The sockets are pretty well picked thru here. I picked up a corded rotary tool for $32 the item 961139. Price was about half off due to clearance. They also had a tag for a Dremmel multimax for $55 (normally $100) but had none left.

My sears had the 1/2" socket holders on clearance for about $3 IIRC. For some reason the 3/8" and 1/4" were regular price at around $8 each.

went to the store by Oak Brook, Il.. they had a small picked over section marked clearance.
none of the flare nut wrenches or 3/4 drive sockets were reduced, and weren't on the computer neither. they did have (5) 3/4 ratchets reduced - $58. they will decrease in price 4/25
would you believe that store had only (5) 3/4 sockets - total?
went to Stratford Square. no clearance signs. olde guy clerk knew nothing about sale. scanned various items. not on sale - wrenches, specialty bit type sockets, and 3/4 sockets.
potluck on the sockets - not all in a line and not in any particular sequence. i got some sae and metric flexes.
this store is very well stocked

Luckily for me I was driving across NC from Asheville to the coast so I got to hit up about 3 Sears right off the highway as my "rest stops"

There is a mall in Hickory, NC that had all the 3/4 sockets but none showed up as clearance. So if someone is local they might want to keep an eye on it.

A mall in Dunham, NC right off Exit 276 on I-40 had everything marked. I pretty much killed the flex socket section but there was the 3/8 and 1/2 beam torque wrenches marked down. Gearwrench ratching both non reversible, reversible and flex were all on clearance for all sizes but someone beat me to the punch and cleared out a lot of them.

I'm going off this for my completion guide http://www.sears.com/craftsman-42-p...p-00935750000P?prdNo=2&blockNo=2&blockType=G2 and the tool list is here http://c.shld.net/assets/misc/IL35750.pdf

Who knows?
Here goes fellas,

Tried my online order, manager price override idea today. Didn't work.
The manager said they could not do it for online orders but would do it if he ordered more in for me on their internal system. The problem is, when he tried to do that the computer will not let him restock. He said there is an internal block in place that cannot be overridden.

He thinks they are probably changing the design from laser-etched to something else.
I disagree. I think they are making way for the ChiCom sockets on the way.

Too bad it didn't work but it was worth a shot.

dont bother with woodfield store either, only one 3/4 drive was on clearance and i bought it  (had them scan all the 3/4 drive stuff too) and only a handfull of 8pt 3/8 and 1/2 drive sockets were .97... got the set of 1/4 flex for half off... may return them actually as thats not a 'deal' really, im checking my box first to see what ones i have and if keeping them makes sense.

oh, and nothing 'marked' down at the store on first and harlem ave in chicago either... i didnt try having them scan anything tho

**in serious WANT/NEED of more 3/4 drive sockets tho** ...let me know if you have some to trade or sell me

Just wanted to post an recent update for those that did their shopping today. If you have sockets to trade (or sell) I am really looking for 17mm, 3/8 and 5/8, all in 3/8" FLEX drive. I would love to trade or buy from one person to save shipping, so if anyone had all 3 please PM me. Below is what I have available to trade:
**On a side note, has anyone found 10, 13,14 or 15mm 3/8" drive on clearance anywhere?

Biscuit, you might want to clarify if it is a std short chrome socket, deep or flex head that you are looking for as I saw all three on clearence plus 8 point stuff.

I think I have an extra 17mm 6-point 3/8" drive flex from the other day. $8.49 retail IIRC off memory. pn 43208 per what's on my rail-- BTW-I;m just going off what I have in my box, not the "doubles bin" in the meatloaf pan upstairs. I'll lyk.

I had noticed the clearance rack at the local sears this past sunday. Picked up 7 sockets at the .97 cents a piece, all 1/4" drive. Reading this thread made me think, why not check and see whats there today. Got 4 3/4" drive sockets, although three of em are 7/8". Probably no one interested, but I thought I'd pick em up in case anyone wanted to trade.

So, if anyone wants to trade for my 3/4" drive 7/8" USA craftsman sockets, the only other size I have is 1 1/16", so anything else would be fine. I'll pay shipping both ways, at the .97 cents purchase price it would still be a deal for me.

Thank you. I clarified my original post. I am looking for flex drive sockets.

Omg... Someone trying to make a profit!!!!!! Oohhh the horror!!!
Some people don't have a sears near them or the time and patience to go from store to store looking. They are still getting a better price than retail and if they don't like the price they dont have to buy them. Everyones time is worth something.

are the sets on sale or clearance too>>???

The 7 piece flex socket sets were on sale and were around $30 at my store. Its funny the lady at the counter saw all the flex sockets I put on the counter and she said "We have complete sets of these on sale if you would like to save some money". I laughed and said these are a buck a piece and the sockets in the set is about 4 bucks each.

They were full sets I did not get them individualy. I paid 29.20 per set with tax. Shipping would be $5.15. So that would be $34.35. So I am looking to make a whole $5 just for my time and I did drive to sears, and we all know gas is over 3.50.
They retail at around $55.

No it's the irony and human nature that is funny

when the original posts about the deal at Sears people were ecstatic and when they went to Sears and found someone was ahead of them and scooped them up, they were bemoaning the fact that some @ss was probably selling them at a swap meet etc.

Most people jumped on that bandwagon of slagging off at them

then as more posts came, posters on here excitidly proclaimed how they scooped up all the remaining sockets

and now to see ebay being swamped with the sockets

reminds me of George Orwells Animal Farm :lol_hitti

The Federal Way Sears at the Commons has a lot of these sockets but they are not marked. Had the cashier scan several of the swivel sockets listed above. Out of eight six of them rang up $.97.

I checked Ashland Ky sears this morning and the lady there said all the stuff went on sale this morning, and that a guy had came in and bought ever single item on clearance and that his total was almost $175 because they had restocked last night.

I didn't see anyone point this out in the thread yet, but the most hilarious part of this whole exercise is how unorganized, uninformed and inconsistent each of the Sears stores are in this clearance. Some have great big signs and the items were scooped up immediately. Some don't have any of the items marked (or pulled) and the clerks don't know (even though the computer is ringing them at $0.97).

It's not like this is complicated. I worked in training for a restaurant chain with 450 stores and when we would change and item it was laid out very clearly: 1. stop ordering the item 2. pull all of the item by x date 3. change menu board by opening on x date . . .etc.

The fact that they can't get every store to pull 2 dozen discontinued sockets, tag them and put them on the clearance rack (this whole process should take one clerk 1 hour) is more data about why Sears is struggling.:willy_nil
