Maybe off topic, but not too far off. My local Sears is closing shop, surprised it lasted this long. Anyway, it seems bigger items are almost marked up!! There's a few pressure washers discounted to $322, online they are $270!! Guess I'll hold off a bit.

Anyway, my question to you guys is, if anyone has had a nearby store close, how long before the real deals pop up? Like 50-60%? As of now it's all 10%

A while. Prices go back to what Sears had them listed at regular price, so inflated. But with the news of the store closing, the store will be busier than it has been in years. The liquidators will slowly keep dropping prices, but usually any thing decent sells before it gets to a good price, though you can get lucky.

If there is something specific you are looking for, good chance it is cheaper on Sears, and you can still use points/offers. Just in case you get a dud, you also can still return.

Sears store liquidation sales usually run for about 6 weeks, IIRC. They aren't all run by the same liquidation company, so the discount schedule may vary. If it's not too inconvenient, I would suggest you try to drive by the store at least once a week to keep an eye on the percent off they've reached (it's usually on big signs visible from outside). I'd guess it won't get good till at least halfway through their sale.

And like 2manytools said, you can still use points/offers and coupons, as long as they're added to your SYW account. (If you plan on picking up a bunch of stuff, you probably at least have something like $10 off $100 available on your Sears.com coupons page to add to your account, though the good-ratio coupons are scarce lately.) Don't ask the cashiers about whether you're allowed to use that stuff, some will reflexively claim you can't, but I've seen many reports that the computer takes it all off automatically even during closings as long as you enter your account's phone number at checkout.

If you don't mind the "wobble-plus" type of feature on these:

Craftsman 4 pc. 3/8" Wobble Extension Bar Set $6.99

I think it was $6.** yesterday, and I thought I should get this but wanted to see if I will get Freecash $4 off $25 that usually come with the sweeps weekly email. I was thinking I could get this extension set plus something else and take advantage of that Freecash.

The price shot up to $25 today. I should know better and bought it yesterday :(

Oh well at least I am not needing them now. I have all kind of extension length, just do not have these wobble type. I will just wait for the next time they go on sale.

Yeah, I got those, I knew they were Taiwan...

I was more surprised that the Craftsman 3/8" Drive Stubby Flex Head Teardrop Ratchet was Taiwan, as was the Craftsman 3/8" Drive Quick Release Teardrop Ratchet with Long Handle...

Is Sears upping their quality, or is Taiwan able to under-bid China now?

Don't hold your breath... Foot traffic will increase with news of the store closing, people will buy things at higher-than-usual prices because as others have said they raise price to full retail, THEN give a discount... So it's usually higher than the website prices if you pay attention...

Usually when a store is closing too Sears will remove it from the list of stores available for pickup from the website.. just FYI... Once a store closing is announced they do not get any new inventory.

Do you have a Sears Hometown near you?

I was going to recommend another set if you are looking for wobbles, but looks like Sears took it off the site. I found it on Amazon, but no luck on Sears.com. here are the details on the contents on the craftsman website, which indicates it is no longer available. It was on the site a couple weeks ago, so maybe able to find it in a store. I never saw it above $30.

On store closings make sure to check the auto section first. When mine closed they cleared out everything in that department dirt cheap right away and I missed it. Never did find anything worth grabbing as they closed the store a week early.

HF also has a pretty nice wobble extension set, which includes some of all 3 drive sizes. https://www.harborfreight.com/9-pc-wobble-socket-extension-set-67971.html

Great tip. They always close the auto service department weeks before closing the attached stores, but I hadn't known they didn't leave the auto merchandise for the rest-of-the-store liquidation people to sell.

There are a few items that stay full price on Sears.com and rarely go on any kind of sale. Those are what I watched for and got for a decent price (30% off one, 40% off another) at a store closing.

By the time 50% discount hit the Sears near me, the shelves were pretty bare.

The price for the wobble set typically hovers around $7-$10.... They always jack the price up on items immediately after their F&F sales... It will drop back in another week or so...

Here's the Craftsman 24 pc. Reach & Access Add-On Set, available for shipping or store pickup (at least in my area). I believe I grabbed my set when it was at $24.99 base price. It has come in handy a few times with their length + extension + able to use a ratchet to break bolt free.

There is also this Craftsman 42 piece 1/4 and 3/8-inch Drive Bit and Torx Bit Socket Wrench Set for same price, while it has a lot more bits I don't really think it would be as useful because they are all very short (and not ball-ends) and you will probably run into more clearance issues than anything, but I could be wrong.

