If you all keep posting the awesome made-in-USA stuff you're still able to get, I'm un-subbing! Really envious of that chisel holder and especially the 3/4" drive sets.

Anyway, the 55 piece 1/2" drive impact socket set is almost half price, down to $130 from $250:

Challenge accepted haha. Most of this came from the last trip/week.

But yeah it does take a ton of leg work. Every vacation, trip, friend going somewhere I have them look for me. And on top of that I try to use points/get on sale. I missed all the actually good stuff in 2014/15/early 2016 so now I'm scrounging for scraps. It's brutal being a millennial and trying to put together a garage of USA tools in 2018 without spending a fortune. I'm not handing down china/harbor freight to my kids.

:eyecrazy: OMG I just looked on eBay... Yeah there are a few between $35 to $45... lol...

I remember one Christmas they were at my HomeTown store, he kept marking them down with a sharpie, I think they were down to like $12.99??? Anyhow, I played with them some and one the gymbal axis were super tight while the other one was super loose. I just wasn't impressed so I passed...

I guess I chose poorly... lol. :dunno:

Well I had points expiring tonight and couldn't really decide what to buy so I pulled the trigger on those metric 3/4" sockets that were still available for shipping...

19,20,22,28,36mm are still on sale and can be shipped, amazingly the total came out to $35.45, just enough for free shipping!

Used my points + some freecash bonus so ended up paying a little under $8 for them.

When checking out it gave me the option for economy shipping and I could get $1 in points once it shipped... I passed as I was wanting them sooner rather than later... lol.

OH... I also checked out TopCashBack and right now it's giving 10% cash back on Sears.com! Ends in 2 days... Last time I used it (I keep forgetting) was when I bought a C3 HD impact driver, they gave me the cash back at the full price before points. I had to lodge a claim but as of right now I have $12 from that pending. Free money is free money...

Wow you did great! The local hometown store do not even have one of those. And that gimbal ratchet is cool. Never seen that before, only in pictures.

Toolguyd just happened to use that same gimbal ratchet as the first example in this week's article http://toolguyd.com/which-tools-to-buy-when-several-brands-sells-the-same-thing/ , which points out that Husky and Gearwrench have nearly-identical products still available if you're interested. :)

defunct Craftsman 3pc set product page: http://www.sears.com/craftsman-3-piece-gimbal-palm-ratchet-set/p-00912624000P
(still available at some small number of Hometown stores - $60 original price, now down to $15 if you can find one: http://www.searshometownstores.com/product/Craftsman-24913-3Piece-Gimbal-Palm-Ratchet-Set )

Gearwrench versions of all 3 sold separately for $12 each: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HDSSJKU/?tag=atomicindus08-20

Husky versions (with more teeth) of all 3 sold separately for $20 each: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-3-8-in-drive-100-Position-Gimbal-Palm-Ratchet-H10038GRAT/206038561

Bought the 1/2 impact set in the case for $99 earlier this year. Just need those extension though since they were not part of it. That is a good deal since it has them for only $30 more.

Yeah, I got the same set. That set, which had gone on sale for $99 a few times and actually was on sale during the recent 10% off event briefly taking it down to $89, was a 48 piece set. This one is 55 pieces, so apparently there are 7 pieces in this set, including the extensions, that aren't in the other set. I think either set is a great deal when half off.

Edit: Looks like there are 7 extension pieces in the foreground including the wobbles, so that makes sense. Also, I could be mistaken, but I don't think this set comes with the plastic case, since it's not listed. Also, one time a Sears employee told me that the expanded tool sets rarely ever include the case of the smaller sets and instead just come packed together in a cardboard shipping box.

These are also lowest I've seen (metric set) $34.43

Craftsman 5-piece Full Polish Large Combination Wrench Set

I find that the answer from Sears is kinda weird, like they do not want to tell the COO. Might as well say made in earth :lol_hitti

Where are these wrenches made?
Hi there. Per our tool team, these are made in Asia. Thank you!

@Hexen - will check out that Husky gimbal ratchet. TY!

I like that answer much better than "made in USA", and they deliver a product made overseas.

Well, one of my local Hometown stores is too new to have a bunch of NOS USA tools. The other is much older, but they decided to get rid of their tool section a few years ago.

