Above 1200 Sq/FT Shorty's Shed

Sunday was spent in the State Emergency Ops Center providing GIS data for the hurricane recovery effort. My first time being involved in this since 2006 when I was part of the air recon team.
We were very lucky with the hurricane staying off shore a bit. Recovery has gone pretty smooth with roads and power being restored a lot quicker than what happen here in Tallahassee last month.

While discussing Gerard's new shop layout with Gerard and Craig, I had a brainstorm or maybe a little seepage of intelligence. I have an empty Equipto tool cabinet that I was going to sell (on left). I've decided to replace my HF44 for this 10 dr. tool cabinet. This tool cabinet is 36" wide, 30" deep and 59" tall. I think I will be able to get all the hand tools (that's not in the service cart) along with the various diagnostic and speciality tools (like they do me any good) into this cabinet. Another opportunity to go vertical.

Craig found me a handle kit from Vidmar for a good price so that will solve the missing pull handle problem. With these handles, the Equipto will resemble the Vidmar (on right)

The HF44 needs two of the narrow drawers replaced and Gerard found me a set. Of course I have the older matte finish tool box and the drawers are the new gloss finish. I guess another paint project added to the list won't be a problem.

I thought we renamed your shop Shortys Shed of Shop Squirters. [emoji23]. I'll agree with Craig that as long as you aren't bleeding or there's beer spillage there others can be fixed. That handle came out pretty slick. That's giving me a idea about something. [emoji1303]. I think new cabinet is going to work out real nice. Those drawers can handle so much more than the HF 44. Hey, I got a idea. With the small drawers on the HF44. Since really you only need the front to match I believe they sell the wrinkle paint. It might not be red but if you can get wrinkle finish on the front right you can repaint other drawers or match the old red.

Not much to report. More confused.

I decided to look at the leaky lift. I pulled the car up, hit the up button for a little and with a flashlight watched for the leak. Nothing. Lift some more, no leak. Um? To duplicate the last adventure, I pulled car in and lifted it. Looking, looking, looking and nothing. I decided to take the car up to the first lock position. Still no leaks. Ok, let's go to the top position. Again, no leaks and the car maintains side to side level.

Though still low for me even sitting, it is a nice view from underneath. Hopefully the leak is a memory. I still want to do some upgrades; like get a longer hose so it is routed over the top and replace the fittings with some better grade fittings.

Heck, I might even get that left wall finished and the right side painted.

Another task for the weekend was to finally clean out/detail the inside of my Tahoe. Boy it looks better. Yay!

While cleaning the glass, I discovered a loose rear side glass. I'm wondering if this is part of my leak reported earlier. Trying to find some information on pulling and reinstalling this particular glass is like trying to find info for a Yugo. Another project or expense added to the long list.

Last but not least, some air brushing. Since my shop procrastination has gotten in the way of my air brushing set up procrastination, I thought I would try a little digital air brushing (mouse) using SketchPad. Not bad for a 10 footer.

Shorty that might be bolted in and use a liquid sealer or butyl. It reminds me of rear window of a pick up truck. It was bolted it and it used this think butyl rope when compressed made window water tight.

Those o rings have a way of fixing them selves. Just look at the space shuttle Challenger. That is a permanent fix for sure. You may be good to go, or may be not? Be safe!

What color scheme are you going with on your box?

While the Mrs. was off sunning on a beautiful Florida beach with her sister, I decided to start on the Equipto rehab. First order of business is casters. The base already had holes punched for carriage bolts. No welding. Yay! I was also able to repurpose the casters that came off the first cabinet dolly. Score. They even had the right color overspray.

I was thinking spray bed liner like I used on the bottom of plumbing box. I have a couple of rolls of tool box liners that probably aren't wide enough. I also have a yoga mat I'm going to try.
Yes handles are on the way. Hopefully they will be here Friday so I can install them this weekend.

Thank you. The handle isn't overly pretty but was easy to make, works great and I got to use the new to me conduit bender.

The loft area is a work in progress. I'd like to get it enclosed by next summer so I have a place to eat lunch and cool off. Unlike some of us, the longer my to-do gets, the slower I work.

My Gen Set came with the wheel kit but yours looks pretty good.
I hear you on getting it enclosed. Some times the slower you work you come up with better solutions.

Not much to report. I had a 50 gal. Hot water tank that came with my shop (the illegal loft apt.). I did use it on occasion to take a shower at the shop. The problem with it was I'd leave it off then turn it on if I was going to use. I never knew if I'd need the shower and instead of waiting for 50 gals. to heat, I'd just go home.
Well my mom's 36 yr. old water heater stopped working so instead of her buying a new, one I offered her my like new one. Easy swap, but I did have to build a short platform for the new tank. Hey a shop, tools at the ready and a little bit of skills, bam! One platform.
I will get a small electric on-demand heater that mounts on the wall. Yay, more floor space for more tools and stuff.

Sorry Dan, I winter in Grande Prairie, Alberta so Maine is kinda out of my way. My brother-in-law lives in Maine and he says the same thing about winter up there when he comes to Florida in January.

Had a really great weekend. The weather was perfect for a road trip. Friday, I put on my "Got Freedom" shirt (on back Compliments of US Armed Forces), picked up Mom and headed to Lake City FL. We met my niece and Mom rode with her to my brothers. I headed south to Lakeland for Autofest. Nice location for a car show and swap meet. Not as big as I'm use to but a great way to spend a few hours.
The next day I met Gerard at Flywheelers. If you haven't been and like old tools, tractors, cars or buildings then this is a must see. Then even had a collect that Bob would go plumb crazy over.

I also picked up some goodies. Craig went to an estate sale just north of Gerard house and picked some stuff for us. He met Gerard for lunch and transfer my stuff over to Gerard to give to me. Gerard had a couple of freebie items I wanted (thank you) and this, project 1049 on the Shorty Shed project list. It's the now famous vintage Craftsman DP. Since it won't fit in his new plan and I need a better DP until the Royal 18 is restored, I brought his. I assumed it would be painted by now.

As soon as I finish the current projects; 2, 10, 98, 532 and 1021, I'll jump right on this.

Shorty, if you seriously would consider a road trip, I seriously will pay you well to get the WOC to me. I know Gerard wants the space and I don't know for sure when I'll have the time to get down there. I'm actually looking into hiring a transport company to get them here.
