Just a heads up, a lot of the reviews mention the grip handle coming off

I have a set of the GW adjustable wrenches. They are not top tier adjustable wrenches as the adjustment is sloppy, loose like a cheap adjustable wrench. Handles have not fallen off yet but they work okay and the finish is shiny chrome.

Thanks for that feedback.

Given that, I'm going to pass on the GW adjustable. I have so many adjustables already, and they are all top quality USA adjustables from Craftsman, Crescent, and Martin. Don't need any sloppy ones. I actually threw out a bunch of sloppy Chinese adjustables to make room for my good stuff.

Used two $10 free points during lunch time (two accounts), and got Extreme Grip 3/8" Drive Ratchet for $2.99 (store has no problem matching on-line price), and three pairs of pants for the kids for $2.6. There are some remaining points in each account so OOP is zero. Love Sears!

By the way, in clothing department there were long lines waiting for check out. Hope this store will not close so soon.

My local store (Wilmington, NC) that is closing soon will not match any prices, all sales are final, and all of their remaining inventory is only 10% off retail prices, which is more than online prices in almost all cases.

They are also not doing pickups for online orders anymore, so now I have to spend $35 to get free shipping.

I used the $10 freecash in-store only offer to get a magnetic bowl for free...

Seems like it is in a conflicting status. If it is still under Sears control, which it sounds like as you used points, returns would be allowed but may have to do it at another location (unlikely). Why they wouldn't match a price doesn't make sense. It's moving product out, and at Sears pricing. Once the liquidators takeover thats when They should stop operating like Sears.

The large list of mostly-Kmart closures expected last week still hasn't come out, but a few new Sears closings have trickled out.

http://www.businessinsider.com/sears-closing-9-stores-list-2018-4 (posted 4/16)

" The list of stores that Sears is closing this year continues to grow.

The company is terminating the leases on nine stores in California, Nevada, Iowa, and Illinois, according to government filings and Sears employees who spoke to Business Insider.

The stores will close in July and liquidation sales will begin on April 27 at most stores, employees said. All nine stores are owned by Seritage Growth Properties
...
Here's the list of closing Sears stores so far:
Sunrise Mall, 5900 Sunrise Blvd., Citrus Heights, CA 95610
Westfield Galleria at Roseville, 1191 Galleria Blvd., Roseville, CA 95678
Solano Town Center, 1420 Travis Blvd., Fairfield, CA 94533
Parkway Plaza, 575 Fletcher Pkwy, El Cajon, CA 92020
Meadowood Mall, 5400 Meadowood Mall Cir., Reno, NV 89502
Lindale Mall, 4600 1st Ave NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402
Marketplace at Six Corners, 4730 W Irving Park Rd., Chicago, IL 60641

Business Insider reported this week that the following Sears and Kmart locations would also close:
Sears at 3500 Oleander Dr, Wilmington, NC 28403
Sears at 7401 Market St, Youngstown, OH 44512
Kmart at 1602 W Brandon Blvd, Brandon, FL 33511
Kmart at 180 Main St, Saugus, MA 01906 "

[Update 4/19: The Asheville, NC Sears should be on this list too. Same liquidation timeframe.]

[Update 4/20: And now 2 more Sears: Wyoming Valley Mall in Wilkes Barre, PA; and Warrenton, VA.]

This April 27-mid-July liquidation list is still leaking out one by one. :(

Two new additions:
Wilkes Barre, PA - http://wnep.com/2018/04/19/sears-store-auto-center-at-wyoming-valley-mall-to-close/
Warrenton, VA - http://www.fauquiernow.com/index.ph...sears-in-warrenton-closing-in-mid-july-4-2018

I've used both regular points and surprise points at liquidations.

I received a couple of the 3/4" drive metric sockets so far, and one of them happened to be a NOS made-in-USA version.

Firstly let me say that I'm satisfied enough with the made-in-China 3/4" ratchet/socket set for $125, especially for what little use they'll probably get relative to other tools. While I would have definitely paid more for a higher quality made-in-USA version, I don' think I would have paid the regular price of $250 even for that. So, I'm not complaining here, as I still think they're a great value at half price.

