It's been awhile since but not much to report shop wise. We did have some severe rain and window plus a strong probability of a tornado. This house lost 10 trees today. 4 cars in this complex got hit and I saw 4 others near by. Scary part, it's about 100 ft. From our house. Electric company stated about 30,000 without power. If you remember our ordeal with Hurricane Hermine, it's about the same. Yes I'm on generator power right now but thankful no damage.

Shorty, good to hear you guys are OK. Good thing you were smart enough to have a generator. It has been on our list of "Necessary House Upgrades" since we were without power for 10 days back in '09. Hope they get you back up quickly.

Cheers,
Chris

Thank you all. I'll definitely take several nights on generator versus a tree through the roof or on the car. The individuals with the damaged cars are seniors and probably fixed income. Hard to replace a paid off car.

Well, after the holidays, a two day stint in the hospital, two days for discharge plumbing prep and pics, I finally got some shop time. Hospital visit was to ensure ticker was ok. All was positive.

I returned to sanding the SL. I have most of it done. I need to do the mirrors and up against some edges. The letters came off easily with a heat gun. The logo not to much since it had prongs. Oh well, I have another I think. After thats done, I will hit it with 320 or 400 to prep for the primer.

Last weekend a friend and I went to Flywheelers. A great day, a lot of tractors, creativity and tools. Didn't buy very much but did get some good smalls.

Since I was in the area, Craig (CBacres) and Gerard (Tarmac) met me at the local Hooters for cold beverages and BS. We also exchanged items picked up by each other. GJ network is a great way to buy stuff that's not in your area. :rocker:

I got a big hammer :D from Gerard and a vintage bottle jack. Craig had got me a disc sander combo at a sale close to him and I got this mystery package. :headscrat

I think Gerard and Craig are twins or I'm just a big sucker. If you remember, I got a Craftsman DP from Gerard back in November. The one that was assembled in all the pictures he posted. When I got it it was in pieces. :wtf: I asked Craig to pick up this floor model disc sander. Looked great in the pictures. He even sent a video of it running. I met him to pick it up and like the DP, its in pieces. :wtf:

To be fair, it had to be disassemble for transport. With the bad storm was rocking Tallahassee and my wife hiding in the closet fearing of a tornado, I was at the shop cleaning my new tools. :D I also cleaned up the adjustable on the EXL wheel. I sure do like that EXL wheel.

Another quick project I messed with Sunday was the welding cart. Some time back I put changed out a poorly fabbed stand for a tool box on the welding cart. I love the cart but not as a welding cart plus influences from GJ, I wanted something different. Last summer I was able to get the metal and plastic AV carts. Since the metal AV cart had to be cut down, I decided to use the plastic AV cart. Still not completely happy but it would be a good cart. This fall I picked up four lunch tray carts with the intent of using the one I wanted as a cart for cutoffs. Guess what, I also got a new welding cart out of the deal. Looking at this last cart, I decided this is the welding cart. Still have some more work, but I like it.
3 different cart designs in 6 months. :D. I think my ADHD stands for Always Distracted Hardly Done. :(

Friday, was spent cleaning up the shop some and getting a visit from Craig CBacres. He received the grade A showing of Shortys shambled shed of stuff. Not sure why he kept an eye on the battery pack. :headscrat After a couple of cold ones and swapping of tools, he headed south.

Saturday I went to scout the swap meet for super sales on stuff I didn't know I needed. A lot of tools, car parts and nice rides to take a gander at.

Today I went to watch FSU crush Clemson, 109-61. Very enjoyable after watching to many games turn against FSU in the last two minutes. After the game, fellow Tallahassee GJ member JimReed2160, invited me over. He said to bring my planes and he'd show me how to sharpen and adjust them. A great teacher and he had me shaving thin ribbons of wood. I learned a lot today. Thank you Jim!!!!

I'm glad I finally made it by, enjoyed the visit and thanks for the refreshments.

Now I know how you were able to manuver, side step, bend and twist so well in my clogged up shop.:D

It's always a joy to visit you all in your shops.

I wish I could of stayed and gone to the swap meet with you.

