Sears is reportedly giving out $x off $x (e.g. $6 off $6) bounceback coupons/offers AGAIN on a random portion of in-store purchases this weekend. They now print out without barcodes, and will automatically appear in the recipient's account when they become active (starts the following Monday, which in this case is March 5, and are good for 1 week).

When I receive something like that without a barcode, it typically turns out to be surprise points.

It would appear so, I just evaluated objectively while the other poster expressed a subjective personal opinion. The other poster looked at the item in the store and may have an anti-China bias based on the (mistaken) belief that the old hose is "made in US" and the new hose is "made in China" (they are actually both made in China, the ones labeled made in US are exploiting a loophole in the law, like nearly all "made in US" products).
If Sears deceived us when using "Made in USA" for the old hose, then they are an untrustworthy retailer. :(
Should GJ shut down this thread and ban all their deals?

The FTC Act gives the Commission the power to bring law enforcement actions against false or misleading claims that a product is of U.S. origin. Traditionally, the Commission has required that a product advertised as Made in USA be "all or virtually all" made in the U.S.

"All or virtually all" means that all significant parts and processing that go into the product must be of U.S. origin. That is, the product should contain no — or negligible — foreign content.

My comments were based on ownership and use for a few months, so arguably more realistic.

So everyone else here only recently started seeing the new hoses in the stores, but you've already owned one for a few months?

From the product webpage: "Added on February 16, 2018"

Some of the comments are odd - for example, it's not clear why a round hose would be considered "cheaper" than an octagonal hose, so it's hard hard to evaluate the opinion without more information.

FWIW, I prefer the round hose since it will kink less readily and is more durable than an octagonal hose. The material in the new hose is thinner but stronger, so more durable as well.
A water hose manufacturer claims that the hexagonal shape reduces kinking. :dunno:

http://www.dramm.com/html/main.isx?sub=434&presssearch=57

The "nickel coating" on the old hoses doesn't hold up well, the "brass" on the new hoses is more durable and doesn't tarnish like the old.
I could not find an article specifically for water hoses, but the general consensus online is that nickel-plated brass is more corrosion resistant than plain brass. :headscrat

The USA hose is probably molded in the USA from raw rubber that comes from overseas. That's why it says global components...

The hose will kink, but it's nowhere near like any vinyl hose (even those that claim to be kink free). Usually it's because of too many twists in the hose and it gets pinched around a corner. I remember having to drag that thing always to our pool to fill it up. Even going over the concrete for decades it still didn't look worn or abused.

In the end though... It's a hose... If you want the china one, buy the china one... If you want the USA one, buy the USA one... Sheesh...

Yes, that's why I put offer/'coupon' that time instead of just calling it a coupon, but the point is it seems to be the new way of doing the bounceback 'whatevers'. ;) Saves you money without requiring a much larger purchase amount, only gets applied to your account by doing an in-store purchase on/near a weekend, and isn't immediately usable. Sears keeps making it ever increasingly confusing to even talk about their programs, much less actually use them. :p

Did it again, not for sure why.

This is the item he purchased:

Craftsman 12-Inch Stainless Steel Combination Square $12.99

The link opens fine for me, FWIW. :dunno: That ship date 81 days in the future isn't so fine though :spit: - that might be the furthest-out I've seen yet. We're almost into June!

Link is bad for me too.

This happened before, then it cleared up, now it is back.

Yeah, there were several people having problems opening any Sears links one day last week. If anyone needs to place an order while experiencing that problem, you could try going through shopyourway.com instead (that site has its own shopping cart function, that's able to order any Sears or Kmart products, with all the same offers in effect). I normally just go through Sears.com, but it's good to know as a backup plan.

Not sure if related with the problem with the link above, but I think something is wrong with Sears page. In the past two days, I open random product page, leave it open for a few min, then it crash for no reason. I am using Chrome and Firefox. Never have this problem before.

I don't know what is up with the Sears website they have a TON of code as I can hear my CPU fan speed increase and my browser will slow down when I go to sears.com website... and it's ONLY sears website too that does it. Leave it to them to over-complicate something so simple...

Yes, their webpages (sears, kmart, and shopyourway) have all been massively bloated since at least last year. They usually don't crash on me on their own, but if I leave one (or worse, many) open for more than a few hours, I sometimes have to kill it myself because it grew to a gargantuan size that ate up all my RAM. And sometimes when browsing a category, the tab I've only been doing that in (opening products of interest in new tabs) will stop loading subsequent page numbers of the product list properly, just turn white in that area and refuse to do anything until I copy the address of where I left off into a brand-new tab (the "duplicate tab" command will just make another non-working copy). I don't know how they screwed it up so bad, but it's definitely another of the many ways they've driven away customers. If I wasn't so determined to get free stuff, I sure wouldn't keep fighting to use such a frustrating website.

