Yeah there was a red 20V Professional line offered for a short time. I have the full lineup. I think the tools disappeared 7-8 years ago and the batteries and chargers about 3-5 years ago. I haven't seen any of it in a Sears store in a long time!

There is also the extended bolton battery that is also red. It is not branded craftsman however.

Is this the drill you are referring to?

That's the drill of the Professional lineup I was talking about. Not sure if that's what EOC_Jason saw in store, but that's the only line of 20v that wore the Professional branding. I bought into it around 2008 just before they introduced the lithium batteries in the C3 line, which then led to it's early discontinuation.

And to keep this post on topic, here's a decent deal on a Keter-made Craftsman cantilever hand box, usually $19.99 or more. http://www.sears.com/craftsman-18-in-cantilever-tool-box/p-00921111000P

EOC saw the Craftsman 20v Bolt-On batteries, also the same as Black & Decker Matrix system that uses the same 20v batteries. It was the last 'new' power tool line to come to Sears. You bought a base drill, that you could swap out heads for. It really wasn't that bad of a system, especially with the ability get B&D batteries. It got clearanced out a year+ back, but my HomeTown store has TONS of accessories left.

It's interesting that you know what somebody else saw. :dunno:

I was at the Mt. Pleasant store over the summer and bought some C3 multi-tools there. I do love the hometown stores for their NOS - just wish I had a few a little closer to me!

You are correct, I really can't, but I have seen that battery in 3 different Sears over the last few months (Musk, Big Rapids, & Greenville?) & would be branded Craftsman. It's the only 20v system they have sold that I have ever seen. That Pro Drill pic is the first I've seen that (looks like a toy honestly).

Have you been to the one in Big Rapids?, probably not if you were traveling to the MP one. They seem to have a decent selection still. I'll use my regular points on stuff that will never be listed on Sears, like in the screw-bin aisle & such. I also got some nice German made drill bits there too for cheap.

The Bolt-On is much more likely to be found in stores, but I wouldn't be surprised to see one of those Professional batteries in a Hometown store either.

I can't recall if I've been to the Big Rapids store. I'm actually up that way frequently in the summers, so I've likely been there. I try to hit them up in my travels, much to my wife's dismay. I've been to nearly every full-line store in Michigan, and quite a few of the hometown/hardware/outlet ones also.

You just might have been to more Sears stores than anyone who's not a Sears regional manager! :)

I've seen a several of the 20v professional batteries (and chargers) in various hometowns.

I stand corrected. I don't remember ever seeing the professional line. Shopped there 8 years, seriously the last 6. Does anyone know who made those tools for Sears? Just curious

The Pro 20v power tools were discontinued in 2011, so you probably just didn't have any NOS hanging around at your stores.

Here's everything I could find about which recent-ish Craftsman power tool lines were made by which manufacturers:

Craftsman C3 19.2v = TTI
(Techtronic Industries), nearly identical to some Ryobi designs

Craftsman Professional 20v = Chervon (not Chevron as some threads have misspelled) (Nanjing Chervon Industry Co., Ltd.), a Chinese company which also makes/made some Kobalt power tools and corded Craftsman power tools

Craftsman Bolt-On 20v = SBD (Stanley Black & Decker), nearly identical to the B&D Matrix line (and the accessory heads are interchangeable)

Craftsman Nextec 12v = Chervon, similar to their Menards Masterforce 12v line

Also, some Craftsman corded routers and rotary tools were made by Bosch.

From what people have been saying, the latest C3 stuff is made by Chervon which would kind of explain the noticeable difference in body style. I could be wrong though.

Next time I take my 5 hour trip down south I plan on stopping by several HomeTown stores along the way. I never really though about it before but since they are just minutes off the highway I figure why not? lol...

stopped by my local hometown Sears last night....they still had the Made in USA rubber hoses. Picked up 5 of them for gifts this spring.....also picked up some Torx drivers, "Craftsman Professional" that look ok...made in USA too. They were loose drivers, in a box...$1.88 each, and 10% off that. Seemed like a good addition to the toolbox...

Is it just me or are the Sears links all landing on the home page?

7avalon7's link just opened fine for me, so either the problem is already fixed or it's intermittent or it's not affecting all visitors. :dunno:

If you have any spares, I have a few I bought as extras in hopes of trading for a full set.

I went over to the store to look at the hoses. They only have the new China hoses.

In addition to having brass fittings, instead of nickel plated brass fittings, the new China hoses are round, not octagonal in shape. They also seemed very thin and flimsy. I have a 100 foot USA at home that is heavy. I picked up the 100 foot China version, and it seems very light.

