The wife has finished up the 50 Shades book series and watched the movies and asked me to make something for our bed. Ummmm?
She told me what she wanted so I got to work. First up was gather materials, one side of a bed frame and a surplus piece of an old metal coffee table. I needed two straps, not to wide, not too thin so slicing of the sides of this rectangular tube gave me what I needed.


A trip to brake and DP,
gave me the ends I needed.


Some paint and it’s done. Not sure if I should be excited or scared.

Miniatures of what I had. Here’s the 67 the day I brought it.
I also an 85 442 that was my DD. Sold both to raise capital for my stint as a pawnbroker.

So what does it look like now that it's done?

Just kidding. I have to modify the first version so stay tuned.

The last couple of weekends have been productive. One of my headlights was going out intermittently and they were hazed pretty bad.
Didn’t find anything wrong with connectors. For lens, started with 220 on heavy areas, then 320 to 600, 1000, 3000.
Bottom final polish. Top untouched, Looks great under light but on truck, could use more work.

Since I had some time at the end of the day, decided to try making a box with the brake. Layout and bending was probably 10-15 minutes. A lot to learn about bending.

With batteries out of the “battery box” time to get casters on it so it can be a brake stand. Here’s the Mity vise at work. convenient but really just for small parts.
Tapping the holes with my new Gearwrench ratchet handle. Amazing how well the process goes with right drill speed and pressure along with the right size hole.
I did have an oops. Though I had all my lines layout, I decided to cut off a corner without a line. Welding practice.
Nice having thick material, the right settings and technique. Rare for me.

With the caster plates welded on and the casters installed......this leg ripper opener is covered up.
Time to get box off the moving dolly it’s been sitting on for four years.
What could possibly go wrong?

All was going well until I used the Dewalt impact gun to lower one of the scissor jacks.

Luckily it was a small gusher.
boy do I need some beach time.
After getting the box upright on its casters, I rolled it outside so I could torch the center divider out. Sun, metal box, August, torch, tight space, great fun.
Opening this up gives me a place for smaller metal sheet goods.

Flashback Friday.

Where it began.
Parents traded a station wagon for a 1967 Cutlass sedan. I’m the 8 yr old snuggled up to the babe and checking my package. Ever since we had this car, I fell in love with a 67 Cutlass.
Fast forward 14 yrs and I was fortunate enough to buy an original 67 442 that wasn’t really for sale. 400, 4bbl, dual exhaust. Me heading to my first base in Texas.
Moving forward, I’m now stationed in California and newly divorced. Unfortunately the 67 was not ready to be a DD. While looking at El Caminos and 2dr Blazers, I stumbled on my 85 442. After watching the car drop $3k, I pulled the trigger. 4 bbl., 4 spd auto, dual exhaust.
Ironically my parents sold their Cutlass for a Dodge, I sold a 78 Dodge for the 67. The 85 was sold to fund initial buy in to pawnshop. The 67 sold because a single 35 yr old needed a DD which was an 85 El Camino. After all this, I end up with a black 2dr Tahoe. Go figure.
