Shorty

With all those project checked off your list you can take some time off and come to So Cal for a visit and bring me that safety suite you have designed for me. lol

In my world getting one project out of the way only leads to 3 more for the list.

Don that sounds like a great plan. As soon as the suit is ready.
Yep that’s what happened here. Focusing on one project spurred one old and 3 new projects.

I doubt any of us here would be very happy if there wasn't anything "on deck" waiting to be worked on.

How are we supposed to be sitting on the beach looking at bikinis if we’re always working on projects.

Speaking of, on the Find More Clear Floor project, I received a message about a hand truck I had listed. Guy showed up on time, made transaction and left so I ended up with some shop time. Sunday I wanted to get cabinet dolly finished, so worked on it last night. a13b5d7c64d96be5b407137c0d683bbb.jpg
Guess who didn’t pick up welding wire Monday?
Switching gears, I investigated why the top drawer of same cabinet wouldn’t come out. I found...43de1a25a699ac519bd64212de1c8ae5.jpg the idiot lock was hitting the top of the frame. Errrrr.
Cut off wheel, air chisel and hammer/chisel, I got the drawer out. 7260377228c5b17962efbc0415ba4108.jpg looks like I need to do some body work. With nothing else to do, I stopped for a spool of wire then headed home.

How often do you go through a spool? What size do you usually get? What size wire do you usually run?

I’ve had this welder for 10-12 years. I’ve welded sporadically with it the first 8-9 of those years. I finally used up a 2 lb. roll of Lincoln .030 solid wire. Not hard to guess I haven’t welded a lot.
Since I’m not using up a roll very quick, I’m sticking to the little roll.

Wow, two middle of the week QST.
With a new spool of wire, welded the dolly frame. f7f805e4509ce9e3f9f985715f58e469.jpg
I did find out that my Florida Safety Shoes aren’t weld splatter proof so had to improvise with a glove I worn back in 1982 while epoxying motor stators. 4665b2c33a70a8554e98c6fbfd69a25e.jpg
Also a big flat box was delivered yesterday that I wasn’t supposed to open but did. My early birthday present from Vicki. 906b55a20a5caf49ab035fff4d07fa32.jpg

Shorty, that's the main reason I can't have a lift. I already have trouble identifying leaks. Is that reddish stuff transmission fluid, blood or antifreeze? Is the clear stuff hydraulic or brake fluid? Is that yellow stuff lemonade or ...?

If he would just put his Florida safety shoes on upside down they might work as spark deflectors until the GoFundMe page has time to populate

Jim you might be on to something. I have some flashing I can cut to fit and zip tie to my FSS.

How long does it take to drill sixteen 3/8” holes? 20 minutes, 30 minutes? How about 2+ hours. Unfortunately I used bed rail that’s tougher than tungsten. After several new and used bits, step bit and die grinder, I ended up with at least 3 bolt holes per caster. 4f94c10e2111b3f11e852128e50076bb.jpg
Note to self: scrap all the &$@% bed rail.
The almost finished product. ef225b0d737108203667100db88d4a02.jpg
This is 1” shorter than the previous bench. Also it’s 15 sq.ft so 25% smaller than previous.

I have no idea what y’all are talking about. Let me ask Bambi or Tiffani if they know.

John that’s right. I have to get XXL. You know, big hands, big feet, big...

Hey Amber, are you ready yet?

I've been drilling a lot of holes lately too, so I know exactly how that feels... is it midnight already?!? Time to put this drill down! (I really need a mag drill for those times when I can't get something up on the press.

Looks like things will be mobile soon! It makes ALL the difference.

Great weekend for chilling. The boss had Monday off so we headed to the east coast. While in Fernandina Beach, Vicki saw an antique store and asked to check it out. Sure thing dear.

While looking around I about tripped on this doorstop. 929d88a332e5d296c5b139ffaeb2dbfb.jpg
5” C2 missing the base and the handle was rebar. For $75 dollars, it went home with me. Since I had free time and not far from Mack’s, I ran over to check out his shop. It’s looking real good. He also had a sander for Toolfool so loaded it up. The wife car has hauled more goodies than my truck. 0ee2265a39ec6d60b2d794bd88be396d.jpg

Time for your quarterly safety lesson.

Whenever you are using a jack, especially a hydraulic jack, you should support the load with jack stands or dunnage.
The famous battery box jack was used to lift this cabinet enough to remove the front casters. 0a4ae49d16b1abc77f99cf64ad8d3d03.jpg
Oops.
Proper technique would be to use the jack lock, dunnage or both. be1b68b0dbb70ba5cfa58c6dbde3b4c9.jpg
Luckily it only took about 15 minutes to return things to normal with only two minor dings. 4924da90570cae506b0bcce2db8329c7.jpg

Stay tuned for next quarters safety lesson. It’s going to be fantastic!!!!

Shorty, just wanted to pass on this safety notice while using vises.
Hopefully your new vise has good jaws.

Glad no major damage on cab.

But I need to ask, if no one was there when if fell over, did it make any noise?

You just might be on to something... With the cabinet tilted forward like that, you might have better access to the drawers! You might consider permanently positioning it that way and counter balance the drawers somehow so they don't come slamming down when opened.

(glad you are ok)
