Nearest two stores have the same USA punch & chisel set remaining, so I've been waiting for a big price drop before posting it here. Guess it fell through the Sears cracks.
The only USA set available at the latest 5 or so Sears I've checked is the 6 PC one for $25.99. The 16 is the one I'm trying to get myself but you are right $50 is too much USA or no.

That's interesting. It was showing only the base points past the $100 amount for me... Ah, good old Sears website, such a cluster F...

--------------

I have no idea how they came up with that amount of points for timoboy, but at least their screwy math went in someone's favor this time, instead of screwing up in their usual not-in-the-customer's-favor direction. ;)

Looks like it's related to SYW MAX and in-store pickup.

4% bonus + 1% base = 5%
$4.24 + $1.06 = $5.30

:lol_hitti Another stupid mistake, when I was looking at the 3/4" socket set posted here recently, I noticed on several of the related-product listings for 3/4" sockets being sold individually, their product titles and brand data say "CARFTSMAN" instead of "Craftsman". :wtf:
http://www.sears.com/tools/b-102000...d&sbf=Brand,Brand&sbv=CARFTSMAN&searsTab=true
They didn't make that mistake on any other tools, just half a dozen 3/4" sockets. :dunno:

At least during Christmas time, Kmart had a sporting good section for 'blow dart' equipment. I don't think I've seen that for sale anywhere.

Semi-related, but as I've run out of tools I want/need, my Sears still has a sporting good section & I have been buying up the 1lb propane tanks (for Mr Buddy heaters), darts, grilling accessories, & might pick up a pool stick if the offers stack up right. Only place I've ever seen pool sticks for sale is at a spa & pools (& pool) places, not that I have really looked.

Also USA made but slightly extended pickup time in store:

--Item 30568, 3 pc mallet set w/ replacement tips - all USA made
--Item 47060, 2.5" hose pinch tool - USA made

Very nice!

I do not know they have a larger hose pinch plier. Mine is smaller and made in Taiwan (I think... definitely not US made). Thanks for sharing @cagef15. I may have to get this if the price and points is aligned.

There is a 12 piece for $30. Not sure if US set or not.

I was just on the Sears site and put some stuff in my cart. Tools are still showing 50% back in points, but it is only giving 1% in points. Anyone else getting this?

The retaining ring set sure is nice. I have the one (I guess middle size) one and it works great. I forgot who originally makes them, you can buy them pretty cheap on eBay if you don't care that it's not CMan branded.

The 3-pc mallet set also looks super nice, I'm saving that one on my wishlist and will grab later when I have more points to burn....

Also USA made but slightly extended pickup time in store:

Yes, I got that set in December for $28, good stuff. Made by Vaughan.

It's a set of a 12oz plastic tip hammer w spare tips, 24oz rubber tip hammer w spare tips, & 16oz rubber mallet - http://www.sears.com/craftsman-3-pc-mallet-set-w-free-replacement-tips/p-00930568000P
(It's the only way to get the spare tips through Sears anymore, which is why I went with the set vs buying the individual hammers in it.)

Has anyone use this spring compressor? Any comments on quality? A reviewer say made in Taiwan.

One of those thing that I would rather pay someone to do this. This contraption kinda scares me lmao. But with the current promo, and it is $30 (regular price $55). Not to mention it is a lot less hassle to be able to do this at home.

Unless you live near a store that still has some in stock locally, I hope you don't have an urgent need to do that work, because it's telling me it won't arrive until mid-June, 2.5 months from now!

The small number of reviews on the Sears page are positive. There's no additional reviews to be had on Amazon for the Craftsman version, but I did find this very-similar-looking product with several hundred positive reviews if you want more encouragement/information about using it: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000CMDPLM/?tag=atomicindus08-20

I just picked up this tool. It's the exact same as the performance tool version rented at O'Reilly / AutoZone etc. I've rented that one many times, abused the **** out of it, and returned. No issues. Presumably after many other people have done the same. I would trust it completely and in one use it pays for itself.

I got it because free with points and tired of renting it $60 deposit each time with 2 trips to the store.

Now for easiest use, I use it in tandem with a fork style side acme screw spring compressor that came from eBay/china red box no name but works great. Use the Craftsman ones as additional support for the spring on the side that the forks don't cover to make it easy on the ACME thread on both tools.

If you want no stress protection against incident do that or buy two sets of the Craftsman. 3 of the compressors spaced strategically around the spring and tightened equally seems to be the winning combination.

Thanx, I was wondering about that. I had a set I got from maybe JC Whitney in the past. They had a propensity to walk around and both end up on the same side. Then Hilarity ensues...

