Husband wants to build a metal home and garage. Can we put the sheathing on The inside of the studs and not use drywall. Is this doable.

Dont share too many details

What do you mean by sheathing, and inside the studs? Location? Have you talked to a builder? Architect?

Metal , house wrap, studs, insulation, sheathing. So the sheathing would be on the inside of the house side.

You can put what ever you want on the inside of the building, you just have make sure the sheathing lines up with the building framing; if it does not you have a few different options for making it work.

What, specifically is "sheathing"? It is a vague term. It is like calling a Buick a car and trying to get specific information.

Not 100% true.... Drywall provides burn resistance and may be required by either your governing body or your insurance company. That said if you are looking at building/ living in a metal building these may not apply to you.

exactly. what is it you have in mind? the one to the left is sheathing in my mind. I am also assuing you are talking about some type of hard board, not plastic/vinyl wrap

Are you getting us into the middle of a martial dispute?
I was going to suggest that you put "him" in the discussion. 😆
Terminology is important, is a steel building steel framed? Or is it a wood framed building with only a steel exterior?
Sure you can put sheathing (that I'm pretty sure you mean 4x8 sheets of OSB or plywood), but you'll need girts (some call them purlins) on the exterior wall horizontally to support and attach the exterior metal to. But this brings us back to your definition of a "steel building".

I'm not sure what a bot is, but what's the likelihood of this poster "liking" several of my posts on a different thread but same topic?

If I'm reading correctly, this is what I typically refer to as a barndominium. Regardless if you use standard framing or steel framing you can pretty much do whatever you want on the interior.

I wouldn't build a house and do plywood or OSB for interior sheathing. I doubt it will meet you local codes or inspection if you have any.

However, for a small vacation cabin or suite in a post frame while building the main residence, yeah, I'd do it.

Drywall in the garage is code in my area. We might have been able to put OSB over the drywall for convenience, dunno.