But wow, when you look at the made-in-China socket side by side with the made-in-USA socket, it's night and day in terms of quality and finish. No idea if there is any difference in actual strength or durability, I guess only time will tell. But here are some pictures of the two next to each other.

If anyone is in the market for one of these things anyway, you can get a bunch of points back, but it will be spread over the next 6 months...

Craftsman LMRM1602 16" Reel Push Lawn Mower with Bag
http://www.sears.com/craftsman-16inch-reel-mower-with-bag/p-07130377000P
= pay ~$110 now, supposedly get a total of ~$120 back in points spread over the next 6 months
"Members get 10% CASHBACK in Points on ANY Line Trimmer or Mower purchase at Sears. Point valid for 7 days. Select stores and online.
+ Members get 100% CASHBACK in points total over six installments with purchase of qualifying items. 16.5% in points" per month, May through October.

Also participating in the 6-installment points-back thing, but without the 10% bonus:

Garden Oasis Harrison 7 pc. Glass-Top Dining Set - Blue
http://www.sears.com/garden-oasis-harrison-7-piece-dining-set/p-07153183000P
$600 regularly, $350 sale, + $70 shipping to home (store pickup not available, at least in my area)
= pay ~$420 total now, get a total of $350 back in points spread over the next 6 months
"Members get 100% CASHBACK in points total over six installments with purchase of qualifying items. 16.5% in points" per month, May through October.

There was also one of their not-so-great-anymore Kenmore grills participating, but it sold out earlier today. These seem to be the only 3 items currently doing this type of deal.

Thanks, just updated my post. What's weird is when I first posted, the images were showing. Then I refreshed the page and the images all stopped working.

I guess the first time you looked, they were still temporarily in your browser cache from when you uploaded them.

They all show up for me now in your post. :)

I have one of those Gearwrench adjustables. Like stated previously it's a decent tool but not top of the line. If I had a Sears near me I would be getting one.

Thanks for sharing! That is very interesting.

Dumb question/observation here. I wonder why is the 19mm socket longer vs 20mm socket? Shouldn't it be the other way around? Or is 19mm supposed to be deep socket?

19 is china, 20 is USA. different forging dies. apples v. oranges.

It is surprising that they didn't at least aim for the same heights. Makes the Chinese sockets even less attractive to anyone trying to complete a set they started during US production.

They made the Chinese punches/chisels/alignment tools the exact same size as the US versions, so I know they could've done it for the sockets too if they had wanted to.

I'm guessing to save time and costs they prob just went with an item that a Chinese company was already producing, and slapped the CM label on it!

My thought on the subject is this. We have become such a price driven economy that prioritizes cost wayyyy ahead of quality. Companies have been shoving cheap throw away **** down our throats and we have no problem coming back for seconds in 5 years when the cheap **** breaks.

When they realized the margins on USA made tools wasn't in line with their goals, they started importing. Keep the same price but cut costs in half. They will ride the craftsman name and reputation out until the cheap **** catches up with them, and then run it into the ground.

The total number of Sears/Kmart stores in now-Seritage-owned buildings known to be scheduled for a April 27-mid-July liquidation has now reached two dozen, after a lot of reporters' research to get that put together since there has still been no official list release. That was my guess... I would bet if you looked around at other chinese brands you would find a size / style match. It takes time and a LOT of money to make those dies. Just one more way for Sears to cheap out...

I'm not a big fan of that textured stuff they used to put inside the sockets. It wears off quite easily. But yeah the overall feel and quality is quite noticeable in USA vs China.

There used to be a factory near here that made a lot of CMan stuff, and I've talked to quite a few people that used to work there. They had such pride and knowledge in what they made. I will sit there for at least an hour listening to their stories. They all loved what they did and strived to make the best product possible.

One guy was telling me they would go buy SO tools, and use those as a comparison when testing their own for breaking strength. It had to meet or beat the SO for it to pass.

Many have held on to some rare / odd things from over the years. It's neat to see prototypes that never made to full production. They won't ever sell them but it's neat to see. Wish I would remember to take pictures.

