Bring in unwanted clothing 7/30 to 8/12 to Sears for a 20% off clothing coupon.

s_JulyWk4_dzcm77955_Vertical_DonationsBanner_Apparel_v3-qm-op_sharpen-eq-1-amp-qlt-eq-100

("Not valid on Doorbusters, Everyday Great Price items, Best Member Deals, WOW items, Insane Deals, Deal Flash, Lands’ End® merchandise, Levi’s®, JanSport, Regatta ... work boots, work shoes ..." and a bunch of stuff that obviously isn't clothing. )

Then use the coupon on a $45+ OOP (after coupon/points & before tax) clothing order online, to combine with this:

"Members get $45 CASHBACK in points when you spend $45 or more on Clothes at Sears.com. Offer valid 7/29/18 through 8/11/18. Points issued in 3 equal installments of $15 each are only valid for 14 days of issuance. First installment of points credited to account 24 hours after transaction and valid for 14 days. Second Installment of points issued on 8/15/18 and valid for 14 days. 3rd installment of points issued on 8/29/18 and valid for 14 days. Maximum $45 in points per Member."

The Craftsman Reach and Access set
https://www.sears.com/craftsman-24pc-reach-and-access-add-on-set/p-A011456050
and Craftsman 42 piece Hex and Torx Bit set
https://www.sears.com/dewalt-4-1-8-in-hole-saw/p-00999941000P
are both back on sale for $24.99.

I would guess most people here already own them (or equivalents), but mentioning just in case, as they're 2 of the best values that Sears has, IMO, especially taking into account additional discounts with points and coupons.

What's crazy is that Sears also sells the same tools, in tiny sets, for the same price or higher.
Just 7 of the short torx bits from the 42 piece set $23.96 https://www.sears.com/dewalt-4-1-8-in-hole-saw/p-00999941000P
Six of the standard hex bits from the 42 piece set $24.96 https://www.sears.com/craftsman-6-pc-standard-3-8-in-dr-hex/p-A011909826
Six of the mid-length ball-end bits from the reach & access set $49.96!! https://www.sears.com/craftsman-6-pc-mid-length-ball-hex-bit/p-00942606000P

Sears pricing is puzzling.

Sears pricing is puzzling.

Totally. It is always good to browse around because sometime the larger set maybe cheaper than the smaller set.

They may have a big pile of certain items in their warehouse, and need to move them so they cut the price to help the sale.

You have to keep in mind they do actually have different grades of China depending on if you get the singles or the small set or the larger set. (not even Taiwan but China). For example I got the 20pc extension and adapter set $24.99, and the quality of the included extensions and adaptors is horrific. I would put it at something you would get at the $1 store. Bubbling chrome, rough finish in the drive heads, off center locking balls, plating showing through, extensions were bent etc.

Looking at the singles in the socket isle, the new China stuff there actually looked very clean, no chrome flaws. No drive head roughness etc. Looked like Taiwanese Harbor Freight/Gearwrench Quality.

Checked all the other 20pc sets and same deal. They are all Z-AG vs the stuff on the socket wall was S-AF or A-AG. Some stuff on the wall was even Taiwan. Needless to say I made them swap every single piece in the 20 pc set for singles from the wall and they are now of acceptable quality given the $18 price point after coupons.

So when you see a larger set cheaper than smaller set, there may be a reason for it. Multiple Apex factories in China are printing Craftsman on their sockets. One is more China Crescent grade and the other is Gearwrench grade.

Wow, the http://www.sears.com/craftsman-20-piece-drive-tool-accessory-set/p-A009988410 set? The contents of mine all look and work great, except for the magnetic hex bit adapter being subtly mis-shaped (of course the one piece they don't sell separately  ). The other ones of these that I've seen in store since then don't have any visible issues either, so they sure aren't all like that... :dunno:

Sears pricing is puzzling.

