Had a productive 3-day weekend. Started of Friday off at an estate where I found a suitable replacement to the vintage CM horizontal bandsaw that doesn’t cut straight.
Saturday was a dump run then a replacement battery for Tahoe. Besides a battery, to move the Tahoe, I had to replace a valve stem on the riding mower. To do that, tire changer needs some love.
Scraps from battery box provided the material to box in the bead breaker. 9cea0717a72a98c5309838b8302d9124.jpg
Doing more welding lately is giving me a better understanding of welding 5e2c4b7ff15b82ff89675aec8ea0aca9.jpg
Some paint and it’s ready for action. d6fdb61a950959b9e33b488be14051ac.jpg
A repurposed banner stand makes for a much needed painting stand. 569ab47104dde944b2ae2c7c539be53e.jpg
Woot woot, scratched a couple of projects off the list.

Looking good Shorty.
Getting to the bottom of the list, what happens when we get there?

Sent from my SM-A102U using The Garage Journal mobile app
I used to think, "Boy it sure will be great when I get this list knocked out". But for the truly ambitious people in this world (and I'll go out on a limb a bit and toss myself into this category), you will never ever get there. For every task checked off, at least one more gets added. Its in our nature, to always improve what we have, to seek out new projects, etc. Acknowledging this tendency and simply being happy with each and every accomplishment is what keeps that never ending list from overwhelming and getting you down at times. I have an electronic To-Do list now and its fun to scan back through all the completed tasks every now and then just to see the progress that has been made.

Hey Shorty, I had a 3-day weekend too... and it was very productive as well! Sunday was a washout, but I was ready to relax by then. Since I'm changing my own motorcycle tires now, I really need to invest in a tire changer. Tire irons are getting old!

I’m impressed that you painted right away.

Nice to see you get things done.

I agree on the list, written or mental, being completed.

Always going to be some sort of a backlog.

What’s one to do when you knock 3-4 items off the list of 900 plus? Add a new project. 7cdb053e1d6c5d8c17d2eb7f6ad142d4.jpg
First, use the order picker battery removal jack to lift tonneau cover up. Thankful the little voice reminded me I have a lift. c9ebce4afabb0e64dfddaa9f0d5ab2be.jpg
And then it’s my favorite job in the whole world. d5b437f06ba23a340d49ab0da714714e.jpg
After the SL experience, I’m experimenting with different grits. I don’t want to take off more material than I have too.

I've seen how it happens 1st hand. The projects I end up working on often aren't even on the list. And SWMBO is good at adding projects that I don't even want anywhere near my list.
You're doing well at knocking a few out recently. Are you doing speed or something? [emoji38][emoji38]

Slow going on tonneau cover prep. Malfunctioning sanders and air hose breaks are turning this project into undesirable.
For the air hose, I had a spare so simple fix. On the sander, added a couple drops of oil and ended up with this surprise. 22a8e59b4b00b63deafceca503992dbc.jpg
Decided to investigate. db5b09d6cb0ad1616287981cb5c6686f.jpg. I was tired and didn’t take good notes on disassembly so on assembly, I didn’t get the speed control right. Looked on Snap On site and it appears there’s no support like other manufacturers. Errrrr!

Started hand sanding. Anybody want to join the party.

On a positive note, did whip up a sand paper cutter. Used hacksaw blade, 2 screws, 2 washers and scrap plywood 0c6ec0847b87747ec66e8fb3e4384abc.jpg

Sorry to hear about the setbacks on the cover... keep on truckin' and you'll get it done.

I mostly wanted to chime in a say thanks for the tip on the sandpaper cutter... that is brilliant!! Now I have a another use for those worn out hacksaw blade besides cleaning carbon buildup from my 2-stroke cylinder heads.

Here goes nothing. My attempt at laying down filler. 62464325401__B7A5C647-C112-47AD-BF7C-FA31D904679E.jpg
While that filler was drying, I mounted a wall file sorter I just picked up. I was wanting something to get my spray cans off a shelf and this fits the bill. Adjustments.jpg
Also I’m trying to straighten up the house garage so worked on the legs I need. Some slicing and dicing. IMG_1558.jpgAlso hung a few of my Oldsmobile goodies. IMG_1555.jpgThanks Jim for the tag.

Hopefully today the tonneau gets primer and a friend can TIG the legs.

Did my Shorty list just get longer?

