I think there's a cliché about can't fix electrical issues with a hammer. I don't believe it for a minute. Beat the thing until your arms are tired, you'll feel better. Okay, maybe that's not fixing it. But still, you'll feel better.

thought I’d try out my new planer. I had a brain fart this morning. I don’t have a mill and they say you can use wood tools on aluminum so I thought I’d tried it. 6C165C43-6FED-4583-AE73-C52987FD090D.jpeg

Around 10:00 I had to check the heatometer. 88°, 78% humidity. Felt like 98° and 100% humidity. Fanny Mae wasn’t happy so AC time 341ED5DA-4B11-40A1-A970-2C62F72C80C7.jpeg
Changed oil in the bosses car.
Threw some brackets in some Evaporust. while that percolated, I decided to work on my service cart. First up, the top bay. Some tweaking and I ended up with a lot better layout. 403EE1FA-2B38-4194-B8B8-B8B1E070AE13.jpegOne item removed was a hanger. It’s been sitting there for several years. I picked up an extra magnetic strip. Checking the underside of lathe, the existing bolt holes were a near perfect match. A little die grinding to lengthen the strip’s holes, perfect. 55EED8FD-D55E-4720-A2E6-D2B46AD26806.jpeg
I brought a metal/wood cutter for mult-tool to trim out the shelves on orange cabinet. Cut but sooooo slow so I followed Craig’s lead. Pop shelves out and will use angle. C1426D68-3C3C-4FC6-A0BF-48AB7186549B.jpeg

A little more chipping a way. Who remembers the surprise tote of casters? Was able to get 5-1/2 sets. The rest were the smooth post style. I did rob half a dozen wheels from those.

Also had a surprise set of casters that had a couple of bent frames and I had some good frames so…

Last up was fabbing up the brac for the orange cab. Just what happens when you don’t layout things correctly and a band saw is involved.

Today, more progress on the orange welding bench. Bolted on the 4 mounting points for the top. Also got to try out the newly made vise mount 9E425268-C33F-4CDB-9F9D-E38C137A302A.jpeg
Finished attaching the rest of the drawer handles and the hook for some ear muffs and face shield. I’ll show why the hook is so low next week.

Maybe a lip added to the wrench shelf so you don't lose the wrenches inside the drawer when you roll the cabinet around ?

On to a second drawer. Fabbed up some custom hangers out of scrap. Vise brake in action. 6766235C-089A-4C6B-AF30-5CB620428FF4.jpeg
the finished hangers. 1FDEE000-8D88-44B5-BBBD-DA19F4D01D7D.jpegWith some backing plates. 855DD218-C7A6-42D7-AB04-79D6809B3C76.jpeg
and the finished product.

I still have two more drawers. One will be a duplicate to the first so all the grinders are in one place. Last drawer will be for F clamps and “can’t twist” clamps.
Looking forward to getting this functionality done.

You are knocking stuff out at lightening speed Shorty... Hard for me to keep up. that orange cabinet is shaping up nicely and looking forward to seeing the end product.

Who would have thought you could plane aluminum in a wood planer... that was pretty bold. But it looks like it worked perfectly.

That’s a nice job on your welding cabinet. I like the storage ideas and the vertical drawers.

Jay

The cabinet looks great, very well laid out.

Thanks guys.

I think it’s 1V lightning but it’s lightning. Hopefully this coming weekend I’ll have it functionally completed.

Oh yeah, milled it smooth 🤪

More progress on the welding bench. Got this back from waterjet place Monday FC74529A-731E-4B34-AC86-AE175E38CA4D.jpeg
Did you know there’s 1.9 inches in a 5/8 hole? That ends up being a lot of inches at $4/in.
Last night was spent laying out and drilling the four mounting holes. Took right at 2 hrs. using my 20v cordless. WTF!
BF968131-6BD3-43CC-98A6-D63193B9A0FA.jpegWith the top mounted in place found out my hole grid wasn’t the best. 3 of the 4 mounts were under a hole.
841F23B1-1F68-4722-90E3-464564DE2770.jpegFixing this contributed to the 2 hrs of work.

Took the top off so I could weld hinges for the side wing. Thankfully the loft crane was able to handle putting the top back on the cabinet.

Today I decided it might be best to finally fasten the work bench top to the Lista cabinet it’s sitting on. The same process was used to drill the four holes necessary but I used an old *** corded drill. 066DB69B-98C9-4DB3-A248-30FF5EE22A40.jpeg
This time had all four done in under 30 minutes. Same bits from yesterday, just different drill. Top securely fastened. 0ADF5298-A998-4C18-B23E-9DB8450A80D5.jpegWith top fixed, it was nice doing the next project without worrying if top would move.

I was going to add a hanging rack in back of weld bench but opted for this simple fix on the clamp cart. 71987D79-151C-4A1D-AB7B-B766D0C179CB.jpeg
