So we got another $5 off $10 today on email. Any thoughts what is good to buy? What I really need now is a brass hammer, which Sears do not have. Got to go to Lowes or Home Depot tomorrow and pay OOP. I am so spoiled by Sears :lol_hitti

Have a good one

Apparently Sears used to carry a Nupla brass hammer, but they did away with it years ago. :(

Brass hammers are all online-only items at both Lowe's and Home Depot. At which point you can order from any other place online instead and probably get a better price and avoid tax.

Harbor Freight is the only place most people could come home with a brass hammer immediately these days. It's a good item, Pittsburgh Pro. 2lb. $20 after 20% coupon, and you can actually get an additional 5% off this week, see the HF coupon thread.
https://www.harborfreight.com/2-lb-hickory-handle-brass-hammer-61873.html

Northern Tool also has a 16oz one in most of their stores for $17, https://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_48410_48410

NAPA may or may not have some locally (they're listed online, but all just say "call store for availability").

As for things to use $5 off $10 on, I got an Irwin Groovelock pliers for ~$11 last week that's still on sale, and there are two other models for ~$14. There's also the Sidewinder tape measures I posted about on Sunday, $11 and $13 or $15. And folding nut drivers or hex key sets around $11.

Didn't get the weekly sweeps email the past 2 weeks (did the 2 prior to that). Any idea what determines whether u get the sweeps email or not?

Did you check your spam folder in your email? I would also check your account setting at SYW to make sure it has not change for some reason.

Thanks @Hexen. You just saved me a trip to go to Lowes  Ah... too bad Sears do not carry that Nupla brass hammer anymore.

I think I may end up ordering online. Nothing wrong with HF or NAPA, but they are on the other side of town. By the time I drive there, wait in line, check-out, drive back, that probably take 1 hr or more. I do not have Northern Tool here.

I am on a roll this morning. Just placed an online order for 10 quarts of Mobil 1 oil at Walmart with free shipping. So convenient, save time and gas too!

OK. :) I'm curious what project you have in mind for the brass hammer.

Trying to repack wheel bearings in my Land Cruiser. Have some cone washers that are stuck, I have 4 lbs sledge but brass hammer is probably preferred when trying to beat them.

If you want to maximize the $30 cashback on $75 purchase in tools, check out the SAE and Metric ratcheting flex head wrenches at $75.99 ea + free shipping.

Always get the locking flex head, otherwise you're going to bust knuckles when it slips and flexes when you don't want it to.

Craftsman 7 pc. Inch Locking Flex Ratcheting Combination Wrench Set
$75.99 + $31.52 cashback in points
http://www.sears.com/craftsman-7-pc-standard-locking-flex-ratcheting-combination/p-00942400000P

Craftsman 7 pc. Metric Locking Flex Ratcheting Combination Wrench Set
$75.99 + $31.52 cashback in points

Since mine was just over the $75 threshold and I earned some bonus freecash loot, I added something else to my cart, then redeemed just enough points to remain at $75 after redemption to maximize the cashback and get some free stuff. Flexible tape measure seemed nice to have on hand.

Site appears messed up again. Tried to place an order and use points I have and it didn't apply any but took them off my account.

Oh great. :headscrat You might want to chat with customer service about getting this fixed, if it doesn't fix itself within a few hours.

After waiting 30min and it showing up on my pending credit card charges as the full amount I had to chad with customer service. They couldn't tell me why it wasn't working and also told me they had not heard off any other issues. They had to cancel my order and re-order it for me to make it work. Hopefully I get my $30.77 in cash points as well.

I picked up a second battery for my cordless impact since they were on sale for $69.99 and I had $32 and change in points to use. I had to add two of those cheap led magnetic pen lights to get me to $75 and get the $30.77. Hopefully using points didn't ruin that amount but either way seemed like a good deal.

Can the cashier’s discount clearance items further? Some of the clearance markdowns are ridiculous, I sometimes see destroyed tools boxes for way less than 50% off.

Unfortunately you won't be getting the extra points if you spent less than $75 out of pocket (OOP). You have to meet minimum spend requirements after all coupons, freecash surprise points offers, and regular points used.

I've heard it's possible to negotiate on appliances (clearance or not) with the appliance salespeople, but haven't heard of that happening in the rest of the store. Personally, in both tools and clothing, I've had something ring up for a higher price than marked and had the cashier insist on walking halfway across the department to verify what I saw before lowering the price to match the sign, so negotiation seems unlikely.

I agree that their pricing on damaged items and sets missing pieces is terribly lame.

Or even undamaged. Still have Gladiators storage products at close to full price. You would think that would be something they want to get rid of as they dropped the manufacturer (or they dropped them), and probably won't be able to sacrifice any of that new tool department layout floorspace for those cabinets.

