I just purchased an 8 inch bench grinder and would like to know if there is a pedestal I could mount it to with out securing the pedestal to the floor.

Got a welder? My bench bench grinder stand is just two pieces of plate with a piece of pipe between them. It's not bolted down and does fine. I stand on the bottom plate if I really need to get into it.

I bolted my grinder to a piece of channel and clamp it in my vise when I need it, store it when I don't.

I took an old brake drum, a piece of 3" square tube, and a couple of pieces of flat stock to make mine. Been working fine for about 40 years.

I believe Harbor Freight sells one, as does Rockler... the Rockler one (it's a Rikon and likely available elsewhere) if I recall is better, definitely doesn't need securing to the floor as far as I remember but I could be wrong....

Rockler http://http://www.rockler.com/rikon-80-910-universal-grinder-stand

If you go to the HF site they actually sell 2 "bench grinder stand" is what I searched for

Or, you could always build something out of 2x4's or plywood or both... I'm sure there are some YouTube videos on exactly that...

I have my 8" grinder on the Harbor Freight stand.

https://www.harborfreight.com/universal-bench-grinder-stand-3184.html

Four legs, a tray half way up and it's reasonably stable. Nothing special but for $30 it hardly seems worthwhile to fab one up.

I have a few of those and I like them much better than post stands. Surprisingly stable, and that shelf is a handy feature: if the grinder is too lightweight, you add some mass to the shelf, ie a box of chain.

unless you have the material (scrap) laying around, and a welder handy, the cheapest alternative would be one of the HF stands.

i have 2 or 3 of them in the garage & basement for various tools.

my grinder stand was made from scrap i already had, a drive sprocket from a compact track loader, some scrap 3/16" plate, and the drive tube from a street sweeper...

it took longer to paint that it did to weld together.

Do you have a link to that thread? I've been searching for that exact topic with not much success...

Made this one for my 6" Baldor grinder many years ago. It is just a 2" pipe, some angles and scrap pieces of railings that were on hand. The storage area provides some ballast for stability.

I bought one at TSC, paid about $50, that is like the one HF now carries. I put locking casters on it to move around easier in my garage. Works fine.

I have found if you throw one of the rubber mats under the stand it will help with vibration and keep it from walking around. I have several mats in front of my benches that I got from Menards.

Old rubber mud flap from a large truck also works good. For some reason, I seem to have a few that never get tossed out.

My 8" is on the leg from a restaurant table. It has 4 feet with adjusters and I welded a piece of 3/8" plate to the top to match the grinder. Super stable and portable.
