Looks like those two are the hardest-to-find things on your list. The first one is unavailable for home shipping and unavailable at any store in 100 miles of me; and the second one is unavailable for home shipping and only available at a Hometown store 97 miles away from me. (It is possible that some of these could still be at my store and they're just not allowing online orders for them, as we talked about earlier, but I don't think I've seen those in years.) So anybody who is interested in either of those tools and still has them available in your area, you should probably move them up on your list of what to buy next. :)

---------.

They've been at my store for a while, but at full price. Should sell out now.

Website always shows them as out of stock.

I was at this hometown store 45 min away from me (first time I have been to this particular store). This one has all kind of tools, and some of them are on sale, including shovels and rakes. I was in a hurry as I was meeting someone, so did not really have a good look at things. My point is even if you can not use points, some hometown stores may have things that is worth buying.

I guess they get smarter that they do not ship items that are long. I ordered a digging/pry bar a while back and they shipped it for free. This thing is probably 5 ft long and 20 lbs of solid steel - cant imagine it is cheap to ship :lol_hitti I can not find it anymore at the website

You CAN use points in-store at Hometowns too. :) You just can't use freecash surprise points offers, or coupons.

What about cashback in points? I thought you could no longer use those earned bonus points at Sears Hometown or Sears Outlet stores.

I haven't visited either of those stores since the change on our Points History page:

"$**.** to spend at SYW.com, Sears & Kmart"

"$**.** to spend at Sears Hometown & Outlet"

is that still a thing? because i thought corp bought all hometown and converted them to corp stores. or is there still a distinction where corp owns them all but still wont let you use freecash at half the stores for absolutely no reason?

actually it depends on how the points were earned. I was only able to use a couple dollars of my $130+ at the time at the home town store was closing. We kept trying but was denied. The owner then came up, and said the same thing happened to her, and could only redeem a portion of her points earned at the store she OWNED (or did, then told she wont be anymore).

So while you can, it depends. I skipped buying the sand blaster, as I couldn't use my points. So instead I had to pay $20 cash for my $400 in stainless steel lag bolts :).

The company acquisition is still in progress. And the actual Hometown stores will remain franchises so they still might not accept everything the corporate stores do.

Many points work at Hometown stores but there are some discrepancies, yes. Go to https://www.shopyourway.com/secured/rewards/account-history#my-points and it will tell you at the top of the page how many of your points are spendable at Hometowns. For me, the difference in amounts is the amount I got from a price adjustment with chat recently. I can't say for sure if stuff like the $15 from $15-back-on-$100 is spendable at Hometowns since I don't have that myself, but if someone who does goes to that link, we can find out. :)

Facepalm from someone on SD:

"Seperate UPS packages for every item [ordered from Sears during this blowout sale]. I've received over 2 dozen shipments in the last two days and more are on the way. I didn't even order two dozen items in total. I'm getting things I didn't even order. I've received 7 identical pairs of the pliers even though I ordered one."

perhaps my confusion comes from the fact that ive purchased plenty from sears.com for pick up at a hometown store and can always use points/freecash, but only once or twice have i made an in-store purchase there

and yeah lol i was going to post how many shipments my stuff came in once it was over. not kidding...

my parents have 7 shipments on 8 items
my first order was 5 shipments on 10 items
my second order was 10 shipments on 11 items, with an extra shipment due to the mixed up chisel set. and one of my items--i ordered 3 utility knives--they split into 2 shipments. all my tracking #s show coming in thru next tuesday

so on my 2 orders worth $120 OOP they sent 16 shipments. theyre losing so much on this its ridiculous

im still hoping for more duplicates tho ;) id love to get freebies like that SD user

also...my parents ordered over $100 and got the $15 back...but it was only $14 bonus points plus the normal $1.** points. pretty sure before on most cash back orders when they advertised ** back it was all on top of the normal points. just another example of them tightening the purse strings. you know, so they can pay for shipping 16x over lol

Has anyone ordered a Hansen socket tray lately using points? My PS is not available, so I have some other PS who insist that Sears do not sell this, so I can not use my points. When I put this item on my cart, I can use my points but of course it wants to charge shipping, so that is why I wanted to order via PS.