For anyone without a Hometown store option for getting USA tools, don't forget that full-size, corporate owned stores still have some USA selection. Though, the options are shrinking.

After the announcement in 2017 about SBD purchasing the Craftsman brand, I figured the Craftsman inventory at Sears may see significant changes. Here's a list of USA items I made with a quick walk-thru of the tool dept at two stores (I was skimming, not closely examining each and every item. So I may have missed some stuff):

- screwdrivers
- ratcheting screwdriver (one model)
- pliers
- wire strippers
- hammers
- adjustable wrenches
- pipe wrenches
- pry bars
- punches and chisels
- levels and squares
- plastic truck boxes
- socket holders
- various automotive tools
- various picks, scribers, mirrors, and magnets that are either USA or USA w/global components

Since Craftsman tools are supposed to be available at Lowe's stores soon, I did another walk-thru at the same two Sears stores recently. The red indicates the items are no longer USA, or discontinued.

- screwdrivers
- ratcheting screwdriver (one model)
- -pliers-
- wire strippers
- hammers
- adjustable wrenches
- pipe wrenches
- pry bars
- punches and chisels (a few NOS USA remains)
- levels and squares
- plastic truck boxes
- socket holders
- various automotive tools (a few NOS USA remains)
- various picks, scribers, mirrors, and magnets that are either USA or USA w/global components

Never in a million years would I have thought to sniff the handle of a screwdriver.

The red-white-and-blue Craftsman screwdrivers have an infamous smell issue, which often doesn't require getting anywhere near your nose with the handle to be noticeable. Some people don't notice or don't care, but it's an inherent issue with the material they're made out of, Cellulose Acetate Butyrate. Especially if kept in a hot environment, the smell tends to slowly get stronger over the years, and sometimes they visually degrade too, with a moldy-looking white gunk. The material is most widespread on Craftsman screwdrivers, but has been used by some other brands too, such as Xcelite.

Here's some of the pages talking about this:

https://www.popularmechanics.com/home/tools/how-to/a28534/plastic-screwdriver-handles-smell/

Personally I try to avoid CAB-handled tools because I'm not a fan of this issue. (And come to think of it, that's another point in favor of ordering that other chisel holder I found on Amazon, it's a different handle material. :) ) Edit: In one of those threads, I see comments that Craftsman now only uses Cellulose Acetate without the Butyrate component (which was the source of the smell), so the recent products should be 'safe' despite a similar appearance.

Yeah I just saw that too... Unfortunately I guess because they are hot buy's they don't qualify for the 50% back in points....

Something else I was looking at that is an online only price doesn't qualify either... :(

I also failed to get the 50% cashback in points to work on a tool. I'm leaning towards another website error, but this morning customer service would not admit to anything as usual. :dunno:

A question for you coupon experts.

This is about the 3/4 set above.

I put it in my shopping cart and get $10 freecash.

It is called a hot Buy

Can I walk in to the store and use the freecash at the cash register?

Can I use my $5 slow pickup coupon as well?

The item is listed as online only price. That means the price in store will not match the price that is listed on the website and they won't match it.

^^^ What he said...

Honestly, I would wait right now and see if they fix their 50% cashback in points thing... I bought my 3/4" set back when it was $124 I think, used my points + freecash bonus to bring it down to exactly $100 and got $50 back in points after I picked it up.

Actually, they've gotten a lot more willing to match "online only" prices in-store. I've done it several times in the last few months with no hassle, including just a few days ago. Just show the cashier the webpage for that product, either on a smartphone or on an in-store kiosk computer.

Generally any freecash surprise points offers in your account that apply to the product when you test putting it in your cart online will apply to the same product purchased in store, regardless of whether you price-match the website.

The exception is when a Friends & Family 10% sale is going on, because that is applied in-store as a coupon instead of a price change, and coupons prevent freecash surprise points offers offers from working.

Online-only promotions to get points back for use on future purchases will not be usable in-store.

The Craftsman multi-tool (Leatherman-style), locking folding knife, and hex key set, all available in about half a dozen matching colors, are ~$3-$7 apiece. And the buckets are $4.

I bought the folding utility knife a while back as a "filler item" when it was on sale. It turns out I like it a lot. Very nice knife, and compact when folded up.

Awesome, thanks for the heads up. Was just able to get price protection on both of these, along with the hydraulic stool.