The China hose doesn't seem to be the same quality as the USA hose. Cheaper fittings, thinner and flimsier rubber, and round instead of octagonal.

It's sad, another great USA Craftsman product has been "cheapened up" and sent to China.

Is that the red and black handle? I think last time I saw them was early last year when they were being cleared out at the local store for $3. I bought a few, but I should have bought all size to complete the set.

You got a very good price on those.

Have the new version, definitely an improvement - better materials, quality, and specifications, as well as "look and feel".

Are you two really talking about the same product? :lol_hitti

It would appear so, I just evaluated objectively while the other poster expressed a subjective personal opinion. The other poster looked at the item in the store and may have an anti-China bias based on the (mistaken) belief that the old hose is "made in US" and the new hose is "made in China" (they are actually both made in China, the ones labeled made in US are exploiting a loophole in the law, like nearly all "made in US" products). My comments were based on ownership and use for a few months, so arguably more realistic.

Some of the comments are odd - for example, it's not clear why a round hose would be considered "cheaper" than an octagonal hose, so it's hard hard to evaluate the opinion without more information.

FWIW, I prefer the round hose since it will kink less readily and is more durable than an octagonal hose. The material in the new hose is thinner but stronger, so more durable as well. The "nickel coating" on the old hoses doesn't hold up well, the "brass" on the new hoses is more durable and doesn't tarnish like the old.

The extra 10% off tools ordered online will be ending today (unless they decide to extend it at the last minute).

I decided to finally order the red rafter square we discussed a couple days ago, and the Breaker Wrench (kinda like a bigger basin wrench without the head turning perpendicular) - which is $39.99 MSRP, often on sale for $19.99, and I haven't seen it below the current $17.99 (10% off $19.99). Has a bunch of positive reviews, except one person who got one with a defective lock button.

Also scheduled to end today, not a great deal unless you were already in need of some anyway, but here it is just in case:

Online Only! 10% off workwear, uniforms, and DieHard work boots when you spend $10 on tools.
items sold by Sears. Excludes Clearance, Hot Buy, Smart Buy, and Every Day Great Price items. Also excludes workshoes and workboots [presumably except DieHard-branded ones, lol], Dewalt and NewAge Storage brand items. For 10% discount to apply in cart, member must have at least $10 of Tool items sold by Sears in the same cart with Workwear items sold by Sears

I ordered the breaker wrench as I had some points to use up and looks like it will be useful.
I have some of the jack stands that I have to pick up anyway.

I wonder if this is going to affect pricing on the hometown store website?

http://www.searshometownstores.com/ is off in its own little world compared to Sears.com. I see no reason to shop through there other than to check exact inventory numbers at a particular Hometown store (and then go back to Sears.com to actually order). That wrench I just bought, on sale for $19.99 (as it had been for months) minus the additional 10% discount this week = $17.99? On the SHTS site, it's currently on sale for $26.99. Additional promotions do not apply. And on Sears.com, free shipping is $25+, and had been $35+ until a few months ago; while on SHTS, free shipping requires a $49+ order.

If they changed it to instant points back they might actually get a few takers.
Who wants to wait 30 days for 10% plus the risk of never getting the card?

Because there are a small amount of discontinued items that do not exist on Sears.com, and on the SHTS site they slowly do get clearanced down in price. ;) But yes, in general the Sears.com site is cheaper and can do all the other promos with the regular stock items.

Exactly... and you know Sears will make it exactly 30 days before you get that money. Much easier to use the Freecash promo's and not have to worry... Plus most of the big sales don't last for that long so by the time you get your points prices will have gone back up.

And it would need to be automatic when that option is selected, not requiring you to manually email all your info to someone (probably in India). It's like a mail-in rebate right now - no way of knowing if they'll reject your submission for some mistake you may or may not have made, until it's too late. I suspect the lack of automation is the reason for the "up to 30 days", too - they're allowing time for the manual processing people to fall behind at busier times. I can't imagine they get very many people taking that option, though... maybe it's few enough that there's just one guy processing all of them.

Sears is reportedly giving out $x off $x (e.g. $6 off $6) bounceback coupons/offers AGAIN on a random portion of in-store purchases this weekend. They now print out without barcodes, and will automatically appear in the recipient's account when they become active (starts the following Monday, which in this case is March 5, and are good for 1 week).

Looks like they raised prices on the C3 tools by about $10 depending...

So you buy a ~$100 tool you get $30 back in points... So I guess you still come out ahead $20 if you are going to buy something else later...