Yeah, see the impact universal joint pricing situation I posted about last night for another example of that. https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=7346705#post7346705

Thanks for the testimonial on those sets, I haven't paid much attention to them since it seems like they're almost always on sale like that, but I think I'll finally at least put the https://www.sears.com/craftsman-42-piece-drive-bit-torx-bit-socket-wrench-set/p-00999941000P (fixed the name in the URL) on my things-to-acquire list! :)

Here is another example of weird pricing:

15"Craftsman 1/2" Drive Flex Handle Socket Wrench $30
https://www.sears.com/craftsman-1-2...sellerId=SEARS&prdNo=8&blockNo=8&blockType=G8

Craftsman 3 pc. Flex Handle Breaker Bar Set $20
https://www.sears.com/kd-tools-5-to...SellerId=Sears&prdNo=2&blockNo=2&blockType=G2
Set includes 6" flex T handle 1/4" drive, 10" flex T handle 3/8" drive, 15" flex T handle 1/2" drive

I think the set is a great value. One of these day I am going to pick this up since I do not own any breaker bar in 1/4" and 3/8".

I believe COO is China. For the price, they look good to my eyes when I saw them at local Hometown store. The reviews are pretty decent.

That set goes on sale for sub-$25 several times per year.

I think the lowest it goes is on Black Friday. Might even get down to $19.99 on Black Friday. I got that set a few years ago on Black Friday, and got lucky when I dug all the way in the back of the hanger and got a dusty Made in the USA version.

The quality of these aren't that good. The chrome socket part is nice, but the inserted black oxide bits are ****. I've snapped several of them already. ** Wear Eye Protection when you use these ** The black inserts like to snap, shatter, and fly. Sears will replace the snapped ones with open stock with no problem, so now I have a mix of USA and China open stock in my set. Both USA and China versions are **** and equally poor quality for the bit inserts.

I bought a couple of these sets last month, the cases are huge and take up lots of space in the tool box. The quality of the made in China stuff doesn’t look that great, I’m debating returning them as I have most of the bits in the set I’d really need.

How well has that 45-tooth ratchet held up? Is it serviceable?

Most of my Craftsman ratchets are the standard 36-tooth RP design.

I can personally testify for the Cman Reach and Access set, and have posted about it previously (two thumbs up). On the 42-piece hex/torx sets, I bought two for gifts, and heard from those friends that they're pleased. I did open and inspect them, but can't personally vouch for their quality during use.

For hex and torx bits, I have multiple Cman USA, Gearwrench, and Capri sets, so didn't need any more for myself. If you're looking for great quality, the Capri CP30002 set is absolutely fantastic in fit, finish, and strength. It's available from Sears for $20 (change "Sold By" to Sears in the price box) (cheaper on Amazon, but I always assume Sears is lower OOP w/points).
https://www.sears.com/capri-tools-hex-bit-socket-sets-s2-bits/p-SPM10121214120
285 Amazon reviews 4.7 stars

My Taiwan-made Gearwrench bits are also nice, but not available from Sears so not relevant. The Cman USA also good, but not relevant.

The CP30002 is the metric set. Here's the CP30003 standard set, same quality, also available from Sears for $20 (change "Sold By" to Sears): https://www.sears.com/capri-tools-hex-bit-socket-sets-s2-bit/p-SPM10121214220

Sears should price match Home Depot on these sets, with free shipping if total is over $35 before points and coupon deductions.

Not as good of a price as the 42 pieces from Craftsman for $25, but the quality is at a different (higher) level.

Another vote for the Capri stuff, I have both the metric and sae Allen's. As Atlm mentions they are not the cheapest but are the best value I have seen in a while. Also if it matters you will not find nicer chrome on any tool.

Nowhere, every Capri item I put in my Sears cart says “Not eligible for points redemption“ anyway.

Right above the price, it says "Sold by." Click that, and you can change it to sears. It might be defaulting to the other price because it is lower, which usually isn't the case with most items on Sears.

So is Capri stuffs in general better than CF? How about this breaker bar?

Capri Tools 1/2 Inch Drive Breaker Bar 24-Inch CrV

Amazon:

Review at Amazon is pretty good, but there are some people who manage to break it after a few use. Not sure if they have a bad batch or what. I do not need it now, but would not mind having a longer breaker bar in my tool box.

The craftsman 444 piece mechanics set is on sale. It's probably not the highest quality but for the price I felt it was worth it. They claim as being in stock at my local store so we shall see.

Sorry I can't post links yet but it's easy to find!

Order Details:

SYW Points
303,641 Points earned on this order
850 Points redeemed on this order

Regular Price Subtotal$899.99
Sale Price Savings-$500.00
Merchandise Subtotal$399.99
Coupons and Discounts
Coupons-$35.00
Other Charges
Shop Your Way Points Redemption
Points Redeemed -$0.85

You saved $535.00 on this order

With the $303.64 in rewards money, plus $35 coupon, plus .85 SYW Points, plus $40 rebate from retailmenot I will ultimately end up paying $42.35 for the entire set so thats a decent enough deal for me that I pulled the trigger today!