Oh yeah and browse too fast and it will pop up that "I'm not a robot" check... Screwing up all your Sears tabs...

Yeah, those are super-lame. The worst part is, when you submit the captcha, they don't redirect you to the specific page you had been trying to load, just dump you at the homepage instead. Thought you'd found something you wanted to buy? Haha, think again!

Whenever I'm searching for something to buy on Sears site I use inprivate browsing. They can't tell who you are so you don't get blocked. Then once I find what I want I switch to the normal browser and buy it. I am using IE though. Surprised it screws up the other browsers too.

All browsers have a mode like that - Private Window in Firefox, Incognito in Chrome. Might be worth a try when needing to do a lot of Sears browsing. :)

+1. I think that is the only reason most if not all of us keep coming back to Sears.

I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but I *think* the Craftsman Soft-Face hammer is made by Proto.

http://www.sears.com/craftsman-soft-face-hammer-with-4-tips/p-00938388000P#

Proto's:

http://www.protoindustrial.com/en/i..._Proto®-Soft-Face-Hammer---Medium-Hard-Tips/#

Most of the Craftsman hammers are made by Vaughan, including the wood-handled rubber mallets with replaceable tips. That one may well be one of the exceptions made by someone else. (Like the small number made by Nupla.) I don't see anything like it on Vaughan's site, and that Proto one does look very similar. :) I already had the wood-handled soft-face hammers when I saw one of these in person, so I decided to pass on it, but I might have to reconsider if it's Proto!

Protos deadblows are made by Nupla, as are Williams and Craftsman.

They're great deadblows.

Looked on the Nupla website, they have a couple models:

http://www.nuplacorp.com/products/quick-change-hammers/

http://www.nuplacorp.com/products/cushion-blow-hammers/

Style looks similar too but there is more reinforcement around the handle / head area... Dunno... Either way they are USA and if you use points you can't go wrong... ;)

Got mine when it was $12.99, but that was back when they were still stocked in-store.

Looks like some stores have partially restocked the Craftsman Power Drive hammers (also Nupla).

FYI: It does not hide your IP address.

Or do you mean you don't encounter captcha's (those photos you identify to prove you're a human)? I've tried using Chrome's Incognito mode, but the captcha's on Sears.com still get in my way.

+1. Do I really need one? Nope. Do I want one? Absolutely

Thank you for the info!

Security software that can block adware helps to speed up the Sears/Kmart sites.

I still get captcha regardless the browser or what I do. I am guessing that they monitor how many times you do a search. After so many times, that captcha appears because they are thinking you are a bot who is doing some manual price check on their website (or whatever Sears thinks you are doing wrong).

Nupla is the OEM. It's the same hammer as the "SK hammer deal" that was posted from Amazon. I also have an old Armstrong model that is slightly different, but clearly the same OEM.

Aha, Nupla being behind it makes more sense since they provide a few other Craftsman hammers too. :)

Thanks. I had some shopyourway points and freecash to burn. Got the hammer for $4.63 after burning free points.

I already have the Vaughan Craftsman Wood Handled version. Don't really need the Nupla and/or Proto version, but heck, for less than 5 bucks I'll take another quality USA hammer. This 4 tip Nupla version seems like it has a couple of softer tips, where the 2 tip Craftsman Vaughan Wood Handled only has a medium and hard tip.

I haven't had the captcha come up while in private mode in IE. Once it comes up if I'm browsing normally it just shows the captcha statement and a submit button. No pic comes up and once I get that I can't do anything on Sears site until the next day it seems like. If I switch to inprivate mode I can go right back in and keep searching the site. It probably has to do with not being logged in to Sears more than anything with the IP address. IDK..?

I think the captcha is triggered based on how many pages you browse and its stored via cookie info. I've had it happen both regular and "private" browsing. Usually if it happens when I'm browsing regularly I'll either switch to the private browsing mode so it doesn't use my existing cookie info or I'll just close all my browser windows to sears and come back like 30 minutes later.

I've had that hammer with the 4 tips for a while, but still haven't used it yet. I need to move it onto the rack with my other hammers, right now it's in the package hanging by itself so I don't think about it when I need it. I usually just make do with my rubber mallet or brass beater...