Also, a bunch of things in my wish list just dropped:

Craftsman 4 oz. General Purpose Cutting Fluid - marked down from $4.99 to $2.72

Craftsman 6-Piece Bolt-Out Set - from $39.99 to $22.22

Craftsman 7" Rafter Angle Aluminum Square 39601 - from $6.99 to $4.39

Komelon 25ft x 1in Chrome Pro Tape Measure - from $9.99 to $5.82

Craftsman CM 24-IN COMPACT BOLT CUTTER - from $39.99 to $21.95

Craftsman 16" Variable Speed Scroll Saw - from $131.99 to $88.37 (hot buy)

Edit: Fixed links. Sorry about that, I just copy/passed the URLs, didn't notice the website forum messed with my links after I pasted them.

These stools look pretty nice.

Craftsman Blue Adjustable Hydraulic Seat
http://www.sears.com/craftsman-hydraulic-seat-blue/p-00952828000P
$100 regularly, $50 sale on blue (seldom below $70), $46 sale on black (on sale for ~$50 more often than blue)
It is a 'hot buy' sale, so you can't use coupons, but freecash surprise points offers should apply if you have one for a suitable amount.

The black one (admittedly, not as good-looking as the blue, IMO) isn't listed as a 'Hot Buy' so maybe the common $10 off $40 coupon might work.

http://www.sears.com/craftsman-black-adjustable-hydraulic-seat/p-00949860000P

... and would mean it would just qualify for free shipping, too.

The total number of Sears/Kmart stores in now-Seritage-owned buildings known to be scheduled for a April 27-mid-July liquidation has now (4/21) reached two dozen, after a lot of reporters' research to get that put together since there has still been no official list release. (This is the same closing stores list that had 9 stores on it when I first posted about it on Mon 4/16.)

There's now another planned closure announced, the Sears in Chesterfield Mall in Chesterfield (suburb of St. Louis), Missouri. It's not part of the April 27-July group, since its exact closure date is yet to be determined. Could still have several years, if Sears itself lasts that long.

Staenberg buys Sears at Chesterfield Mall in first step toward redeveloping the entire facility
By Brian Feldt
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
Apr 24, 2018

" Michael Staenberg’s real estate development firm says it has acquired the Sears department store attached to the Chesterfield Mall in what could be The Staenberg Group’s first foray into redeveloping the failing mall.

The Staenberg Group (TSG) will also make an offer to buy the rest of the 1.3 million-square-foot mall next month in hopes of redeveloping the facility into a massive mixed-use destination, said Tim Lowe, TSG’s vice president of leasing and development.
...
Officials with Sears did not return requests for comment.

Lowe said TSG envisions an open-air, high-end mixed-use project with residential, office, retail, restaurant, theater, health club and supermarket components. In all, the project would cost more than $100 million, he said.

The development would be similar to Santana Row, an upscale living and shopping district just south of San Francisco, Lowe said. “There’s nothing like it in St. Louis,” he said. “It’s the right real estate in the right market.”

Sears will continue to operate and lease the 170,000-square-foot Chesterfield store from TSG until it moves forward with a redevelopment plan or Sears closes on its own. A purchase price was not disclosed, though the property has an appraised value of $5.3 million, according to St. Louis County records.

Lowe said TSG has had discussions with Macy’s and Dillard’s — two other anchor tenants at Chesterfield Mall that own their respective properties — about similar deals.

C-III Capital Partners, which took control of the mall through foreclosure in mid-2017, put a majority of the mall up for sale in mid-March. No asking price was listed. Prospective buyers have been told to turn in their offers by May 2.

Lowe did not disclose a timeline for redevelopment and construction could still be years down the road. Chesterfield officials said they’d like to see a deal for the mall get done before the end of the year. Even if that were the case, developers would have to draft plans and gain necessary approvals before any dirt could be moved. “This is a complex project and it will take getting the right people together to create something that is probably a two- or three-year process,” Lowe said.
...
Sears, meanwhile, has started selling off much of its real estate under sale-leaseback agreements. And earlier this month, the retailer said it would auction off its stores attached to Mid Rivers Mall and South County Center. Lowe said TSG will “take a look” at those properties, too. CBL Properties, which owns Mid Rivers and South County malls, is also thought to be a likely bidder and has acquired seven Sears locations over the last two years, said CEO Stephen Lebovitz.