I have the 24pc reach & access set too, and those long ball-end hex bits have come in real handy quite a few times. I have a nice set of Bondus but sometimes you need a little more torque in a tight place and the CMan set makes it easy with a ratchet and maybe extension too. It's not the best-looking quality, but it's got the job done.

editing:

just saying...the RetailMeNot deals on top of the coupons and SYW points can make some of these deals super sweet. paid $399 - $35 RMN coupon for a 10-drawer CM tool cabinet (to use as a counter in my kitchen) and got $40 cash back from RMN plus the $304 in points from sears. so i'm in it about the same when all said and done.

i wonder what the deal will be next week when the 300/300 expires...

Just be aware that you will get that $300 back in $25 monthly installments over the next year, not all at once. Still a good deal. :) And anyone else who might attempt it, you must spent at least $300 OOP after all coupons/offers/points used and before tax.

The Pittsburgh Pro breaker bars are one of the best things HF sells, FWIW. In the unlikely event you manage to break the HF one, assuming you have a local HF, replacement would be easier.

1/2" x 25", all chrome, $13 -20%: https://www.harborfreight.com/12-in-drive-25-in-breaker-bar-60819.html

1/2" x 25", with handle grip, $20 -20%: https://www.harborfreight.com/12-in-drive-25-in-professional-breaker-bar-62729.html

To say you only will pay $42.35 means everything you will buy with your points you needed to buy anyway. Maybe if you have a Kmart and spend on food and personal goods, but buying more tools with the points doesn't equate to paying less for the tool set.

Not saying it isn't a good deal, sounds pretty good if you need a set, but just be careful of "rolling" your perceived savings. Using your points in the future on a tool & calling it free, but you already counted the points towards the kit already kind of thing.

I would not recommend these. I have the full set, and they are relegated to the junk drawer. They are thick, the tolerances are bad, and the chrome plating is caked on. They're worse than useless in that they'll round off and mess up the fasteners you use them on. Same goes for the current Craftsman ignition wrench sets.

Craftsman has many tools where the quality got worse cosmetically or in a way that affects longevity of the tool, while not impacting the tool's immediate functionality. I still have and use a lot of them, since you can't beat the price. But I wouldn't use these even if they were free.

darn it just ordered 2 sets got OTD for $43.02 $1.67 in points l had, & $8.00 instant cash points showed up.
Anyone else had bad results/opinions on these?
Oh, I don't pick up till Mid Sept. Will they not charge my card till then?

I have these wrenches and have been very pleased with them. The chrome on my set looks great, and I haven't experienced any fastener damage.

I previously had an SAE US-made raised panel set, and then bought (China-made) singles when a Sears store near me put them on clearance. 3 to 5 years of use with no issues.

I bought the 9-piece set to complete a couple of sizes I didn't have. They had different letter stampings on them (so different batches and/or factories), but have the same nice chrome finish as my singles had, with no spreading or clearance issues during use.

That said, I work on mostly newer (2001 or later) vehicles (and indoor plumbing), not antiques with rusted or frozen fasteners, so that might change the experience. And as has been shared in these forums, there's a wide range in quality in Craftsman from Sears for identical product numbers, so YMMV based different batches and/or factories.

Thanks! I suspect they will work fine for my occasional use. I am just a diy guy so these won’t be heavily used.
From what I have seen at store, in general it seems that the polished version wrench looks better than the RP version. The image for this set shows that they aren’t RP version so hopefully they are pretty good.

I have a 2011 full polish China set when they first switched to China. They have been great on everything from rusty 1970s cars to my modern west coast Toyota's. Like everything Craftsman quality may have slipped while still being China.

I recently got a metric Craftsman Pro USA set on eBay cheap so I don't use mine anymore. Not because there was anything wrong with them, but I'd prefer not to open my tool box and see Chinese stuff in there when I know a USA version exists.

I've been very happy with mine - tight tolerance, excellent chrome quality, fit well and work well. Like most flare wrenches, they are thicker to give more contact area and not round the nut.

I wondered if the other poster was confusing the brand or got a bad set or someone swapped them on a return or something. It was the first negative experience with these I have ever read.

Thanks, I think they'll be OK then.
