Midnight Madness sale gives another 5% off tools until 7AM CT.

The locking pry bar set is down to $25.64, but a chat agent told me I have to pick up the item and chat back for a price protection refund. :rolleyes2 She said she added a note to my order about it.

Urgh I missed this.. This is what happened when I did not check GJ for one evening...

Yeah, I was out for most of the evening, plus thought they wouldn't double up on sales, so I almost didn't! Hopefully we'll be seeing days/weeks like this more often!

This stubby combination wrench set also hasn't been in stock for a long time. It is usually listed on sale at $59.99.

Craftsman 20 pc. Standard & Metric Combination Wrench Set $51.29

There was a big thread a couple of years back about these. The USA made ones were great. I wonder whether they found another box in the warehouse. If anybody buys these, please let us know if you get the coveted USA ones.

Craftsman 450 pc. Mechanic's Tool Set

Craftsman Ultimate Collection 409 pc. Mechanic's Service Set

"If you find a Craftsman mechanics tool set at your local competitors store at a lower price with all the same features as Craftsman set #009-99040 or #009-99608, as determined by the Sears Home Office, then Sears will match the price and give you a $100 Sears gift card for use on a future purchase. 1. You must purchase the Craftsman mechanic set #009-99040 or #009-99608, and the comparable Craftsman item’s price must be lower at your local competitors store during the dates indicated. The price of the competitive set must be at least $1.00 lower than the Craftsman Sears price to be eligible for consideration. Competitive item must be available for purchase at your local competitors store at the time of comparison.

2. When you purchase your Craftsman Sears set, you must then submit proof of the lower price at your local competitors’ store. Proof must be in the form of original print advertising, a screen print of the product page online showing your local competitors store price, or an in-store promotional flyer. Sears will match the set to the comparable Sears Craftsman set and will determine, in its sole discretion, whether the submission qualifies. I tried; it's impossible to win. Sears is the exclusive retailer for this set.

At least it doesn't have to be the exact same set by model number, 'just' one that contains all the same tools in all the same sizes. It would be possible for SBD to put out a competing set designed to match feature-for-feature, but Sears probably only made this 'offer' because they knew no such set has yet been released.

Ya I was looking around at different sets recently and that's exactly what I am seeing. Sears has a limited a number of sets that are different from ones I seen at Blaines, and Summit. Probaly it's the same with ACE and Lowes too.

Has anyone had Sears go and reverse a price protection claim??

I chatted several agents, eventually got one to agree to my $5 refund on a item I used a coupon on. Of course I saved my transcript. Then a couple hours later I get this random email from some supervisor that claimed the chat agent erred and they will be revoking the refund?!? What the heck! Check your emails carefully guys after they claim they issue a refund to your card.

I doubt this **** will fly with my Amex. Sending them the chat transcript as proof that they are refunding me but never did it and getting my dang $5. Sorry Sears you can't play just kidding in the real world.

Thanks, Hexen.

Say, how long do you think that will stay on sale? How often does it go on sale?

If you're talking about the big tool sets, I don't pay much attention to those. Remember the current prices are probably 10% lower than usual this week.

Ouch! I don't think I've ever seen that happen to anyone before, here or on SD. Might be something new, and I'm guessing they're more likely to try that with real-money refunds instead of points.

I have had a reversal. It turned out in my case the representative did the adjustment twice, so I accepted it no problem. The email could have been worded much clearer.

Never heard of this before. That is crazy, but I can see that happening because these people are overseas. My guess is they can pull **** like that over there, but not in the US.

I have said this before, that is why I always like chat, then get a copy of the transcript. E v e r y t i m e  If there are any problems, it is very easy to prove who said what when :see:

this isn't a deal yet, but the Craftsman Magnetic Tool Organization Panel is back in stock at $17.99. i added to my cart just in case it has another crazy drop

Interesting, it's even back in stock at my local store apparently. People thought it was a final clear-out and not coming back, at the previous low prices. Apparently not, just Sears randomness unintentionally being nice, I guess. ;) How low did it get before?

Is anybody having trouble with their local corporate store not showing up as available for pickup? I have looked at several deals posted over the last week or so, all ship to store items, and distant KMarts and Sears are listed, but not my local store. It hasn't been on any closing lists, and I was just there the other day, but it does make me wonder.

That is weird...

For me the Craftsman magnetic panel is back, but this time it is not available to pick at hometown store nearest to me. Luckily I have 3 of these. I would like to have 2-3 more if it ever go back down to $6-7.

This can happen occasionally at any store. Either their store ordering system has gotten out of sync with the website and someone at corporate needs to fix it, which can take days/weeks and multiple reminders from your store's manager to them; or else the store is having a temporary staffing shortage in their order fulfillment staff and so management intentionally turned off the store's ability to accept orders until that resolves. I have personally experienced the first scenario at my store, in fall 2017, and have seen the second scenario reported on SD etc. It's not an indication of closure potential; my store is still open, and seems to be doing about as well as can be expected for a Sears store. ;) Even stores that do actually get put on closure lists continue accepting orders for a couple weeks after the announcement, before liquidation actually begins.

