@yrly I really like how the Companion set have a small box and those wrenches are arranged tightly without wasted space. I have some plastic wrench holders that I currently use, but do not packed them tightly like this box.

I do think I have seen any wrench holder that packed them like this.

workbench is back up to $299. there were some stainless ones on the blowout sale, but at higher prices. if anyone snagged one for $150 (minus your freecash) and got the $100 back then id say you got a killer deal

First $25 installment showed up today.

If you can find them, this is a solid deal on the USA made Impact Bolt Out set for $34.99: https://www.sears.com/craftsman-10-pc-impact-grade-bolt-out-trade-damaged/p-00952165000P

They showed unavailable for me yesterday, but today allowed me to order one (only one) for shipping. I'm going to check the store tonight to see if they still have one left in stock and if it's on sale there. I'd really like a second set for a gift.

Off topic, I heard a radio ad that Napa stores are also now carrying Craftsman tools.

Does anyone have this "middle" level tool drawer, or use a similar?

https://www.sears.com/26-in-3-drawe...lerId=SEARS&prdNo=47&blockNo=47&blockType=G47

I'm thinking that it's expensive, even on sale, for only 3 drawers, because, for home use, I have more floor space to buy a cheap, used rolling tool cart and top chest.

I think 1,830 sq. in. of storage space for $70 is expensive. Having said that, I understand that your situation may not be the same as me.

For me, I have adjustable shelving in three walls of my garage, and I do not need the bottom rolling cart to match up with the top box. I just aim for the cheapest sq in per dollar. I end up getting HyperTough 41" top box 9,619 sq in for $60 a few months ago (thread here). Not saying you will be able to replicate this exact deal, but black Friday, Christmas and end of year is coming up, and I am pretty sure you can get better deal than that small middle box.

I also bought International 56" top box (16746 sq in) from Sears. A few of us got into this deal at end of last year iirc. I think it was a clearance sale but with Sears, you never know if they will have another similar sale.

Thanks. How is your HyperTough tool box holding up? It's out of stock and now sells for $314 (non-sale?). Darn!

I *was* going to disparage the HyperTough Wal-Mart brand, but then it looks EXACTLY like this Husky I've been eyeing:

https://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-2...ol-Chest-in-Gloss-Black-HKST98066BK/309580736

Do you agree?

I agree they look very similar.

I can say that my HyperTough is not as good as my International box. I feel that the drawers are more flimsy and can flex more (probably thinner metal? I do not have any tools to measure metal thickness).

My wife, who has no idea about tools also say the same thing after opening and closing the drawers.

Having said all that, I am a DYI, who have too many free tools from Sears :lol_hitti, and need to organize them better. I do not slam my drawers, and they are not being opened and closed several times per day, and they are not loaded to the max capacity. I think this box works great for me.

Would I like to have better box? Absolutely.
Would I want to pay more for better quality box? Absolutely not, because it makes no difference to me in my current situation.

Now if I am in a shop, the drawers are open and closed multiple times per day, and they are loaded to the max, then that may make a big difference how much I am willing to spend.

That’s partly why I bought two of those companion sets when they were clearanced for $9, in case the case broke. The case is actually really well made and held up well in the set I use. This extra set mainly just sits around in my basement though. The wrenches held up really well for chinese ones. This may be the vendor Sears used for the Ultimate Collection but the wrenches aren’t stamped with anything to identify a source, I’m just going by how the name was printed for that guess and the feel.

I did see a set of them new on eBay like a month or two ago and was tempted to grab them but what are the chances I’d ever need the third set if I haven’t really used this set yet?

Suddenly, I can't find on sears.com the Craftsman Universal Max Axess ratchet/socket set, though the individual sockets and ratchets are there:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008L2HTCG/?tag=atomicindus08-20

Anyone have a link to this set, part number 9-31088?

I think they are getting rid of them. The other two sets are still at the blowout prices.

i wish my first choice of 56" top in orange was available for that deal...but $4 OOP on a 42" red hutch wasnt a bad deal at all. especially with free shipping. saved over $600 on that deal according to my email receipt ;) still havent opened the hutch yet either lol

Good news. Found an in store display of the ornaments. They rang up 6.99 despite being shelf labeled for 9.99. Was able to use the 10 off 25 on it, so it doesn't have to be a single $25 item. Was about $35~ out the door for the set of 6.

Congrats. You're lucky all 6 designs were still there. I think most of the tools customers don't realize these exist (I didn't until just a couple years ago), or they'd disappear even faster. I heard of one store a year or two ago that put the Craftsman ornaments display on a table right next to the tools-dept checkout area, instead of it being hidden among the other Christmas knickknacks, and then they sell out very quickly.