Oh man, reading through the things you do reflects how much I got to catch up. Still got pages to reread, revisit.

Thank you taking the time to check out my shop. No where near where I thought I'd be after 5 yrs but between procrastination, wrestling battery boxes and A.D.D. I'm doing ok.

Man, you better get it in order, the Gerarding dude is coming by, you know him and his standards. Are all your drawers the same?:lol_hitti

At least he'll get to see something he rarely gets to see, a painted box!

And you have to make room for some more.

Ok, where was I? Oh the battery box. Actually it is store against the wall, out of the way. It's been just over a year for that ordeal and I'm glad to report that all is healed. Thumbnail is wonky but is there so thats good. The large L shape scare on the leg is a ready reminder that I was "L"ucky.

So on with the show. In February, I met Craptain (Andrew) and CBAcres (Craig) at the Florida Flywheeler event. Craig had an old telephone switch gear ladder for me so that was the first project that I worked on. The ladder is kinda like a library ladder but it mounts to a ceiling track and can rotate 360 degrees.

I have been using a stair/ladder built from a 2x12x13' window header. Strong but heavy. I also have a 28' extension ladder that found a home in front of the stairs. First step was to get the wood stair ladder down and pulled apart. Nail bed anybody? For the new ladder, I installed a hook into the bridge to hold the top of the ladder. A board as wheel chock, project done. I really like the ladder, especially the heritage.

Now I have a 28' ladder and two 13' (2x12) boards I have to deal with. I didn't feel like storing them in the loft areas since I really, really need to organize the lofts. Looking at different spots and ideas, I decided the bridge would be a great spot. A couple of 2x4's in each open area and the ladder and boards are stored. Picture is before deciding to put the boards there.

If anyone is in need of a bunch of 2x12x24" threads, call me. :headscrat

I haven't really spend much time in the shop. March brings beautiful weather but also brings in pollinating Oaks. That being the case, it's been more house cleaning more than anything. I had some used magnetic label holders so decide to id the drawers on the service cart and the now in use Equipto cabinet. Sure makes live easier. I will go back with something more permanent later.
My apologies for the fantastic photography.

If you remember a month or two ago, I moved some file drawers into the office to make a desk. All the stuff that was stored in these cabinets ended up on the work bench. Time to clean that area up. The power tools went to one of the tool cabinets in the office, clamps went on the future clamp rack and I cleanup a grease set of garage sale swivel sockets and put them in the proper place.

My DP sits on my old drafting cabinet and I have stuff cluttered on it. Brain fart and some nails fixed that rather quickly. I also found this vise in the cabinet and decided it would hold work better than my hand. I had to use the die grinder to remove some of the casting flash from the mounting holes. Finally I can clamp things down quickly and safely.

The one project I did work on was this board for the Mrs. The one pictured is the inspiration I copied. I doubt she will be using the tablet option but it is there.

In between coats of sealer, I did more small jobs. Since the shop is getting gerarded, I had to move a cabinet that was sitting on one of the tool cabinets. This cabinet was the same width as the microwave stand so what better place. Wish I had done this a year ago.

Also built this precision made tool holder. I was tired of the bubble pack they were sitting in.

Continuing with the clean up, I've had this upper cabinet sitting on the order picker for months. It was to big to use as-is so I decided to pull it apart and use the wood for what I have in mind. Final getting this thing out of the way made me feel a lot better. From cabinet to pile to stored in the rafters.

Since I mentioned being gerarded, here is the area of focus. The FC President is due to inspect the shop the end of next month so I have to get in ship shape. :wtf:
With this area being priority one to be cleaned up, I will hopefully free up a lot of space and will be able to walk around in the shop. We will see.

While out the Flywheelers event, I picked up several Garland style hammers. I wanted some lead and aluminum inserts. There was a piece of aluminum round stock in the big hammer which I initially cut in two. It wasn't exactly right so I decide the big hammer would get the lead and I would have a friend turn the aluminum down to fit the smaller hammer. An hour later, I have inserts. The small hammer came with rawhide inserts so I have that option also.