I picked up my red 16x24 aluminum square yesterday. I already owned the silver (just a clearcoat over aluminum) one, bought several years ago when they were US-made.

Like all the Johnson-made Craftsman rulers/levels, it is now made in China. Its finish is imperfect along the edges, probably from them filing off excess metal at the factory, and one edge has some bits of excess metal that they missed filing off. Except for the unfiled edge, it is straight/smooth. Hopefully that won't be too hard to get a decent edge on myself; I have some micro diamond files.

I thought there might have also been a dime-sized area of missing finish on one side, but once I got it out of the shrinkwrap, that turned out to just be some excess white paint (that had been used to fill in the engraved markings) which I was able to easily scrape off with just a fingernail.

For those two concerns, I had asked to see if the remaining one on the shelf was in better condition than the one they brought out for me to pick up, but it had a deep wavy scratch down the whole length of one leg, so I went with the first one.

It might be a millimeter or two thinner than the US one, but still feels similarly stiff/substantial.

So it is definitely not perfect, but it is much easier to read in imperfect lighting, which is why I got it (and it matches other shiny red rulers/levels I now have ;) ). I don't think the red version has ever been US-made, just the silver one and a black one (which had sold out at my store before I bought the last US silver one). [Edit: Apparently they did make red ones in the US too but I never saw 'em until it was too late.] Then there were no squares and aluminum levels at my store at all for a couple years or so until production resumed overseas.

Thanks for the info. I believe they were short staffed, as about a month ago it was the store manager fulfilling pick up orders, so that may be the cause. They must be having real trouble finding employees, the tool associate was wearing jeans and a black sweatshirt and really did not look like he was an employee.

Also Hexan, the red aluminium square was made in the US at one point. I have one.

I'm just getting into Sears. I'm also noticing that they're having weekly sales, but changing the sales price by $5-$10 for tools.

Are there times of year, e.g. after Christmas, Black Friday, or Father's Day, when the really good sales happen?

Thank you

Prices can change at any time. For the last several months there have been frequent, but not every week, online sales on Thursday nights that take an additional 5% off whatever the current prices are. And last week we also had a week-long 10% off sale going on, a week after President's Day. The best sale ever was a week before Thanksgiving last year. :dunno:

Make sure you are signed up for a ShopYourWay account, and provide your cell phone number in the profile, in addition to agreeing to receive all Sears/SYW marketing emails (you may be disqualified from some offers if you don't). Sears periodically, on no particular pattern, offers electronic coupons or freecash surprise points (both reduce the price of your purchase but in different ways) that require sending a text message to get them. They did a lot of those in the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas last year, and continue to offer some the rest of the year, we've had several come and go already this year.

Oh, and for larger purchases, there are often coupons available on retailmenot.com (RMN). You can usually only use one coupon and/or freecash surprise points offer per order, and using a coupon means no freecash will apply.

Though, they may still have to better on the price for the GJ crowd, because I'm sure many here got Gladiator cabinets for $100 or less.

I'm only aware of 28" and 24" Gladiator cabinets so if one needs or wants 30" these may still be preferable. But yeah, I got one of the 28's at Lowe's for $89? I think it was?

Sears 2019 is just a shell of the former mega store. Many threads on Sears can be found on this forum and the business model how-not-to-run a company should be required reading at all business schools.

I would check this thread daily. Between all of us here we usually manage to flag the good deals as soon as it happens. It won’t be like last year because lots of items are not available anymore. But I think there are still some meat left on the bones. Sales seems to happen randomly like what @Hexen said.

I asked the manager at the closest Sears Outlet about this when they didn’t show up. He said if there was an issue with the connection with Corporate they just went out out of the system. Before my closest Sears closed, they would drop in and out of the system on a regular basis or over a year. Even before the closing announcement came.

Anything is possible. Just visited my remaining sears yesterday to pick up an online order and the online inventory doesn’t show everything in stock that’s in the store. Tried to order a work parka last week, but the store would not match the online points deal and said they were two separate businesses. Store employee tried to sweeten the deal with 5 then 10% off. I told them it was just a business decision not to purchase at this time.

Gladiator makes a 30" pre-welded USA-made wall cabinet that would regularly drop to $100 or less on sale from Sears. I've yet to see anybody offer a deal nearly as good since Sears dropped Whirlpool. It used to be posted and discussed frequently here in the deals forum.

Finally had the time to stop at Sears and pick up the adjustable pry bars. These seem really well made. They have a great feel to them and the weight is noticeable. Taiwan made.

Same kind of box mine came in except mine were loose inside the box and rattling around.

For anyone who uses cashback portals, someone on SD reports that Sears is making one of its occasional brief reappearances on some now. Swagbucks and Mypoints mentioned, maybe others, at 6% back (on out-of-pocket spending only).

BeFrugal has been at 5% for a while now.

Separately, my dad got a letter from Sears Mastercard yesterday. Turned out it was because the account hasn't been used in 41 months, and they are going to close it in 2 months without use. They incentivized a promo for $60 credit with $300 in qualified spending.