And the crazy thing is, I had order this exact same item via my PS (not the replacement PS) and was able to use my points about 2 months ago.

I guess things are different via different PS? Maybe she did not want to let me use my points so just come up with some BS?

It is apparently difficult for PSes to order items where the Sears-as-seller listing for it got demoted beneath a third-party seller listing for the same item. But it can be done, if they know what they're doing.

Gotcha... whew...why even bother with PS, that just extra steps and waste of time to try to save couple bucks.

I just bought one from Home Depot. Does not even take 2 minutes, and I am done ordering :lol_hitti Yes, I do not pay with points but save me time on the back and forth. I am at work so I can not be going back and forth trying to order $10 item.

Update here:
So they told me to order it via Sears, and then they will return my shipping cost. I was a bit hesitant and I already order one from HD, but thought hey why not. I am not sure what else I really want from Sears at this point. I am sure there are other items that I want, but I do not have time to browse until later tonight.

So kudos for them trying to get this right for me. Still this took a lot of back and forth during work hour, which for most people that is a deal breaker.

I know Extech had the contract to make many meters for Craftsman, but did anyone ever figure out who made the latest generation for Sears?

EDIT: Looks like the clamp meter is a discontinued Extech model.

Craftsman 400A AC/DC True RMS Clamp Meter $27.94
prod_19944393212

I just got this Clamp meter today and it is awesome. It is an Extech MA435T rebranded in Craftsman Livery. Usually sells for $158-$168.

I knew there was a reason I was still monitoring this thread, thanx Doohickey!!

So they told me to order it via Sears, and then they will return my shipping cost.

FYI about return of shipping costs: I was told the same thing on a previous order. Shipping costs were put on my credit card, and the rest of the order was points. The refund I received for shipping costs was applied to my SYW account, which credited points, not the charges to my card. I was told there was nothing they could do to fix that.

So if your entire order is OOP, then it should credit back what you expect. If it's a points/OOP mix, there's a high likelihood you won't get the OOP portion back.

There seems to be conflicting information about the end date for this sale. Sears chat has told me the sale ends on Sep 21 (Saturday night) for many of the items I've asked about.

Not sure what to believe, so I ordered everything I wanted to avoid missing the sale.

Thanks for the warning @atlm. Before I pulled the trigger, I asked specifically, and was told the refund will be back into my credit card instead of SYW points. Since this is a chat in SYW apps, I have prove of who said what when. We will see... I will check my credit card in a few days.

This is a good idea to order everything asap. Even if the sale still going on, I think for some of these items, once they ran out of them, they may not get re-stocked.

Many items are already sold out from when it first started. I was told much of this was excess stock from during bankruptcy that they are getting rid of.

Saturday is a possible in store end date, web sales usually end on Tuesday.

Edit: darn this stupid sale, I keep buying more and more stuff, clamp meter, mini bolt cutters, a plier set for my son’s trunk tool bag, a garbage disposal, utility cutters, and on and on, phone repair tool set, I keep going on there and finding more stuff

Hopefully that chat rep just didn't have any idea what they're talking about... this sale has been promoted in multiple places as being through Oct 5 (which is also a Saturday). Wouldn't be the first time we've seen one randomly make stuff up instead of admitting they don't know the real answer.

If it doesn’t end this Saturday it will likely run through the 24th at least. Most of the time the in store sale ends Saturday into Sunday and the web sale ends Tuesday into Wednesday. This did start last week and most sales run two weeks. There are exceptions of course, the Labor Day one ran 3 weeks. 28th and the 1st would be more likely. I wouldn’t trust the chat reps to know I think they’re mostly outsourced.

They are 100% outsourced. :) The company Sears uses for chat is called 247.ai, they have reps based in India and the Philippines.

