Shorty, I was just trying to help you from being exhausted again with the lights. Being the redneck you are, just unplug them and plug back in when you build stairs next Christmas.

And thanks, you do make some of us look good in the time it takes to finish projects:D

Shorty,

Just in case you were following the postings...

Your there too. Reading along made the days better and for that I am in your debt.

So...
I know that I haven't been posting lately but I wanted to let you know that during the time we were in the ICU your thread, among others, help pass the time. Just thought a thank you was in order.

Cheers,
Chris

Just wanted to thank you for sending the addition to my wall. I did not have a plate from Georgia, so that is very cool.
I hope I'll be meeting up with you guys in the next couple of months.

Hey old boy! Just spent a hour going through your whole thread.

I'm actually a forklift mechanic, and i work for Toyota (we own Raymond) so i work on busted up buckets of **** like that prime mover nearly daily. Have you got it sorted out yet? Or are you not going to bother due to getting the Maxjax?

If you still want to fix it, or if its not fixed yet, PM me, I'll try and go through some information/diagnostics on it with you... key word there is TRY.... I should be able to find a workshop manual for one at work somewhere, but those prime movers are ancient, i used to work on them when i was a apprentice ( over 10 years ago) but now, at least here in Sydney, we have none left in our fleet!! I haven't worked on a prime mover in years!

50% of the time, problems on electric forklifts end up being battery problems, if its flat, or old, and has dead cells, they will throw every code under the sun into a forklift.
The first thing id be doing is load testing that battery.

Oh, we were talking about your garage weren't we?

Looking forward to the updates on the shop, I like the original owners concept, that would be the dream, buy a warehouse space, convert upstairs to living quarters, and have a mad workshop underneath, I asked my wife what she thought of the idea and she laughed at me, said "you want to live there alone?" hmmm its sounding better and better!

Rudi.

Thank you Rudi for taking the time to read my thread and big thank for your offer with the Prime Mover.

This is a 2004 model which I didn't think was ancient until I did some post purchase history research. Yes the circuit boards used to monitor and control all the safety stuff makes it quite involved. When I get home, I will PM you the details.

"Barndominiums"... Never heard that one before, but thanks for introducing me to the term .

I like all the outdoor covered areas you are trying to design in. I use my porch all the time for those messy jobs that a leaf blower can simply make disappear when finished. Have fun with the planning... it can sometimes be the most enjoyable part of a new place (well, until you move in anyways! :) )

Thanks Mark. Barndomimums, along with tiny homes, seem to be the hot thing. Texas sounds like the capital of barndomimums right now.

As a failed (derailed) student of architecture, I do love the design process. After 20 or so floor plans, I arrived at the plan I think is perfect for our needs. If the place comes to fruition, I'll definitely let you design my shop area. heck, I'll even let you park that Vette in there. ;)

Yep.... we resemble that remark! [emoji3]

Nice looking plan you have there Shorty! Looking forward to see the build.

I am joining the Barndominium crowd officially next week as my project finally gets underway. My in laws will be the initial inhabitants until I can retire. It's been a long time to get to this point.

Great to hear Duker. Will you be starting a new build thread?

I started one but there is not much in it as it is basically just the preamble to get to this point. There are some pictures of the property and the first set of plans (which I have had to modify since that time) and a few other extraneous items.

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=326389

Hopefully, there will actually be some "build" pics soon.

Well, when will it be shop time? Last few weekends have been filled with everything but shop time. Flyerwheelers, Moultrie Swap Meet, Thanksgiving, Honey-do's, and then the beach. I guess three QWT (quality wife time) weekends are equal to two "About Me" weekends.

Hearing about the approaching cold and snow, the Mrs. and I thought we would go see the best Florida snow in Florida, the panhandle beaches. White as freshly fallen snow. A very relaxing weekend. :)

Thank you all for taking the time to follow along with my slow progress. It is you that keeps me motivated and makes me want to do the best job I can. This Christmas, I hope you are able to spend time with your loved ones, even if it is just in spirit. Merry Christmas to a great group that I now call my friends!!!

Cros13, here is the tag for my order picker and the manuals I have. Thanks for looking into this.

