I could have sworn I read that Livonia and Westland were slated to close but I suppose not. Two more places to get free stuff!
They still plan on closing more stores in the future. Not sure how that's a business plan, but I guess it doesn't matter as they are already exited out of large portions of the country as it is.

Even the F&F 10% off was a bit lackluster, so 5% off immediately afterwards isn't very motivating.

The GearWrench set was $71.99 (10% off) during the F&F event.
(best deal was $49.99 back in Dec for those living near a Tractor Supply Co.)
I remember that! Heck of A deal ay ~ $50.00!!
Didn't last long IIRC, and wasn't at My Local stores IIRC again.....LOL.

They’re back to the same business plan they had before the bankruptcy: use the retail stores to hold onto thousands (soon to be hundreds) of pieces of real estate which will be used for profit. Where market conditions are favorable, the real estate is spun off to Eddie’s RIET or related entities for a low price, then leased back to Sears or others at a profit. The sales proceeds are used by the Sears to stay afloat, including paying rent. For the stores that close, the real estate is fully released to others or sold off. Rinse. Repeat.

When the real end comes Eddie’s other companies will own real estate worth substantially more than he invested in Sears. Meanwhile, some Sears employees continue to have jobs and we sometimes get good deals on tools.

I got over to the store and picked it up today. It is cool, but it is tiny. The entire set fits in a box which is smaller than my phone.

In for 1 of these after points oop on mine was $11 and change. Mine is supposed to be at the store on the 27th of March. Hoping it shows up on time.

I had not read anything like that. Im pretty sure those are wholly owned stores including the land they sit on. Livonia store is the sole anchor store of a now closed suburban mall, the rest of the acreage has been opened up to a strip mall type setup. Westland is a co-anchor store (Macys closed over a year ago) in the dying westland mall complex; my parents used to drop me off here as a teenager in the 90's to kill time with friends, the mall was always packed - today it is a ghost town, only a few people wandering. Sad.

I think that all of the operating stores left in Michigan are owned by the company. I grew up going to the Saginaw Sears and the rest of the mall and spent many hours killing time there during college while I had breaks between classes. That mall was always busy and as far as I know, it still has all the anchor stores like the Portage mall. I was most recently at the Grandville Sears a couple weeks ago and that store was BUSY but it is still a very nice, two-story mall; I couldn't tell you the last time I saw a Sears busy like that but so was the entire mall.

GearWrench 32 pc. Ratcheting Combination Wrench Set $75.99
pretty sure ive never seen it lower (or at any other price, actually) than $79.99. looks like coupons will work on it too, as well as $10.** back in points. i wish i could find just the 12pc stubby set from sears...

$79.99 is a common price for that set. If you're not in a rush, then you may as well wait for another 10% off tools event. Or check on it again when there's a good cashback in points offer (I think there was once a $50 points offer).

Maybe go for it now at $79.99 - SEARS5OFF50 = $74.99, plus $60 cashback in points.

i ended up getting in on the $60/60 deal. picked up one of these

GearWrench 4 pc. Metric Flat Full Polish Ratcheting Combination Wrench Set $49.49-5.00 coupon

(plus a filter for my wetvac to put it over $60) ok price, nothing cheaper popped up in a 2 page google search other than a sketchy ebay listing or so. $5 cheaper than the F&F price last week too.

i swear--sears' pricing strategy must be designed to entice people to browse daily just to make sure theyre getting the best price. i know i at least check all my orders from the past 30 just to make sure they havent dropped each day--and randomly they do, all the time.

Yeah internally they probably wondering... we got lots of traffic into the website, but no sales... Most of the traffic is from people wanting to check prices and do price protection :lol_hitti

Same here, I price checked often since their price just randomly dropped.

My order to MOB Peddinghaus tools came in. COO is Taiwan. The tools look solid, but seem over-priced for what they are.

The package came with a comically large amount of dust on the packaging. They must have been sitting in a warehouse for years.

Which kinds of tools did you get from them?

I checked a couple zip codes around me, but no more of the Made in USA Permanex storage boxes are in stock locally for me.

Craftsman 22" Standard Truck Box

i can vouch for this one. picked it up as a present back in december and when i saw how well made it was and its storage size i decided to pick one up for me. but for the next 2 months it wasnt available to ship to my last local kmart. i basically checked it each time i was on the site--then one night all of a sudden it came back as available for pick up and i jumped on it, even paid OOP. been watching for it to come back again so my buddy can get one, but so far nothing for the last month. its a tricky SOB to get, but well worth the price.