Craftsman Heat guns are currently made by Steinel in Romania

I have a Swedish made wood handled wood saw and I only bought it a year and a half ago, it’s conceivable some of those are still out in the wild. I don’t know who made it though since I thought Bahco made most of these sizes in Portugal now. This was probably around March 2018 that I got it. I’ll get a pic when I go out to my garage

WF stuff is still in a lot of the big mechanics sets because I doubt that stuff sells fast, so it’s possible you’ll get WF pliers, screwdrivers, punches etc. I got a set earlier this year that still had USA punches and pliers.

Thanks for the info, updated. :)

I had missed out on saws (except for a couple non-Bahco hacksaws and drywall saws) at my store by the time I got heavily into Sears-shopping about 2.5-3 years ago, and they never really came back. The one you got was probably near the end for Swedish saws to still be hanging around, but you never know what might randomly show up from the warehouse at some lucky store.

One that I did get to buy was the "Jr." mini hacksaw with German-made blades, but haven't been able to figure out who made them.

For anyone in the market for garage door openers who missed out on the 3/4 HP one a few days ago (it is still available in some areas, but apparently sold out in other parts of the country), there's now a 1 HP one with battery backup for only $20 more than the 3/4 HP one was. Someone on SD says this one was $200 two days ago, just went on sale lower.

Craftsman 1 hp Ultra-Quiet Belt Drive Garage Door Opener
https://www.sears.com/craftsman-57918-1-horsepower-diehard-174-battery/p-00957918000P
$169.99 sale, $309.99 regularly
qualifies for the $100-back-on-$100-OOP daily deal
made by Chamberlain

If you don't live near a store, try asking Sears.com chat if they can get you free shipping, since it's not eligible for the usual $35+=free thing.

Hmm that one is in stock locally. I ordered the 3/4 one for my dad’s garage.

I was gonna buy a $100 one as a backup I have $30 in points but it’s kinda overkill. I could chance it they stay that price until Friday when I have $55 in points.

This is a link to one of the Steinel heatguns, there were two different ones but this is the only one I can find so the other might be discontinued.

https://www.sears.com/craftsman-gen...sellerId=SEARS&prdNo=1&blockNo=1&blockType=G1

I attached a pic of the saw as well.

I decided to add notes about manufacturers to the Craftsman items in my Sears purchases spreadsheet, for the items known to be made by a company more noteworthy than Apex/Danaher (who makes/made a lot of Sears Craftsman products). I didn't find a list of all of the recent (about the last 10 years or so, not vintage) Sears Craftsman OEM vendor relationships in one place, so here's what I've pieced together from our previous discussions here in the Sears deals thread of where products were made, a few other threads, and additional research.

Most of this stuff is no longer available from Sears. I don't own all of these myself, but I've tried to make this list as complete as I could within its intended scope, to help other people who might want to refer to it in the future. If you know of anything I missed (and which isn't from decades ago), let me know and I'll add it. :) There is a thread here for dating manufacturer codes going back many decades. After getting any additional input here, I'll copy the results to a new thread for easier reference.