Those spring compressors are dangerous and difficult to use. They tend to slide down the coil to the other side.

Yes I did. I bought a shop vac this morning. I am getting $43 back in points. I didn't realize it was a 1 purchase deal.

Pickup or delivery? Did you know Corey is planning on selling the HomeTown store?

I'm probably going to the HT store tomorrow to pick up a few things I bought if this deluge ever stops... lol..

It will be pick up. It's supposed to be in next week.
He has been talking about selling it for awhile. He asked me once if I wanted to buy it, with Lowes selling Craftsman starting next week and Ace getting ready to open in Pea Ridge, I think it's going to be tough for Corey.

Probably not what you want to hear, and YMMV, but IMO, Quick struts or Ready struts are the way to go.
Way i look at you get new mounts, and coils, along with the shock part.
Quick to install, got to figure the springs and mounts have wear on them, when it's time to change the shock part.
J.M.O, YMMV,

My issue there is you are using a collection of low cost likely Chinese sourced parts to make up the strut assembly. You can't control the standards each individual part is held to.

Are the springs set to the OEM spring rate and metal tempered properly? What standard is the strut bearing and mount? Etc.

I've found doing enough struts and having to go "back in there" the best combo for strut replacement is KYB USA made struts, reuse original spring if not rusted, OEM strut mounts, OEM strut bearings, and OEM rubber coil seats. Yes this is likely 3x the cost of quick struts, but nothing is going to be below factory spec standards. Some brands such as my Toyota the mounts and bearings cost more than the struts themselves. But being Japanese quality rubber/metal parts means they will last another decade. YMMV of course.

To that end I've used this style/brand compressor with no issues. Yes you have to be aware of the rate of tightening on each side to clear the mount, and to prevent slipping. But it is totally doable. And if you have 2 sets on there at once stress is very minimal and nothing moves. A standard length 1/2 ratchet should be able to turn the ACME rod.

Between the Craftsman situation and the Sears-might-not-even-exist-next-year situation, I certainly understand Sears franchisees wanting to sell but I think they're very unlikely to find anyone wanting to buy at this point. They may all need to resign themselves to 'going down with the ship', hopefully becoming another name of hardware store when the time comes. Maybe join one of the co-op groups, Ace / True Value / Do It Best.

Someone on SD reports, "In store at Kmart today [Tue 3/27] with my purchase I got a promo card coupon $7 off $7 for 4/8-4/22". Guess they're not even waiting for a weekend this time, lol. It's usually happening at Sears stores at the same time as Kmarts. Note that is a longer-than-usual lead time before the coupon/offer activates.

I never use quick struts or ready struts - will do my research when the time come. This is one of those I like to have, but do not need it now, so I am fine waiting 2.5 month ahead. Gotta buy it before Sears close :D

Our cars has been Toyota or Lexus, and I really like the OEM parts since it last for a while, so probably will stick with that route. I have used Bilstein in our SUV with good results too.

Good to know that standard length 1/2 ratchet should be able to turn it. I have electric impact that I usually use to break lug nuts, but do not have air tools.

EDIT: Dang... I messed up. I just realize I bought two of the same pliers. One is part of 3 pc set that I bought a while back, but won't be ready to pick up until May 7. The other one is an individual pair, currently otw being shipped here. LMAO.

This is what happen when you ordered too many things.

I was watching TV last night, and I think I was in the twilight zone!

I saw a commercial for Sears HomeTown Stores!!! That's the first Sears commercial I've seen in YEARS... Trying to promote they are independently owned and all that...

Anyone know if Home town format stores can place actual orders directly from Sears/Craftsman HQ?

I know Sears themselves will tell you to go online or use an in store computer to attempt to order on the Sears website, they have no formal way to request specific tools anymore.

Basically I checked up on the hose pliers and snap ring sets listed above. Sears still has 19 snap ring sets and bunch of the hose pliers in their warehouse. The catch is due to their current system, they will only let you order them for pickup, and only at stores within 100 miles of this warehouse. Even though it is their main one in Hoffman Estates.

I was thinking the only way to get this stuff out to me in the west coast, would be to see if a hometown store would be willing to try to special order for me from main warehouse? Or hope the website glitches and let's me do a pickup in store far away eventually.

Most of you guys know the hometown format better than me, so maybe you have a way to get them to do this?

Feel free to check this out, put in a generic Chicago zip, and all of a sudden a good amount of hard to get stuff becomes available for order as ship to store. The stuff clearly exists they just don't want to spend money shipping it far away.

