Saturday started, ah actually didn’t start because of a corroded ground. 6d4ffafc8c5fcbcdcb163ad18cc7b9fb.jpg I didn’t realize copper rusted. Cutting back the cable, more corrosion was to be found. I guess after 20 yrs, this is to be expected. 7bd226193dad42045f483401a06d26cf.jpg
Tahoe needed an oil change so after the cable fix, she went on the lift. It was nice being able to plug the pump into new outlet and operate the lift from the side. With the truck lifted, I noticed the arm locks weren’t engaged. 48579a74323d69c8e7ad355aa69f50a1.jpg Guess no QC at the factory. A quick adjustment had them aligned.
I received a “free” oil drain with lift so tried using it for the first time. Unfortunately it’s for a regular lift. This is at its lowest78c678202c8b94ea470b391ad1e92834.jpg taking 6” off the top tube solved that problem. e5e9aadd5e5049e69dc7b0b1345ff31c.jpg I was debating how to cut the tube and remember I have a nice bandsaw now. [emoji16] it was nice not rolling around on a creeper to do the oil change. I also verified that the idler arm was bad (Monday did alignment shop visit) and used the newly connected hose reel to check tires...while standing. [emoji3]
Another project I’ve been wanting to measure for is high jack stands. 0793bfabf04a22a9d05c47c2a378ad06.jpg The bases and post are from the GM plant in Atlanta, the Y with screw came from a swap meet find.
This past week was productive. The first 4 days of tasked are complete and I ran a lot of errands so all is good....except tomorrow isn’t Saturday.

You know, just because you're shorty, didn't mean had had to buy the short lift:lol_hitti
Sitting under is still better than laying on the back.

Hmm, is that a bandaid on your finger?
Your not sharing all of your adventures in the shop?:lol_hitti:lol_hitti

Nice to have stuff functional.

Nice to have stuff functional.

Better than the short bus.

And I also wondered about holding out on shop adventures.

You're an evil man, teasing us with pictures of bandaged mayhem and not sharing the details. And I'm totally jealous of the lift.

Yes, more functional is good. Bandaid isn’t a shop adventure. : p

Well this week didn’t “start” out very well. Jumped in the Tahoe Monday morning for work and ****, same intermittent starting problem. Seemed like low battery so tried charge/boost with no luck. I decided to ride bike to shop to get the SL. Of course it’s all up hill. I replaced the negative cable but still no luck so drove SL to work.
With rain and work I didn’t get to mess with battery until Friday. I charged the battery (relatively new) and truck still didn’t start so took it back to NAPA. The put it on their testor and it showed needing a charge but good. Errrr!
Went to the shop and got one of the order picker batteries and some side terminal adapters. Still no luck getting truck started. Also shot some starting fluid as a boost. This isn’t looking good.

I put the charger on the picker battery and decided to drive the SL to the junk yard and the shop. After stopping for a Dr.P, I jumped in the car and it won’t go in gear. WTF? Now I’m really having a $41@&%# day. Thankfully the tow truck driver had a jack, saw the shift rod bushing gone so he put the car in drive so I could make it back to the shop.
fa46187c2fbf6ef4f94cf7f972ba67da.jpg
Sure enough, shift rod is just hanging there. Not wanting to wait for a bushing to arrive via snail mail, ummm...I have a lathe. A search of the parts bin and I have the start of a shift bushing. 3ce43c7303be0bcb3a52fc868a31dbee.jpg
When I got home, I tried starting the truck, cranked right up. Guess it needed a long charge. I still want to change out the positive cables to ensure the best connection.
To my fellow veterans, I salute you and your service.

It's nice when you have the right tools to fix things. And I have the day off due to our military folks, so thank you in more ways than one.

Today boys and girls, we will teach how to move forward and go nowhere. Can you say, “frizzle sticks”? Sure you can.
dc644518a13b9a782c24c366c67e09fb.jpg
Had to change out my clamping fixture so I could part off my bushing. This little part has been a great lathe learning experience. beee1cc19b5fd1d0c8ece5fffe37e0b4.jpg this is the bushing installed in the shift lever. E-clips wouldn’t fit the shift linkage so called the Benz dealership. Yay! They had the clip and I sprang for the factory bushing ($5). d0ae9e3a1a45bf51aef9700eb0287fda.jpg
I chose not to use my bushing because of the side play that would result. 1e35a3885f73c58541c1bada0c92a458.jpg
I got the shift bracket installed, lowered the car, turned the ignition switch and nothing. Did I mention going nowhere?
I know the battery got ran down since car was still in drive, locking key in ignition. Didn’t realize this until later. Hopefully the battery will comeback and it’s not a safety switch or similar issue.
Tahoe is still not starting. Except for the one time Saturday evening, I’m at a loss.

I hate those days when both daily drivers are down. I would definitely replace the cables on the Tahoe. I just had the same problem on my 95'. Positive cable was corroded all to hell. I cleaned it really well and lubricated it. Speaking of that I need to go check it. It has been a month and need to make sure the battery isn't leaking. Damn its 29* outside this morning.

A happy thanksgiving giving to one and all. I’m thankful for our health, being able to wear fine Florida footwear for turkey dinner. d919e6b853e3a6a41e4f3736964cb1ea.jpg minimal bloodshed this year and for knowing all the great people on GJ.

I’m dreaming of a white Christmas.....up north.

Final got a battery that works. Wife said I’d better get something that runs so made me get a new-to-me pickup. Having a pickup again is nice except when trying to park. Its 42” longer than the Tahoe.
I did manage to get nowhere with SL. I imagine it’s probably something simple if I knew what that was. I started disassembly of my old boat trailer. e10bc9e5c05a2dd92737fa0a0e2bff93.jpg I tried selling but no takers so new tires will be saved for enclosed trailer and steel channel used for future projects. Freeing up parking will be a plus.
I also finished the hose stand. Craig gave me a couple of aluminum ATV rims so Portable bandsaw to the lip 7bec4ebff8769847d96d8b95681134cd.jpg and one new hole in a sign post, I have a nice stand for the new water hose. 376942f5811d89a3b60a01a4e1cbcf63.jpg
Another quick project was for the bed of the truck. Trimmed down a 2x8 to fit the bed and sprayed bedliner on the bottom of a bin, secure storage. a131a6111da165ea7162b877d1a18d7d.jpg The 2x8 is from the initial shop demo, so it’s the gift that keeps on giving.

Congrats on the new truck.

Thanks.

Ditto on that... I was wondering how long you were going to hold out as much you, Craig and Gerard, scavenge, trade, barter and hit the auctions!

Thanks. I didn’t want to but you know what they say about happy wife....
Truck will come in handy since I can lock the goodies under the tonneau cover.

Might need to plan a Texas/Oklahoma trip to see what kinda goodies I can con, er, I mean get. Trade Andy some aluminum for a caboose. Lol.