The way my local Sears store looks, I'd guess the manager would love to have some of those Gladiator cabinets just to take up some space on floor with something other than stacks of plastic tool boxes. They don't eat anything so keeping them around is better than discounting them. And there's still a chance somebody will actually pay full price! They can always discount them later at the going out of business sale.

Well that is a bummer. Wouldn't have bought the extra lights when. Also the large impact battery is back to $99.99 but it is listed as giving $79.99 in points right now which is crazy.

Aha, they've started another round of the points-back-in-installments stuff, which applies to that item and other power tool batteries. This time it's 3 monthly installments, each good for 30 days, which isn't much risk.

Plus it seems to be stacking with the $30 back on $75+ OOP deal that's still running, where you get the points right away and they last for 30 days. So buying the $100 battery all OOP, you'd get ~$47 back to use in June, ~$17 to use in July, and ~$17 to use in August.

I just mentioned this in the Milwaukee Locking plier thread, but figured I would post it here too. For those who didn't go for the Milwaukee deal, as I did not. Also available for the points hustle. Problem being that you have to find it for local pick up, luckily I can.

Irwin Vise Grip 10 piece locking plier set, with tray. $86.99

Yeah, you were very lucky to have that set in stock locally. It's OOS within 100 miles of me, and same situation for the first person who posted about it in this thread a few weeks ago (they were debating whether to order it, until they realized that they couldn't).

With it stacking it is almost tempting to buy a 3rd battery as it would net out to $19+tax. Just not sure I really need 3 batteries.

Or maybe buy this one and return my other to get my $32 of points back from that purchase.

I think I'd return and rebuy if I were you - preferably in that order, to reduce the risk of confusion about which one is being returned and all that. Be careful to make sure your points spent on the returned purchase get fully restored, it sometimes requires chatting with customer service.

Anyone know how long the current promotions run? My battery has already shipped so can I just return it to the store for a refund or do I have to ship it back?

Last time I picked up an order, I saw a sign in my corporate store's pickup area saying you can do online returns there too. I think you have to initiate the process online somehow, for them to know to expect you, then show up at your store's pickup area with the item you're returning.

The current promotions - the battery one and the general $30 back on $75, up to twice per person - both end Sat Jun 2.

You can go straight to the counter if you want. They need the sales check & return code to do the return. You can even return at Hometown store, or at least at one time you could, if they carry the item (not going to take back clothes, etc).

edit: I wish I could find a use for these clamps. I've collected around a dozen, thinking they will be perfect for something, but still waiting on the something

Looks like the HI-Cap battery is $80 now. It give you $20 free points but if you use them is reduces the cash back from $70 to $30. I added a craftsman wire stripper ($17) and it took the cash back up to $60... I didnt pull the trigger though, just dont need an $80 battery. And theres not much else I want to buy with the $60 cash back...

I haven't had those $1.99 micro ratchet clamps available separately at my local stores like some people have, but I see that now they are available for online ordering with in-store pickup a week later in my area. Good to know for future filler use on online orders.

I have a few from multi-packs of clamps (2 just like that from the now-unavailable http://www.sears.com/craftsman-10-pc-clamp-hobby-set/p-00931593000P , and 2 larger similar ones from the still-available http://www.sears.com/great-neck-tools-14-pc-spring-clamp-set/p-00931360000P ). I didn't get mine until afterwards, but I think they would have helped when I was repairing a couple Christmas ornaments last December. I used a couple small HF bar clamps, which were hard to get in position with the appropriate tension before letting the tiny pieces I was trying to glue slip out of position. I tried to use a couple small spring clamps instead, but their design closes as much as it possibly can, which would always push the tiny pieces out of position. These seemed like, potentially, a good middle ground.

Sears released their quarterly financial update this morning, and the news is bad (no surprise there). They are expected to release an official list of 72 new closures this afternoon. I will post as soon as I see it. It is a relief that at least they are releasing a list this time instead of me having to dig them up one by one.

This is another reason that I didnt buy the battery. The cordless saw already sounds like it has a bad bearing. while it can be replaced, I figured when my current batteries go dead Ill be ready to buy a whole new kit.

My dad has a Ridgid kit and its far superior to mine. It has the lifetime warranty and he has used it.

Potentially up to 100. They aren't sure what they are going to do with the other 28 unprofitable stores. They are currently at approximately 899 stores left, though I'm not sure how you do that with a finite #.

Okay, the big closing list just came out! My local stores have both escaped, for now. The little symbols after the Sears locations have something to do with when their auto centers close, not important. Per this brief article about the DeWitt/Syracuse, New York Sears that's part of this list, I believe these are all in liquidation from tomorrow through Sep 2, or close to it.

It's only 63 total, so some of the 72 initially expected were left for another occasion. 15 Kmarts and 48 Sears.

  1. Kmart 910 North China Lake Blvd Ridgecrest CA
  2. Kmart 9881 W 58Th Avenue Arvada CO
  3. Kmart 5400 E Busch Blvd Tampa FL
