the current tools offer started... unlike the last clothing offer ($50/$50 on coats) that still had many eligible products on good sale prices.

"Looks that they raised the prices of all qualified clothing.
A shirt I like is $9.99 in store, $15 online yesterday. Today it was first increased to $17 and now $26."

Thanks for the post. These definitely appear to be made by Nicholson. Unfortunately, all USA manufacturing was outsourced to the third-world in 2011:

In 2011 Apex Tool Group closed its Cullman, Alabama Nicholson file factory and other US plants in Monroe, North Carolina and Hicksville, Ohio. Cullman production was moved to Cali, Colombia, Tlalnepantla, Mexico, and Sorocaba, Brazil.

Another reviewer on Sears states that the COO is listed as Colombia, Mexico, and Brazil. That seems to confirm they are made by Nicholson. The handles also look nearly identical except for color.

The closest comparable Nicholson-branded set goes for about $39:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001T49R7S/?tag=atomicindus08-20

Edit: the part number on Sears and the Nicholson part number for the set on Amazon linked above are the same, even though the sets are not identical.

The $50 showing in my account doesn't expire until Feb 4th, even though the fine print says they should be expiring on Jan 30th. Anyone else see this?

The valid through the the promotion end date, not the point expiration date. The points are valid for 7 days after being awarded.

Is it even worth shopping at a "Sears" now that the majority of their tools are Chinese made? The store in the mall closed a few years ago, then they opened a "Hometown Store" and that is now closed...

For the first time in a long time, I can't go purchase a tool from Sears in my area. The screwdrivers, Crescent wrenches, chisels, pry bars, and maybe a handful of other items were made in the US. Nothing else was-sockets, ratchets, combo wrenches, etc. I think the first time I saw Chinese ratchet/socket sets was back in 2009ish. Anybody have a more concrete idea when they came about?

A shame for sure. The were like a cancer patient. Once the Chinese junk took hold, their death was imminent. Sad to see them leave, but with the Chinese junk, but not too much of a loss anymore.

Some of us are still finding some Sears products satisfactory (and, although in fewer cases than we'd like, some are still US-made), at least at the heavily-reduced-OOP we aim for.

Yeah, I did see the COO mentions too. Better than China, reviewers say. And yes, definitely looks like Nicholson. :)

The 1/4" ratchet set I opened last night had sharp edges on the handle portion. I was less than thrilled, but not surprised.

Yeah, I think Harbor Freight has much better Chinese ratchets than Craftsman these days. I try to focus on using my Sears points on stuff that HF doesn't have, or that the Sears version is still better than the HF version.

For me (YMMV of course), d*** worth it.

Just like other members here, thanks to playing points, I got a pile of tools from Sears. Just my humble opinion here, COO is not going to make a difference for non-pro like me. Functionally, I honestly can not tell the difference between US vs Chinese CF sockets. I have not broken any of them, but I do not push them to the limit either.

Lately, I been buying Knipex. In fact I just ordered a plier this morning - using points + free shipping for $25+ it does not get any better. I am not even sure where I can buy Knipex locally, but tbh I never search for it. Being able to order from my computer, and a few days later it arrives on my porch :thumbup:

It is my 6th Knipex - thank you Sears and members here

I loaded up on a lot of sales items in 17 but now I got to stay off of sears.com. I'm buying some land and that's gonna take all my spare money for a while. It was great while it lasted.

GearWrench flex head ratcheting wrenches: 39.99 for each 7pc set (Standard and Metric) in store.

Last day for the $50 off deal too, by the way - however the in store price isn't the same as the website, so not sure how you'd take advantage of both.

You don't. That's part of the way they've been playing with pricing during these recent points-back deals. I hear they're doing the same kind of thing in the clothing department now too:
