------------

I tried to use the chat to get a price protection refund, but the chat widget was malfunctioning and wouldn't work. I eventually figured oh well, I'll do it in the morning, maybe it'll be fixed by then. Dumb move, as the prices have now increased.

I don't think they intended for the new sale to apply before the old sales ended, so it seems like there was at least a 15-30 minute window last night where that happened. I probably should have stuck with it, but it was late, and at the time I figured it was just a really good sale that I'd hear a lot about in this thread today. Oh well, lesson learned.
------------

FYI, the chat isn't available during the hour that sales can overlap.

"We want to make sure you get the help you need. Please chat with us about an existing order or new order, please select the appropriate chat link. We are here from 6am CST to 11pm CST seven days a week."

I think they really call it a day at 10:30 PM CST.

Managed to grab the nextec impact for about $12 OOP, between the sale and 10%. Almost forgot to order, grabbed it at 11:40CST.

First order in a long time I have spent OOP (probably two months).

If anyone finds these tool boxes at their Sears store, can you check on the COO? Thanks.
(may have to look on the cardboard box)

Website says they're in-stock, but the store tool dept associate could not find any in-stock. Don't know how you can get your inventory count incorrect with such large items. :wtf:

Craftsman 26" Wide 5-Drawer Standard-Duty Top Chest

Craftsman 26" Wide 2-Drawer Standard-Duty Middle Chest

Craftsman 26 in. Wide 4-Drawer Standard Duty Ball-Bearing Rolling Tool Cabinet

The Stanley version has a USA badge in the picture and the boxes look identical to me.

Yes, he's trying to figure out if the newly-listed-2-weeks-ago version Sears is selling is US-made too despite not showing the badge in the photo, or if they're really making identical-looking things in 2 different countries right now. :)

Relevant: SBD bought Waterloo last year, which was making some of the Craftsman toolboxes even before SBD bought Craftsman.

Just got a text from Sears saying the 10% tax-day sale is good in-store today too. But I'd bet it works like the 10% family & friends sale does in-store, being applied as an automatic coupon at the register that will interfere with using other offers/coupons, while online it is an actual sale price reduction that doesn't interfere.

Hmm.. The C3 jigsaw I ordered (and waiting to arrive) dropped $6.50, time to chat!

EDIT - Oh wow, I'm in queue... 2min wait, #6... Never had that happen before! Guess not many work on Sunday?

I'm thinking about ordering one of these this weekend... looks pretty useful. It's like a foam kneeling pad on steroids - unfolds to different configurations for sitting, kneeling, or laying on (or standing on). I didn't even know Sears carried this (online only, ship to home or store) until I found it by tediously browsing everything on sale. The reviews are almost universally positive. (Sears only has one review, but there's a bunch more reviews at Amazon.)

Pro Lift Foldable Mat - 6 Fold

$29.99 regularly, $28.99 long-term sale price

I'm glad I didn't get around to placing my order for the foldable mat on Saturday since it's now an additional 10% off as part of the 4/15-4/16 "tax day" sale. I'll be ordering it today for $26.09 (all covered with points/offers)!

Not sure how its all going to unfold but I ordered the Knipex 16" pliers wrench and Grip-on 12" Wing clamp last week and they came to $150.20. I had a $20 off $150 freecash offer plus my points so got them both for $93 out the door. Just chatted and got $14 back in points even though the lower prices would have put my total below $150 and cutting out the freecash offer..? The person I chatted with mentioned that I used freecash but did not say anything about reversing that. Maybe that's why they said they would add points to my account instead of refunding the card. Anyway, now I'm up to $29 in points again, time to shop soon!

I wanted to ask that, about getting points/$$ back in a purchase that had a minimjm spend, but then wouldnt qualify if a PM was involved. Guess they don't look that close. Thanks, and congrats on the savings

Someone commented recently about noticing the silly "leasing" option showing up in the shopping cart even for some items below the $199 price threshold to "lease" it.

I noticed when completing an order tonight for an item that had triggered that "leasing" box to appear despite being a much lower price, the order confirmation page mistakenly says "1 item Your leased item shipping" above that section instead of just "1 item shipping". Thought this bug was worth mentioning here before someone who is actually ordering a >$199 item gets concerned that they might have accidentally selected the lease option.

Thanks Ineed! That’s my closest Sears store; about 20 minutes away. It is a full sized Sears store and I didn’t know any Outlet stuff was sold there. This was listed as refurbished and “Good” condition. I’ll report back after I pick it up.
For 12 bucks I hope you get it!

Outlet stores can yield some real gems for cheap if you have one near you. I've seen some nice older USA wrench & socket sets that were long discontinued for stupid cheap.