Craftsman FB page posted about a launch event in mid-August for 1,200 items...

...but then I noticed that Sears isn't listed for availability:

"The new CRAFTSMAN line will be in Lowes, Ace Hardware, Atwoods, Blain’s Farm and Fleet and Orchard Supply stores."

I was in town at the Sears closing and stuck my head in to see what was left. Little did I know it was their last day. Very little left, picked up a 32mm USA socket and a Honda air filter at 55% off. Pretty sad.

So sounds like anyone with a closing store nearby should buy what they want of what's left as soon as it hits 50% off, because it won't go much lower.

My local Sears closed a few months ago. I went several times during the closing "sale". In the last week they still had the open stock hand tools at 40% off. The toolboxes were either 50 or 60% off. Best deal I saw were the stainless steel workbench tops, which were maybe 80% off. I didn't have space, but remember thinking about it. For me, the best part of the sale was about a week in, when they had closed the auto center across the road, and all the battery chargers etc. from there were in the tools section at a decent discount. They also had an aisle of "miscellaneous", which looked to be all the things they found in the back of the warehouse, under shelves or wherever - old stock tools going back at least 20 years. They only had one or two of each item, and only 20% off, but not things you could just order off the website. Most of that stuff was gone in about a week.

Different tool areas and types are discounted at different rates during the liquidation.

I visited my Sears about once a week through the close. The final Friday, most items were 50%, mechanics tool sets were at 60% off, and woodworking tools and accessories were still only at 40%.

When most items were 40% the previous weekend, shelves were already mostly empty. All the wrench sets were gone at higher than online prices.

Most of what was left toward the end were singles - things like individual drill bits & sockets, and shoppers were even buying those to put together sets, thinking they were getting a deal.

Just my experience, at one store, so YMMV, but one of the salesman, who had worked 2 previous Sears closings, said this frenzy of people overpaying is typical.

Not quite hot deals and very YMMV but I'll post anyway.

USA V^ RP wrenches have been popping up like crazy at my local Sears in the open stock area. I don't think attributable to just moving of shelves, they definitely found a stash in the main warehouse as I saw they were unloading them from the main shipment.

You want to find a store that warranties lots of tools as they get more frequent shipments from the main warehouse. This store is about 2 miles from the border, people bring in piles of tools from south of the border cleaning out the open stock every other week so they get new stashes all the time. Sometimes USA stuff.

I quickly went home and got a bunch of my 2008 era pieces that had been suffering from bad chrome peel (factory defect) but I was unwilling to give up unless with other USA. Got a bunch swapped, including really hard to find (desirable) sizes like 10mm and 7/8 that I had all but given up on getting new USA replacements. Also got a few with points.

My local Ace hardware sometimes has USA stock, but never the common sizes, and I swapped all I could at the 6-7 stores near me that still had some USA stock.

I don't know what issue they had in 08-09 with RP chrome but I've had to warranty almost my entire 22pc set over the years. Of course they didn't start to peel until Chinese versions were the only commonly available stock.

Sears is getting new craftsman stuff. Specifically, I know they're getting/ have gotten the updated table saw.

Sooo.... I purchased a 3/4" ratchet with points on Friday... Got an email with the UPS tracking number Saturday saying it's ready to ship...

Today's Tuesday and the tracking still hasn't been updated... :(

I'm going to wait another day or so, then I might try calling that store first or just chat with customer service... Sears is really going downhill... The last 5 orders I've made they have managed to screw up 3 of them...

If you know what store it's supposed to be shipping from, I would recommend calling that store first to try to get your existing package moving. The chat people in India would probably only be able to either refund you or reorder it to hopefully ship from a different store, and I don't think it's reached that point just yet.

Seems they screwed up... I ordered on 7/20, and got a cancellation notice on 7/21...

They credited me the $2.97 to my credit card, but never refunded the $33.28 in points to my account... Chat person is telling me it can take 7-10 days and if I don't get my points by 8/3 to chat with them then... *rolleyes*

Who the F knows what going to happen with the masterpass deal... I might have to order something else with it before the 31st...

re: 7-10 days - I have had the same thing, and the points never show up, so I got to chat with them again. What a waste of time. I think they do this hoping that the customer would forget about their points, but not me

So now, if they said that, I insist to have my points returned now, and I will check my account while they are online with me. I have told them to check with their manager/supervisor if needed, but I have had enough of this BS to know that they can return the points and it show up immediately in my account. There is no reason it takes 7-10 days.