Don’t always depend on the online inventory to reflect what’s available in the store. Same thing I track on line availability, system reports zero, when I visit the store the item is sitting on the shelf.

The excuse I get Is “They are 2 separate businesses”

Great, I tell them it’s just a business decision when they cannot match the online price with whatever bonus points they are offering at the time. So no hard feeling.

Most retail have their online inventory reflect it having one less than it does. This is to prevent customer disappointment if they don't have item due to shoplifting, there is a chance someone has it in their hand walking around the store, or one of them is a display. Both saw blades I bought from Lowe's on clearance this last week had 1 more on the shelf after I had bought what online said was all of them.

I will say retailers claiming the whole separate business thing, is a bunch of $hit. Yes they have to because of where the online transactions occur, it has to be separate. My response is, what's the 2nd businesses' stock symbol? Oh, that's right only one company.

...

That is what Sears tries to do (only let you order online for immediate pick-up until they think inventory is down to 1 in that store). But in the last few months they have increasingly been making mistakes due to what showed up on the truck not matching what got loaded into the system for that truck (they don't actually inventory what they take off the truck in the store), and/or intentionally omitting substantial quantities of certain items from ever being able to be ordered online. And there are a few items in-store that aren't even listed online.

I checked a couple zip codes around me, but no more of the Made in USA Permanex storage boxes are in stock locally for me.

I guess it's the last chance to grab some if you find them.

Craftsman 12" Utility Case

Craftsman 17" Compact Truck Box

Craftsman 22" Standard Truck Box

Oh no, I hope not! Those are nice sturdy boxes. You never know with Sears, they could be back to normal shipments of these in a month, or they could disappear forever. :( All already gone in my store according to the website, will have to check in person to be sure.

Anyone know if there will be midnight madness tonight?

They never announce Midnight Madness in advance, unlike Friends & Family (F&F) sales. It has happened on many Thursday nights in the last couple months, but not all; and last week they weirdly did it on a Wednesday night.

Whenever I had trouble finding something for expiring points, these were a great option. I think I've ended up with about a dozen of these over the years.

Don't even see a ship-to-store option anymore.

always remember to check kmart for the same item--occasionally itll be cheaper for no apparent reason

Craftsman 2-in-1 Knee Pads $5.99 if you can find them local. you can buy from sears for $12.99

Craftsman Non-Marring Knee Pads $14.99 from kmart and $21.99 from sears also looks like there are two listings on each site for those--same model #, different picture

btw...the 22" truuck box still shows on sears (no shipping available to home or store) and both SYW and kmart show unavailable. if you can find one, might want to get it now

EDIT: here's some more low priced cart fillers

Craftsman 8 Pocket Wrench Roll $4.99

Craftsman 12 Pocket Wrench Roll $5.99 --this was maybe $9.99-10.99 last week?

Dickies 57012 Mug Organizer, Tan $3.96 -- pretty sure hexen mentioned this a week or two ago but dont remember the price

Anyone still able to grab a nextec drill at their store? Mine is out, and I would love a spare. EBay wants more for a bare tool than the kit from Sears.

Sent from my Moto G (5) Plus using The Garage Journal mobile app

Last I looked Kmart had a full shelf. If you want to check 80537 is the zip.
I would pick up and ship for cost.

Looks like they are in stock and you get $10 back over $50.

Hell you might as well come get it yourself...

The prices for Nextec stuff on ebay is getting crazy. I sold my circular saw for like $160 after collecting dust in my garage for years.

My store is totally out. No batteries even.

maggots feasting off a rotting corpse would have been 2017+2018...in 2019 it's more like a crackhead looking for change in the crevices of a couch left on the side of the road just trying to get enough to smoke that good sweet rock one last time

[eta: 90% of my tools are from the Sears/SYW free-for-all. I'm not knockin the hustle, I just think it's good to make light of things from time to time.]

Same here.

I was thinking about getting Nextec impact late last year, but end up with Dewalt. Hoping that in the future if I need batteries, Dewalt will be easier and cheaper to find.

I've avoided getting into cordless power tools yet; whenever I do, I've had Milwaukee at the top of my list for a while now. Dewalt is fine too. I definitely wouldn't advise getting into the disjointed remains of Craftsman cordless power tools through Sears at this point for anyone not already 'committed' to one of the Sears Craftsman systems.