Well, there will be an estate sale eventually. ;)

If you ever get pics and more details, do share in the garage sale thread or something. :)

That is a weird set of the screwdrivers... Only real long & stubbies...

I have the 14pc set... Right now the price is way too high on it though. I honestly have never used the stubbies and only rarely the long ones.

http://www.sears.com/craftsman-extr...SellerId=Sears&prdNo=3&blockNo=3&blockType=G3

For general use, I think the best set would be the 6pc of regular length:

http://www.sears.com/craftsman-6-pi...SellerId=Sears&prdNo=6&blockNo=6&blockType=G6

But again the price is kind of high for those unless you have points / coupons to burn.

Yeah, they have a bunch of different variety packs of those screwdrivers. I haven't taken the time to sort through them all to figure out how many different drivers there really are and which packs don't overlap. I'm guessing the "Only real long & stubbies" 10pc set would contain all-different items than the "6pc of regular length" set you recommend, but some of the mixed sets get more confusing.

Sears Holdings finally announced today or yesterday that this is the complete official list of new closings, for now.

But there are probably a lot more Kmart closings coming soon.

"Sears Holdings has signed a contract with Optoro to prepare for inventory liquidation at Kmart locations in New York, Pennsylvania, and New England. Optoro specializes in reselling pallets of clothing, dry goods/groceries, and general merchandise collected from stores that are scheduled to close or will be closed soon. ... Sears Holdings would not comment about exactly how many retail locations in the northeast it was preparing to close as a result of the contract."

And remember the free shipping minimum going back up to $35 a few days ago? Well, that's not all...

"Sears Holdings also disclosed it materially modified its shipping policies in a way that may be harmful to future business. In addition to raising shipping rates, the company is increasing the minimum free shipping amount for certain customers. Analysts predicted the change will place further pressure on online sales at both Sears and Kmart's online stores."

"Sears Holdings has announced that effective May 1, 2018, free shipping will no longer apply on these product categories, regardless of the order amount:
Air Conditioners, Compact Refrigerators, Ice Chest, Chest Freezers, Incline Trainers, Arcade Games, Game Room Bundles, Game Tables, Game Tables/Bowling & Shuffleboard Tables, Pub Tables & Chairs, Trampolines & Inflatables, Elliptical Trainers, Exercise Cycle Bundles, Exercise Cycle Bundles, Indoor Bikes, Recumbent Cycles, Upright Cycles, Inversion Tables, Rowers, Steppers, Body Weights, Dumbbells, Home Gyms & Stations, Kettlebells, Weight Bars & Collars, Weight Benches, Weight Plates, Weight Racks, Treadmill Bundles, Treadmills, Pilates Machines, Screen Houses & Canopies, Backboards & Rims, Bike Racks & Storage, Bike Trailers & Carriers, Bikes, Wheeled Sports, Fencing, Tractor Attachments, Home Improvement, Easels & Art Desks, Grills, Outdoor and Patio Furniture, Outdoor Playsets & Accessories, Trampolines, Inflatables, Bouncers, Kitchen & Housekeeping Playsets, Big Wheels, Pedal Vehicles, Powered Vehicles, Wagons & Push & Pull Toys, Pool Accessories, Pool Cleaning & Maintenance, Swimming Pools, Food & Grocery, and Pet Supplies."

The list reorganized:

  • Home Improvement, Fencing, Tractor Attachments, Grills,
  • Appliances: Air Conditioners, Compact Refrigerators, Ice Chest, Chest Freezers,
  • Game room: Arcade Games, Game Room Bundles, Game Tables, Game Tables/Bowling & Shuffleboard Tables,
  • Furniture: Pub Tables & Chairs, Screen Houses & Canopies, Outdoor and Patio Furniture,
  • Exercise machines: Incline Trainers, Elliptical Trainers, Exercise Cycle Bundles, Exercise Cycle Bundles, Indoor Bikes, Recumbent Cycles, Upright Cycles, Inversion Tables, Rowers, Steppers, Treadmill Bundles, Treadmills, Pilates Machines,
  • Exercise weights: Body Weights, Dumbbells, Home Gyms & Stations, Kettlebells, Weight Bars & Collars, Weight Benches, Weight Plates, Weight Racks,
  • Cycling: Bike Racks & Storage, Bike Trailers & Carriers, Bikes, Wheeled Sports,
  • Outdoor play: Backboards & Rims, Outdoor Playsets & Accessories, Trampolines, Inflatables, Bouncers, Big Wheels, Pedal Vehicles, Powered Vehicles, Wagons & Push & Pull Toys,
  • Indoor play: Easels & Art Desks, Kitchen & Housekeeping Playsets,
  • Swimming pool supplies: Pool Accessories, Pool Cleaning & Maintenance, Swimming Pools,
  • Household supplies: Food & Grocery, and Pet Supplies.