Got an email that this Ludell bar is now back in stock. I do not think I ever received any email telling me that an item is back in stock.

I'm going to be patient and see if another sale pops up, if so then I will chat and get the points ASAP. I saved the transcript and she gave me some ID # to use so they can re-order the cancelled item at the sale price I ordered the first time...

The ratchet is still available for shipping, and even store pickup... But store pickup is Aug 21st I think it said...

I ordered 3 of the 3/4" ratchets on Friday and they all showed up today....mine all come from Naperville, IL store, but most of my Sears stuff comes from the Naperville store as its about 120 miles from my house. I also never pay for upgraded shipping because the UPS schedule is such that almost all of my items only travel 1 day from when they shipped.

If you know what store it's supposed to be shipping from, I would recommend calling that store first to try to get your existing package moving. I live in Central IL and alot of Sears still thrive here, like 95% of my stuff comes from Sears stores within 100 miles, usually Naperville or Springfield.... where does most of your stuff come from? Just curious where other people's stuff come from around the country.

Got my 1/2" breaker bar, about $10.00,and my 2, 4 IN one wrenches.
(Seems like those 4 IN one's would be useful!)
All China, but all seem to be made petty nice.
Also got my 10 R straight jaw Vise grips. (Iwrin) Iwrin Vise grips are Taiwan, correct?
(nothing stamped on tool)
I have about a 20 + year old 1/2" breaker bar, USA Though, and it's served me well.
(Don't think it's ever "seen" a cheater pipe though)

From comments on Amazon, they may be a mixture of Taiwan and China. It probably says on the cardboard package.

I've gotten stuff from all over the place (on what few ship-to-home orders I do; most of mine are store pickup, which don't come from other stores normally). Some from elsewhere in the same state, some from around the country. My recent Knipex pliers order came from a store in Missouri the first time, that totally screwed up the packaging, and the replacement order came from a store in Illinois that was apparently better-trained/staffed/supplied.

Stuff for me comes from all over... Lately it seems more stuff from Little Rock (since it's the closest Sears) but also Texas... I've had things come from IL too...

I'm still ticked about the ratchet... If they don't have it in stock, why can't another store fulfill it instead of the idiots just cancelling it? Oh wait, this is Sears, what was I thinking?

I'm going to chat with them again tomorrow and get them to give me my points and re-order the ratchet at the sale price....

Down to the wire again on deciding on the combination of items for this order before an offer expired tonight, but I got it done:

Craftsman 6 pc. Folding Metric Nut Driver Set
http://www.sears.com/craftsman-6pc-folding-nut-driver-set-metric/p-00902238000P
$9.99 sale, $19.99 regularly
(Finally! I got the inch set 2 months ago for $10.99, later price-protected to $9.53, and have been waiting and waiting for the metric one to reach a similar price. If this price lasts into Wednesday, this is a price worth buying at if any of you want these. The inch set is at $9.99 too.)

Craftsman 5 Piece 72 Tooth Magnetic Bit Wrench Set
https://www.sears.com/craftsman-5-piece-72-tooth-magnetic-bit-wrench/p-00946157000P
$13.99 regularly
(Not on sale but decided to go ahead and get it to complete the 'set' with the other 3 angles of these I got recently, since this one seems to be only in limited stores now. No shipping to home looks like 'when they're gone, they're gone' status to me, but you never know.)

Craftsman Micro Ratchet Clamp
http://www.sears.com/craftsman-micro-ratchet-clamp/p-00931594000P
$1.64 sale, $1.99 regularly
(Nice useful filler item, not my first one of these.)

From all the items I bought in the last couple years, code "AF" seems to be Chinese made and "AG" is Taiwan if that helps. All my 84T ratchets are AG codes, and sockets and a raised panel ratchet is AF. I will say some of the newest items I have received are coded AG....and I have heard rumblings that some of the production has shifted to Taiwan....just my $.02

I wouldn't sweat the Chinese ratchet. USA lightly used are out there for pretty cheap. I got one of the $100 Chinese 3/4 sets during the last sale, just wasn't impressed by the socket and ratchet quality. Went on OfferUp and a few days later scored old 2006 USA set that looked to have never been used for $85 and ended up selling the Chinese set for $150 on eBay.