This is one of the biggest frustrations of Hometown owners: People assuming Sears Hometown is the same as regular Sears.

Sears Hometown separated from Sears Holdings a few years ago, and have been moving towards their own website, their own software systems, and most importantly their own vendor contracts.

You can go to your hometown store and talk to the owner and see... Some things they can do, some things they can't... Just depends on what the computer says when they punch it in.

Also while Hometown stores don't ship, you can contact one directly if they have an item and offer to pay for shipping, but realize they have to box it up and take it to a UPS/FedEx place themselves...

Oh yeah, forgot to rant... Now that that $10 back on in-vehicle pickup has passed...

Just TODAY they now put "Your Store Pickup order is eligible for free In-Vehicle Pickup" on my orders page! I wonder if my HomeTown store owner knows about that. I don't think he has any handhelds or anything to scan a smartphone?

Sears Hometown separated from Sears Holdings a few years ago, and have been moving towards their own website, their own software systems, and most importantly their own vendor contracts.

I know it's not "the same as regular Sears", but didn't know Hometown was already that well-positioned to retain the branding and function without the rest of Sears in the future. Say goodbye to the 'hot deal' sales (from what I've seen of the Hometown website pricing) and the SYW points deals at that point, though.

The several hundred remaining Radio Shack franchisees seem to be in a somewhat similar situation but without as much of their own infrastructure, reliant on corporate warehouses and sourcing to continue even as the corporate stores are almost gone. They are also having a hard time convincing anyone to join as new franchise owners at this point (I read that just 1 new franchise store has opened since the corporate bankruptcy, and it's a 2nd location of an existing franchisee). Another similarity is that the franchises had previously only been allowed to open in small towns, but as the corporate stores fade away, they're loosening that requirement in the hopes that someone will want to replace some of the corporate store locations. I suppose both RS and Sears Hometown could eventually rebuild enough respect/awareness for the brand in a franchise-only model to start bringing in new franchisees again in the future.

3/4 Drive sockets

I bought a set 2-3 years ago and they were USA made for metric. I dont think sears ever made metric 3/4 drive in China. Looks like they are clearing them out.
36 mm
http://www.sears.com/craftsman-36-m...SellerId=Sears&prdNo=1&blockNo=1&blockType=G1

38 mm
http://www.sears.com/craftsman-38-m...SellerId=Sears&prdNo=2&blockNo=2&blockType=G2

several other sizes for those interested.
It is funny that just the metric singles are all on huge discounts now, but unfortunately I found a review on one of them saying that as of fall 2016, they did in fact switch the metric 3/4" to Chinese production as well. http://www.sears.com/craftsman-30-mm-easy-to-read-socket-12/p-00947937000P?rrec=true FWIW, that reviewer seems to feel the quality is still similar but thought they should've lowered the price.

Hmmm, now that I just ordered a bunch of 3/4" drive sockets, I wonder if I have a 1/2 to 3/4 adapter...

Did I do that backwards?

I went to pickup my stuff at my HomeTown store, I got the only 3/4"-drive socket set they had in stock. He told me he can't get anymore of them as Sears is discontinuing it! Some guy came in the other day with a 3/4"-drive ratchet (nice V-series too, he stripped out the teeth though) and he could not get a rebuild (obviously) or even a replacement ratchet for him.

I saw they still have 3/4"-drive you can order for shipping, so now would be the time before they are gone for good. Too bad they are china but they seem pretty solid.

Yeah, the hometown stores have contracts with KDC (as do most suppliers). Even though the stores are independently owned, corporate controls their inventory. I was asking him about the promo codes how they never work on the hometown site, and he said they should but nobody seems to be able to get them to work. I think it's just a miscommunication as when you read the fine print it only mentions "Sears" and not hometown/hardware/appliance/outlet...

The Hometown prices do fluctuate up & down a little during sales, but again all that is controlled by corporate, just as the in-store prices are. There's never any killer deals like the sears.com site. Also one annoyance is the inability to filter based on your store's stock. It lists all items and only once you go to the product page will it say if it's available or not.

EDIT - Forgot to add... When you buy online & pick-up in store (at least for the HomeTown), they get credit for full price. So even if it's an online-only deal, you use points & coupons and such, the owners still come out okay on the deal. If you buy in store and use a coupon / points and stuff, then that eats into (or basically probably kills) their commission...

I don't think the Sears.com site will go away even if all the stores disappear... It can still linger on as an online-only presence for quite some time, at least as long as the CEO keep collecting his paycheck...