The biggest question is how they will delineate "Home Improvement" for this purpose. The main category page on the website for it is http://www.sears.com/home-improvement/b-1270629454 . There it contains some things that are clearly subcategories of "Home Improvement" (which corporate Sears hasn't sold much of online, from what I've seen; these sections tend to be mostly third-party-seller items), but also cross-links to some things that are primarily considered subcategories of "Tools" which we hope won't be included (garage organization, plumbing tools, etc). These appear to be the only true "Home Improvement" subcategories, hopefully the only ones that will be affected:

They probably noticed they were bleeding money trying to ship large items for free...

Only a matter of time before Lowes figures out the free shipping for MyLowes members isn't too smart either... lol.

So, I received the folding mat I ordered last weekend... the mat looks great... except the 'velcro strap' provided for holding it closed is not so great, might try to find/make a better strap for it at some point. But the funny thing is, it was shipped to me (from a 'Sears Authorized Supplier', not a Sears store) in a box from "Platinum Max Hand Film", like warehouses use for wrapping stuff on pallets. :headscrat I wonder how they ship these when they haven't just finished off a box of plastic wrap.

****. there's goes my local pickup option. all the closer to me kmart and sears have all closed in the last year. nearest sears is now an hour away. there's one kmart that i know of maybe 20 minutes away but it has consistently never shown up as a ship to store or ship for local pickup destination for me. :(

and it will probably close in the next round. i'm honestly surprised it hasn't been already - i thought it would be the first to go.

glad i picked up 6 orders last night and spent my $10. the shelves were so empty, i bought another pair of those $5 LED flashlights. They've replaced all the freebie HF flashlights from a couple years ago... :lol_hitti

Guys how are you using your free cash? it says I have it but when i check out it never applies it.

Dave

You have to spend the right dollar amount, on the right items (tools and paint, or lawn and garden etc...) in the right format (online or in store or either) and if you have multiple offers that could be used on multiple purchases, Sears will use the least valuable one first, at least in my experience.

When you add something to your cart the amount they say you can redeem off the total should include freecash. In the pic below, I have $2.04 in points right now but I also have a $10 off any $20 purchase so when I add this cooler to my cart it says I can redeem $12.04

The total number of Sears/Kmart stores in now-Seritage-owned buildings known to be scheduled for a April 27-mid-July liquidation has now reached two dozen, after a lot of reporters' research to get that put together since there has still been no official list release. (This is the same closing stores list that had 9 stores on it when I first posted about it on Mon 4/16.)

Darn, one Sears and one Kmart within 30 mins of me. That leaves 2 Kmarts and 4 Sears within 30mins...howtf can I bleed them dry if they keep closing stores?! My goal to put the final nail in the coffin is still alive but it's getting bleaker.

I think you've still got quite a leg up on most of us there... there's only ever been 2 Sears near me (one close by, the next 30-45min away). :) And it's probably been at least 20 years since I've seen a Kmart.

Craftsman 8 Pc. XL Ratcheting Wrench Set SAE - $64.99

http://www.sears.com/craftsman-8pc-max-axess-wl-ratcheting-wrench-set/p-00910915000P

The price of SAE version continues to drift down a little. The metric set has been cheaper... but think the SAE version "not available" at that time.

I have the metric set... no complaints... used them to bust off some rusted caliper bolts. The extra length definitely helped.

They are a "Hot Buy" so coupons probably won't work... but Surprise FreeCash points should.