Side note: looking at this the ill fated battery pack is more like 1500 lbs plus not the 770 like first thought. Ouch.:shocking:

I took several days off last week to get the SL clear coat sanded off. So I didn't repeat the mess from sanding the hood and cutting the concrete, a curtain was in order.

I had purchased the cable probably year ago but we know how fast my projects move. I needed hooks/eyelets and a turnbuckle so off to my hardware stash. The eyelets were to big for the cable ends so I had to purchase something smaller. I had some turnbuckles (one on right) but none with an open end so the cut-off tool was put into use. Had I been thinking or mocked everything up, I would have purchased screw-in hooks not eyelets. (no comments from the peanut gallery ).

Once installed the turnbuckle was shorten to its limit. It would have been fine (b.g.j.) but I wanted to be able to tighten the turnbuckle as the cable stretched. Yes, I could have easily shorted the cable but noooooooo.

Off to the store again to get the turnbuckle on the left. It barely fit but I got it installed. Some shower hooks from the dollar store and a HF tarp, I was in business.

Another quickie project was replacing my work area/desk in the office/tool room. If you remember I had a counter with a SS top. It was suited to hold office supplies, owner manuals and receipts so I wanted something different.

I had some short filing cabinets from a bank that was used to hold my side grinders, small clamps, drills and portable band saw. I decided they would be better utilized in the office so out came everything and the cabinets moved to the office.

I needed an angle bracket to hold one end of the desk top so off to the scrap pile. A quick layout and fast work with the electric shear and a shrinking hammer, I have my bracket.

I had a piece of the original loft floor that was about the right size and a piece of glass that fit so that became the temporary desk top. I need to decide if I will build a top or use a hollow core door.
Now I have a comfortable place to eat lunch, relax, and store office supplies.

The short Lista tool cabinet (for hardware) goes out to the shop. I will probably move one of the tall tool cabinets to shop to house the drills and other tools.

Nice work. After viewing the turn buckles, I wondered if your handle is pronounced "shorty cordy"? I'm trying to learn here.

Great to be able to do projects from the scrap pile! That's my kind:thumbup: of work!

After numerous distractions (ADHD), it was sanding time. The SL looks like it got a cheap paint job after a fender bender or two. The clear was separating from various spots, especially the hood. We want to sell the car and I don't want to depend on another cheapo job or spend $1000+ on a paint job so I decided to ensure the bad clear was removed. When it comes time to paint, I have a friend who does some painting, I will spray it :shocking: or take it to a shop.

After two partial days of sanding I have all the metal sanded. When I did the hood, I think I used 60 gr. and would get down to metal pretty easily. I'm using 80 gr. and that is giving me good control. The clear is thick but the color is thin so it's hit or miss if sand through the color. I still need to do the plastic bumpers and side body molding. I think the roof is original and looks good so may not do much with that.

I just realize that this will be my second vehicle I prepped for paint. First was also a red two seater import (Toyota). In the future, me thinks if it doesn't have Corvette flags on it, walk away.

Stewart, I would suggest using a heat gun and scraper to remove the paint from the bumpers. It's real easy to gouge the urethane with a sander.

If you decide to do the paint yourself or have a friend do it, check out Southern Polyurethanes Inc. (SPI) in Georgia. They sell a fantastic line of automotive paint products that are perfect for hobbyists and cost a whole lot less than the name brands. The owner of the business answers the help line and spends an inordinate amount of time helping customers. If no one sells SPI in your neighborhood, they ship 2nd day for free (I suspect your location would be overnight).

Thanks for the tip Bob. Didn't think of heat gun. On this project it probably a good technique. I've seen videos where they DA it with 80-220. I worried the DA would eat the plastic if not careful. This car has a lot of ridges and contours so heat gun will be great.
I emailed SPI about best product for my project and they responded right back. I place an order Tuesday.

Stewart, I'll apologize in advance for the link to SPI. It's more of a bear den than a rabbit hole but I buy their stuff and subscribe to their forum because it's so much like Garage Journal. Have yet to get a bad piece of advice on there.

I don't envy you on all that sanding. I am trying to avoid bodywork as much as possible right now even though I should be working on the doors for my truck. Are you going to spray it the same color?

That looks like a nice quiet office space. Been looking at a lot of cabinet GJ pics (via Google search) lately and all the blues ones just seem to pop out nicely.

Have fun painting the car. :3gears:

Cheers GB.
