They actually got a brand-new production run of Nextec stuff just last month, according to the reviews, after having been out of stock since last year. Sears has somehow managed to revive several vendor relationships / product lines recently, as unlikely as it seems at this point in their life.

Sears seems to have a knack for pulling NOS stock out of thin air, so how do you tell whether it's from a brand-new production run?

I'll have to check for a year on the boxes for those Nextec multi-tools I mentioned a week ago.

With a widespread nationwide restock after months of no availability, it's the most likely explanation. They don't just suddenly find that many. We've discussed several other such products in the last few weeks that are new production coming back into stores after months away, some of which have changed country/design in the new stock.

If that's true, then I hope they restock their more popular Nextec power tools that have been OOS for a long time (right-angle impact driver, auto-hammer, the drill/driver with higher torque).

didn't know Nextec line has such a good reputation. They do seem to be priced competitively, at least a few years ago when it came out.

I don't recall them ever going out of stock online of the Nextec Drill and Impact Drivers. I haven't seen the right angle impact or the circular saw in ages. The batteries with the LEDs seem to have vanished.

I've been thinking lately that maybe now is the time to start using points towards DeWalt 20v platform tools on Sears.com before they go under.

They did just get a butload of money for selling the Cman name, so you would think they could pay some of their vendors to place some new orders for stuff.

Batteries do lose some life just sitting around for years, but you can probably still get several years out of even an old-but-unused lithium ion battery. For years, I was using cell phones so long out of production that even the Chinese knockoff battery manufacturers had stopped bothering to make new batteries of that design, but I was still able to get quite a bit of use out of the dregs that had been sitting in a warehouse for 5 years or more.

Yep, arrival date far in the future when ordered online, and then a full on-the-shelves restock showing up around the same time instead of just the one ship-to-store one for you, that's the same pattern I saw with the new production run of the red speed squares recently.

One recommendation that I would have is pull the battery out of the cardboard box and really look it over in the store. I have almost bought some that were clearly used and returned.

It is a shame some of the former products in the Nextec family were discontinued, especially the right-angle impact. I don't expect to see those come back (just restocks of the ones that weren't discontinued), but who knows, Sears is full of surprises!

It's truly amazing how long they've lasted, but spinning off Craftsman, don't see they can survive this for long..

I have the Craftsman Nextec 12.0 Volt Right Angle Impact Driver and 12V Multi-Tool with Quick Release and have never had an issue with either. Purchased both items about three years ago and been dependable. Batteries are still good too! They come in handy for a hard to reach area to either drill or make a cut.

I always saw the Nextec line and scoffed at them. When OSH put them on clearance at 75% off I decided to give them a try. I've been really impressed with all of them. The drill/driver, right angle impact, sander, multitool, and even the auto hammer have all been very good.

Yes I notice some knipex are on sale. For me it was down to Nextec impact driver or Knipex 5" plier wrench (not on sale ). I end up getting the plier wrench. Both are great imo, but plier wrench may end up getting used more often. I have 10" plier wrench and love it, but sometime it is too long, so that is where the 5" will come in.

I am going to keep an eye out for the right angle driver. I think this would be more useful for me to work on car.

A few of what I think are the most popular Knipex items are coming up as unavailable for shipping (end nippers, some but not all of the pliers wrenches, etc), and thus can't be ordered at all right now, but most are still shippable.

I ordered one of these last year and my wife uses it as a "lap desk" for reading books so I ordered another one for myself when I use my IPAD..... very handy and well made. A little too small to lay on but very useful as a kneeling pad.

I think the black handle is USA and red handle is Taiwan, but they have different model numbers. Hard to remember right now, but might have been a third version as well.

Yep, what you see is what you get, no way I've ever heard of to convince it to ship to store when it doesn't want to for whatever reason.

There are a couple things to be aware of with the kiosk... It will apply the free shipping discount as a special coupon, negating some other coupons/offers you might've planned on using. And I've heard it can be surprisingly difficult to fully sign out of your account on it when you're done - you might need to use the sign out button multiple times, close/reopen the browser, or even restart the whole computer (might need to unplug the power cable to do that). Don't leave till you definitely see that it is really signed out.

Personally if an item isn't in stock locally and can't be shipped to store, I just wait until I can order it in a $25+ order (so much easier than $35+) instead of dealing with the kiosk.

Oh no! I noticed the new 10% off sale last night from a bunch of tools having suddenly dropped in price on my wish list. However, there was no information on the homepage (it was still showing only the previous sales events going on).

I also thought it was odd that the 10% off applied to a lot of tools that were still on sale already for a good price, since often times they'll reduce good sales before adding the 10% off to the site. For example, the 16pc 3/4" drive ratchet and socket was now $112.50, and the 48pc impact socket set was $90, which is lower than I've ever seen for either.

I tried to use the chat to get a price protection refund, but the chat widget was malfunctioning and wouldn't work. I eventually figured oh well, I'll do it in the morning, maybe it'll be fixed by then. Dumb move, as the prices have now increased.

I don't think they intended for the new sale to apply before the old sales ended, so it seems like there was at least a 15-30 minute window last night where that happened. I probably should have stuck with it, but it was late, and at the time I figured it was just a really good sale that I'd hear a lot about in this thread today. Oh well, lesson learned.