I had a sad, eye opening day yesterday.

Went to the now most local (20 miles away) store for me to pick up my order and all went well with that, I had my order in 1:32 (impressive to say the least). After putting my order in the truck, I went into the actual store and all I can say is wow! I saw three other people that weren't employees in the half hour I was there. The store is pretty much barren, wide open spaces with nothing in them at all. The tool section was maybe 1/3 full of tools, lots of blank spots with cards hanging on them. The young lady working in the tool section was putting stock on the shelves as it was "truck day" for her but when asked, she had no idea what was being shipped into the store on that day. Reportedly... the only way she knew was when she opened the box.

Remember the saying.... "Solid as Sears"?

I would have never dreamed Sears could be like it is now.....

This was in Elmira NY

Yep they definitely are. Even my store Chula Vista that won't warranty tools or honor other sales because they know people will cross the border and pay full price is abiding by this one. The lady was horrified that the metric tap set rang up 80% off and throught I must have switched barcodes.

Sadly, "she had no idea what was being shipped into the store on that day ... the only way she knew was when she opened the box" is actually the normal operating procedure for a whole lot of other major store chains these days, not a unique failing of Sears.

Pretty much true, even when I worked at Wal-Mart in college unless you read the truck report you wouldn’t know what was actually arriving.

It looks like prices went up for some items today, but some are still low. For example, the Extreme Grip size 3 Philips I got for $1.94 is now $8.98.

https://www.sears.com/craftsman-extreme-grip-ph3x6in-diamond-tip-screwdriver/p-00916185000P

Interestingly, that screwdriver showed out of stock for the last few days, but is now showing available at the higher price.

Interesting. Looks like the sale ends early on any item that sells out but manages to get restocked promptly. I wonder if stores that still have it in stock will have the lower price in-store still. Also, I noticed that the website was too dumb to take it off of Hot Buy status despite now being only a $0.01-off sale, lol.

If it’s just to clear excess stock and they’re not actually getting rid of the item entirely it’s not surprising. Once the surplus is gone then the item will probably return to its normal price.

This blow out is going to make me broke! Went to the store to pick up my online stuff. Went back in and it was a ghost town. I found a lot of good stuff that I don’t think the showed in-stock online. The gear wrench sets where $49, not sure if the ever went back up.

Nice. I was a bit slow on deciding if I really want spare meters, but they disappeared from the store pretty fast after my post. Even the most expensive model got snatched up. :lol_hitti

The same thing happened to me! I went inside the store and they had several things the website has said were out of stock at the store, with the same sale prices as online.

Some of the things I got in store included this General Tools telescoping basin wrench for $7, which has good reviews on Amazon.

https://www.sears.com/general-tools-140xl-basin-wrench-large-jaw-11/p-SPM8817413302

I also picked up this 72 tooth bit ratchet for $7, made by Lang in the US.

https://www.sears.com/craftsman-5-piece-72-tooth-magnetic-bit-wrench/p-00946157000P

That's similar to this 3 piece bit ratchet set they had as well for $14, also on sale individually for $7 each. These are also made in the USA, though with far fewer teeth, a little larger in size, and with the ratcheting mechanism exposed instead of sealed as in the above bit ratchet.

https://www.sears.com/craftsman-7-pc-bit-wrench-set-sae/p-00947477000P

I contemplated getting the Pro Series multimeter for about a day, during which they sold out. However, during that day, I did such a good job convincing myself that I do in fact want it, that I ended up buying one on eBay for about $8 more than it was from Sears after shipping. Looks like it's now dropped another $5 on the website, but it was sold out and unavailable for shipping before the drop.

I was looking at the Extechs on Amazon, and none quite match the features of the Pro Series Craftsman meter. The closest I could find, but with different button layouts and no Bluetooth, is the EX520, which is $150 on Amazon.

I got both of those last summer at just 10% off. IIRC, the fewer-teeth set's angled ratchets are at a different angle than the 72-tooth one, so it's worth having them all.