hand tools:
  • digital tire gauge = Accutire
  • Craftsman Industrial wrenches = Armstrong (made in USA) (these were discontinued because that whole factory closed)
  • one particular hacksaw, possibly some wood-handled wood saws = Bahco (made in Sweden)
  • all-black automotive-department-version adjustable oil filter pliers, finger grip socket adapters, finger bit drivers = Cal-Van Tools (made in USA)
  • electrical testing tools = CEM Instruments manufacturing for Extech
  • XL Ratcheting Wrench Set; some hooks/picks; newer trim removal tools; shiny-finish hose clamp pliers; indexable prybars; pinless impact sockets/U-joints = Gearwrench/KD (made in Taiwan)
  • the elusive black-finish hose pinch pliers, & some snap-ring/retaining-ring pliers = Imperial (made in USA), also rebranded for multiple tool-truck brands
  • Bolt-Out sets = Irwin Hanson Bolt-Grip (made in USA)
  • levels & squares = Johnson Level (was made in USA until ~2018 switch to China)
  • one particular set of Craftsman Professional pliers = rebranded Knipex Cobras (made in Germany)
  • ratcheting bit wrenches, some snap-ring/retaining-ring pliers, & rethreading kit = Lang (fka Kastar) (made in USA), also rebranded for multiple tool-truck brands
  • mechanic's stethoscope, older trim removal tools, older seal puller = Lisle (made in USA)
  • body hammers = Martin
  • Craftsman Professional pry bars, cable-operated hose clamp pliers, & some hooks/picks = Mayhew (mostly made in USA; the hose clamp pliers were made in France)
  • metal snips (non-Evolv) = Midwest Tool & Cutlery (made in USA)
  • external thread repair tool = NES (made in Israel)
  • files = Nicholson
  • 'Power Drive' dead-blow hammers & fiberglass-handle 4-tip soft-face hammer = Nupla (made in USA)
  • folding bolt cutters = Olympia Tools
  • band clamp = Powertec
  • one particular ratcheting screwdriver = Schroder (made in Germany)
  • heat guns = Steinel (made in Romania)
  • Craftsman Professional wire strippers = Stride (made in USA)
  • riveter tools = Surebonder
  • stainless scrapers/putty knives = Titan Tools (made in USA)
  • extendable mirrors, magnetic pickup tools, & some hooks/picks = Ullman Devices (made in USA), also rebranded for multiple tool-truck brands
  • wood-handled & steel-handled hammers = Vaughan (made in USA)
  • older taps/dies, spade bits, hole saws = Vermont American (made in USA)
  • 2pc impact screwdriver set, and ball grip screwdrivers = Vessel (made in Japan)
  • anything with "WF" on the handle - mostly pre-2018 screwdrivers, pliers, adjustable wrenches, & punches/chisels = Western Forge (made in USA) (they stopped working with Sears in summer 2017)
  • non-Pro pry bars with strike caps, older gasket scrapers, older Ignition Pliers, & 10 in. Pipe Wrench Pliers = Wilde (made in USA)
  • Magnetic Tool Tray = Wilmar
  • bar clamps = Wolfcraft (made in Slovakia)
  • stud finders = Zircon

storage/etc:
  • garage door openers = Chamberlain
  • wheeled cooler = Coleman
  • fabric-based tool pouches/carriers = Dickies
  • some toolchests and workbenches = International
  • rolling plastic toolbox = rebranded Keter Masterloader
  • some socket storage accessories = Lisle (made in USA)
  • some socket storage accessories = Mechanic's Time Saver
  • plastic/resin/vinyl sheds = Suncast
  • metal toolboxes, most toolchests, and VersaTrack = Waterloo (some made in USA, some made in Mexico)
  • creeper seat = Whiteside (some older ones were made in USA, then switched to China)

power tools:
  • Craftsman C3 19.2v cordless = TTI (Techtronic Industries), nearly identical to some Ryobi designs
  • Craftsman Professional 20v cordless = Chervon (not Chevron as some threads have misspelled) (Nanjing Chervon Industry Co., Ltd.), a Chinese company which also makes/made some Kobalt power tools and corded Craftsman power tools
  • Craftsman Bolt-On 20v cordless = SBD (Stanley Black & Decker), nearly identical to the B&D Matrix line (and the accessory heads are interchangeable)
  • Craftsman Nextec 12v cordless = Chervon, similar to their Menards Masterforce 12v line
  • some Craftsman corded routers and rotary tools = Bosch
  • many Craftsman bench-top tools, including drill presses, table saws, band saws, and lathes = Rikon / General International
  • wet/dry vacuums = Vacmaster in recent years, Emerson (maker of Ridgid's vacs) previously
  • air-powered Craftsman ProSeries 1/2" Composite Impact Wrench = Universal Tools, a division of Florida Pneumatic (made in Taiwan)
  • older air-powered 1/2" Professional Impact Wrench = Ingersoll Rand

Are the Craftsman Industrial Flare Nut Wrenches really made by Armstrong? A few months back, I bought some of those metric NOS (New Old Stock) on Ebay from someone who said she used to work at the Arkansas Apex factory which made those Industrial Flare Nut Wrenches. We chatted a few times and she was credible, because she explained finer points of tool manufacture.

I dunno if it’s better, I wanted something that wasn’t made in China when I got it and we had one at work and it always worked reliably. I mean it works perfectly fine. I’m sure the Chinese ones are fine too but with points freecash etc. there wasn’t enough of a justifiable cost difference to even worry about it.

At the time I was looking into heat guns a couple years ago, the Harbor Freight heat guns had some reliability issues (plenty of people happy with them, but a concerning-to-me amount of reviews where something went wrong, which is not a good thing with things that get that hot). Sears no longer had the good heat guns in my area by then either (though I see that one is back in stock here now) and I had an immediate need, so I ended up deciding to make do with a high-output hairdryer (which worked fine for what I needed at the time, but doesn't get as hot).