Oh yeah. You have a CNC plasma table too. [emoji12]

I offered to mig them, guess I’m not a good enough friend.:lol_hitti:lol_hitti

Well a friend would have driven 6 hrs one way to run 4” of bead plus you can’t TIG with a MIG gun.
I even had some cold Select.

A busy and productive QST weekend. Got the primer on the tonneau. 11d9c7e772ebb08e0b6b04a0b33652e0.jpg
I didn’t do as good of job as I did on the SL. Between not being as prepared and worn out from yesterday, looks like I got some dry spots. ee5d626c971a34daaec7380b0a97c88c.jpg I think they’ll buff out. [emoji12]

Also thanks to a friend John, the legs for a bench are welded. bfdf47f86746f813d7f9acc9b13c52ac.jpg
Along with a bunch of small tasks, I ticked a lot of the list. Steve would be proud.

But you don’t have a tig!
See, if you’d brought it down, it would of been welded up, plenty of cold Select, ribs, hit the biscuit and gravy place next morning........

Cover looks good.

Sorry dips on the gravy.

Wait I have to sand some more? Yikes. Will see how it goes.

Dry? I read somewhere it takes this special primer a month to dry so I’ll just eat biscuit and gravy and Hooters until then.

What a day. After 9000 steps and 9 hrs of activity, I feel like I’ve been beaten by a dozen Hooter ladies pissed because I haven’t been by lately. Anyhow, what I thought was going to be a morning project turned into all day. Good news it’s ready to bring to the house.
I wanted/needed a stringer between the legs that were welded up last weekend. After watching a video by Project Farm on those aluminum soldering rods, I thought I’d try again but using the O/A torch. As you can tell by my excellent soldering, they work great. 163d66a30a9bea299752967ebf6eb85f.jpg
It did work but I didn’t solder the side so when I went to turn it, it broke some of the welds. It probably didn’t help that I was trying to use a cutting tip instead of a brazing tip.
Luckily I had plenty of screws and scraps, so I made up some plates. 7d34bed2fc31719ebf0a0932632d0405.jpg
Also found out that wood clamps make for a good spreader jack in narrow spaces. 22b8e06749c709a7bcc8425b8b5c1796.jpg

The one tap I needed, I didn’t have so after a quick trip, base tapped and casters installed. Part of the design was to use the tabs on the legs to mount some pegboard. Tick.
ca2c35f384145c8c6d7ce41a534ff241.jpg
I also decided to put an interior shelf, again leveraging the tabs. Since there were taps only on 3 sides, I used some scraps to beef up the unsupported side. ca22ac5ca73d444830514c4928ad1b04.jpgglued, screwed and brads, I think I’m good. bd2fb8f89899995ba1e772f71cfbf9cb.jpg
To finish out the inside, I used aluminum tape to cover holes and gaps. Some scrap was used to fill the back.
b48063df22561e72e1be23dd4839b649.jpg
To finish the day, some clips hacked out of the same tube keeps the top from sliding forward and acts as temp hinges. 901cbbfdc4ddb78acd7416ae599590e1.jpg

Building the SS bench was an unplanned detour or planned since I was in the middle of the tonneau project. Anyway, the bench is completed and in place in the home garage. This will be a useful addition and will be the first time I’ll have a permanent place to learn airbrushing.
IMG_1643.jpg I’d like some type of pegboard/organization panels above bench.

One man’s junk is another man’s treasure. The SS top I picked up from the landfill 15+ yrs ago with the plan to use in my first shop. The wood pieces are leftover OSB from first mezzanine floor and the strip of Baltic Birch was from the original shop loft and used as screen board on concrete pad for shop back door. All the aluminum rectangle tube is from the impressive window wall of the loft. IMG_1644.JPG
And the white plywood top is from a 40 yr old table from work, the same stuff used for my woodworking bench. Recycle, repurpose, reuse.

Stainless bench is great. I have a Stainless bench top sitting in my shop waiting to be used. Building is not the problem, it's finding space for it once it's built. [emoji12]

Couple of other tidbits. To assist with managing rolls of sandpaper, I quickly threw this stand together. Fortunately my paper cutter happened to be the same width and was used. IMG_1637.jpgIMG_1638.jpg
Also a friend had some 1” mini blinds and asked if they would work in my Lista and Vidmar. Quick trip to bandsaw and perfect for Lista handles. IMG_1640.jpgIMG_1641.jpg

The SS table looks great!! And from materials on hand, even better!!

Airbrushing... now that sounds pretty fun. Enjoy learning a new skill. My next one will probably re-learning welding. Its been so long since I laid a bead, it will practically be like starting from scratch.