Not available for me but thought might be available for other member here. imo pretty good deal.

Craftsman 3 pc. Cold Chisel Set $12. Chisels are 12" long and come in 5/8", 3/4" and 7/8" sizes. Not sure if it is US made.

Someone should confirm if these are USA, as shipping is listed as unavailable so possibly they are just clearing them out and not going Chinese. Only store I know that used to have USA as of a few months back is 100 miles away or I would check.

The disconnected list posted here a few months ago said these are Western Forge, to be replaced by Chinese in May.

My local store has some in-stock and had points to burn, so I placed an online order for pickup. I'll try to get by there this afternoon and let you guys know.

I've had this same concern in the past. As far as I can tell from talking with support reps the several times I didn't get awarded the points I had earned, it seems like on their end, they have a clear delineation between "out of pocket" (i.e. what was charged to your credit card) versus points spent on an order, which is what they look at when assessing how many points you were supposed to earn from an order.

Furthermore, it seems like when an order is split (like when one item is shipped or picked up right away, but another item from that order is still proccessing), the "out of pocket" amount and points spent both get split across the actual deliveries. I think this has been the main culprit causing issues with earned points for me.

For example, when they had the $10 in points back for every $30 spent, my $65 order got split into one delivery that contained $40 worth of tools, and one delivery containing $25 worth of tools, causing me to only get $10 back in points instead of $20. When I called, they initially kept saying I only got $10 back because only $40 was charged to the card, and I had to point out to them that $40 was only for one of the deliveries in the order (this was after both deliveries had arrived).

Now, at least for me, whenever they've given a price protection refund, it's usually in the form of FREECASH points, rather than a refund to the card. Because of this, I think the old orders remain unchanged in their system other than having a note added that the customer has been given additional points for the order and for what reasons and amounts. The actual amount charged remains unchanged, which I believe is what the points-spent and points-earned eligibility is actually based on. I recognize that FREECASH points aren't as good as a refund to the card when it comes to price protection, but it seems like a fair enough trade-off to avoid retro-actively affecting the past eligibility of points earned and spent in some opaque manner.

In other words, it seems like things are calculated in this order:

Code:
1. Sub-total =>
  2. eligible coupons =>
    3. sub-total less applied coupons =>
      4. eligible free shipping =>
        5. eligible points to spend (including FREECASH and SURPRISE points) =>
          6. final sub-total, less applied coupons and points spent =>
            7a. points earned =>
            7b. total charge to credit card (final sub-total plus tax and shipping)

I might have 3 and 4 in the wrong order, as I can't remember if coupons affect free shipping eligibility.

When I've gotten price protection refunds in the past, it's usually in the form of new FREECASH points awarded, which means it hasn't actually affected the amount of "3. sub-total less applied coupons", which means it also hasn't affected eligible points spent (5), points earned (7a), or charge to credit card (7b):

Code:
1. Sub-total =>
  2. eligible coupons =>
    3. sub-total less applied coupons =>
      4. eligible free shipping =>
        5. eligible points to spend (including FREECASH and SURPRISE points) =>
          6. final sub-total, less applied coupons and points spent =>
            7a. points earned
            7b. total charge to credit card (final sub-total plus tax and shipping) =>
              8. refund as new FREECASH points

And the thing that seems to repeatedly confound their back-end systems when calculating "7a. points earned" is when "6. final sub-total, less applied coupons and points spent" gets split up between separate deliveries/pick-ups.

All of the above could be completely wrong, this is just the result of trying to connect the dots to make sense of the different experiences and interactions I've had with Sears.

I'm not sure what "the disconnected list" is, but if these are still Western Forge at this point, I'm kinda surprised. The WF red-white-and-blue screwdrivers got replaced by Chinese copies in holiday season 2017, after being out of stock for months since WF got in a dispute with Sears in summer 2017, IIRC.

The 3-pack of cold chisels and a bunch of individual chisels appear to be widely available at corporate stores in my area (2 nearby stores, and others further out than I'd go). If they are still US, and soon to be replaced with Chinese, I might get the 3-pack once I rebuild more points.

I'm not sure if that's all correct, but you've clearly put a lot of thought into it, and maybe it'll help someone sort things out. Sears is a convoluted mess to shop with, that's for sure. :thumbup:

I've been keeping an eye on this set for the possibility of shipping or ship-to-store options, but it's still showing only available at a store 90 miles away.

I'm betting the remaining stock out there is made in USA.

Though, I peeked at a shipment that arrived at a store, and spotted some new made in China punches. If we see this 3pc chisel set come back in stock, then it will be best to visit the store to examine the COO.