A lot of the stuff I’ve been buying I didn’t have an immediate need for however I had weekly points for months from buying a patio set earlier this year and it’s hard to say how much longer this will go on for so as long as they’re giving deals I might as well get what I will eventually need anyway. I mean spending $30 (after points and freecash) was fair to me when I bought the heat gun.

was $12.99 during the blowout, down to $10.99 [regularly $16.99] Craftsman Black Fender Cover

That's one of the things that used to neeever go on sale other than the 5%/10%-off-everything days. I had wanted one last year but got tired of waiting for a sale, and bought the plain-black HF version instead. Get it while you still can, if you want one - I'm seeing it's still available for home shipping, but there's only a single Hometown in my radius that *might* still have any and they aren't allowing online orders for it ("call store for availability").

And speaking of things to get while you still can if you had any interest in it, the 3/8" beam torque wrench has gone to Temporarily Unavailable, but the 1/2" beam torque wrench ($12.94 sale, $30.99 reg.) is still available for home shipping, and some stores might still have it but none near me. (I think my store actually still has one last one left, if it's still there from when I was there a couple days ago, but the final one can't be ordered online.) With the 3/8" one being dead, the 1/2" one is probably on its way out soon.

They never even carried the 1/2 inch one here and apparently are out of 3/8 (they still had those a few weeks ago). I think this was a while coming though since the digital ones seem to be the big push now. Probably got bought up by people running one arm bandit oil tests on YouTube which seems to be a popular application for beam style torque wrenches.

I don't have a particular need but bought one of each anyway on sale a few months ago. Thought it seemed like a good thing to have on hand to verify clicker-wrench calibration and such. (I have a cheap clicker from HF.) No interest in the digital ones, personally.

I'm sure this has been mentioned already, but when I went to pick up some items at my Hometown store yesterday, one of the longtime employees told me they have heard some changes are on the way since Liberty is now a partner in the Hometown stores. I am usually able to go to the store, find items I want to purchase (if there are more than one) and buy it at the online price. Yesterday I wasn't able to get pickup on any of those items at that Hometown store, but i have another about an hour in the opposite direction, and was able to put items in my cart at the other store. This morning I went to purchase those items, and I get the dreaded, "items need your attention" message. All of those items now say "call store for availability." I guess my days of buying online and picking up in the hometown stores are over. The lone Sears in Ohio is about an hour away. I hope I can use all of my points before it closes!

Does anyone know about picking up items in store during store liquidation?

My local Sears is scheduled to close in February 2020. It will go into liquidation as of December 2. I have a couple of on-line orders that I want to pick up in store to save on shipping (they don't qualify for the $35 free shipping). However, if I place the order now, they won't be ready for pick up until December 5. Anyone have experience with this?

Thanks in advance

Does anyone know about picking up items in store during store liquidation?

My local Sears is scheduled to close in February 2020. It will go into liquidation as of December 2. I have a couple of on-line orders that I want to pick up in store to save on shipping (they don't qualify for the $35 free shipping). However, if I place the order now, they won't be ready for pick up until December 5. Anyone have experience with this?

Thanks in advance

Yes... I have picked up online orders at a closing store... a few days after the liquidation process had started. As long as that store still appears as a pick-up option, I would think you could do the same.

I wouldn't wait too long to pick it up, however. When I got my orders at a NJ store that was closing, Merchandise Pickup was still staffed by the same Sears employees that it had been before... but they mentioned they would be gone at the end of the week.

When someone asked about this here some time earlier in November, I remember someone replied that when their store closed, they had problems with the pickup employees doing a halfass job on their final few days of pickups. I'm sure they won't all be as bad as what that guy experienced, but IIRC the problem was he had bought multiple items in one order, and the pickup people only gave him part of the items in that order but marked all the items as picked up, and then he had to fight for a refund on the missing items.

If you want to reduce the risk while still using pickup, maybe try picking up each item separately (request one at the kiosk, let them bring it out, then request the next one) - I'd even order them separately too, if combining isn't necessary to reach a deal threshold. It would probably annoy the pickup people, but you won't be dealing with them much longer, so :dunno: . (If they ask why you're doing it that way, just say a friend had some items left out of his order, so you want to be on the safe side.) The other thing you could do is try asking chat for free home shipping - they have been helping out several people with that recently, though their generosity fluctuates unpredictably.

Thanks.

When I've picked up items at the store kiosk, there's no option for picking up one at a time.

I'll definitely try to do separate orders, but sometimes the way the offers are set up, you have to group them together.
