The side boxes are the same I just moved all the deep drawers to one side. It keeps all my power tools and other large items together.

No modification needed to move them and they will still have double slides.

O man, if only they offered that 9 drawer version as an option at the sub $200 price of the regular one.

I think he may have played musical drawers between the boxes.

Ah, OK. Yea I read through your garage and saw it in a few different locations. So kinda like a Geneva box? It just looked handy. I wish a company made a ~8" wide side box compared to most full width ~16" wide side boxes. It fits in there real nice.

I never heard of a Geneva box? Ill check but don't thing there was a name tag on it. Your right its handy and fits in really good there. Its heavy odd size deep think like 17 deep and think 31 tall. After years of moving it around it finally has a home. lol

Opps, they were designed to fit behind the wheel well hump in truck beds. ~8" wide and ~18" deep. Just a narrow stack of drawers.

Oh ok, yeah I seen those before. Didn't know name. I bet the come with hefty price tag also? I guess been spoiled by HF boxes price tags. Honestly, the US General line serves me just fine. I had home owner grade craftsman for 20 years but friction slides and they lasted me ok so HF ones I have are better so.

I went from a CMAN 26" stack that I had filled to the HF 56". I know have empty drawers:rocker:. I don't imagine it will stay that way long though:lol: Don't mind the mess of a garage.

I have two of the those 7 drawer units. I am going to have to play with the drawer configurations like that! :)

I really like to get 2 upper 44s but I really like the bench idea currently have. If I never do sure swapping drawers around.

Damn son..... Got sockets? LOL

Yeah, way more than I will ever need or use. Last time the complete CMAN set went on sale I figured it would be the last chance I had to get the complete USA set. On the other hand I don't think I will ever not have the one I need, there is probably close to 400 sockets in that drawer:evil:

Looking for a new box, Is the 56 as sturdy as it looks?
I think the consensus is that it is very sturdy for home shop use. Sounds like some pros use it with no problems as well. Certainly not a truck brand box but I find it to be a great box for home use.

Here is my US General Pro 26 incher.....I also left a Craftsman 26 incher to upgrade to this box. Its a nice tool box for motorcycle use. I probably would choose the 44 incher for auto use due to larger tools being required for that application. This US General Pro 26 incher has a nice depth (front to back) drawer setup and I really like the 1/4 turn barrel style locks as well. Due to the high number of shallow drawers I can fit alot of tools in less space.

Where did you get that aluminum strip? I like that idea

Sorry man I didn't see u posted that.

I made it out of a piece of angle aluminum and then notched it out to clear the trim and the locks and then riveted it on.
It helps hold the mat down aswell as protect the top corner from getting beat up

I've only seen the silver badge in my local store. Both badges have been seen on ebay if you need them to match. You can buy the one you like and swap it out.

44" vs 56" box.... My budget (wife) says 44", which is probably really all I need right now. But everytime I go to the store, I see that 56" box and I open and close the drawers, and I wish my budget said to get it. Is it bad that I want the 56" box just because I like the drawer locking mechanism? The detents on the 44" box seem inconsistent from one drawer to the next. Have people been happy with the detents once they are broken in? Has anyone had any troubles with the 56" latches?

Buy the 56" and tell her its only 44". After all, men have been telling them that 3"=6" all their lives, she'll never know. :lol_hitti

Bringing a thread back from the dead. But I'm trying to find a model # or some info on that locker style side cabinet on dlc box. Any help would be awesome
TIA

Could try the half height side locker made by International. Looks to be about the same dimensions.

Thanks for all the info guys. And ya I was looking more for the half cabinet. Might just have to do something different.

International sells one through Home Depot, $150 and it looks like it will fit.

I know this is a couple months back, but has anyone happened to try this? I'm seriously considering it, and curious how close the shades of red are.

Answering my own question, and hopefully helping someone else in the process:

My International half height locker finally came in (from HomeDepot). Mounted it up to the side of my HF 44" roll cab. The color is slightly different, with my fluorescent lights on I can see it, but it is close enough to not bother me, especially after I have the top on. I'd bet 99% of people would never notice the difference unless I pointed it out.

A few minor issues:
1. The cabinet is about 3/4" deeper than the HF 44", not an issue for me since I will be putting a butcher block top on with a bit of overhang all around, but this did require notching the hanging lip a bit.
2. The locker is about 1.5" shorter, the pinch weld on the bottom of the locker is directly in line with the two securing holes on the bottom of the HF cab and it interferes with being able to drill holes and bolt it to the HF cab. Instead I think I will put a few sheet metal screws through the pinch weld into the HF cab to secure it.
3. It has two holes in the side, presumably for mounting to Internationals own roll cab or possibly handle. These do not line up with the holes for the HF's handle, but should be covered by it should I decide to mount the handle. The side of the locker did not feel sufficiently reinforced to mount the handle and move around a full box without flexing, so I will either leave it off or mount the handle on the HF 7 drawer cabinet side.
4. The locker door is secured with a single catch in the center (and a lock). Because of this, and some slight warping of the door, the top is pushed in and the bottom sticks out slightly. It's hard to tell in the picture but if you look closely you may notice it. Doesn't affect function, but it bothers me. There is a lip just inside the door on the top and bottom that looks to be perfect to mount magnetic door latches on to correct this which I will do promptly.

All in all, the locker looks decent and will serve it's purpose well. It definitely doesn't feel as "substantial" as the HF cab, but it should hold the plastic-cased tools (power tools, automotive tools etc) just fine. In total, with the HF 44", a HF 7 drawer side cabinet, and the International locker the total length ends up right about 73". I have an 8ft Sears butcher block workbench top that I will cut down and mount to the box. (Yes I was slightly disappointed that it was too long for a 6ft top to workout, but I'll probably use the 20x24 remnant as a little more heavy duty work surface to put on my laminate countertop assembly bench. )

Before, excuse the mess, I am still working on transferring and organizing tools over from my old box.

The notch I had to make, a little jagged (used tin snips) but it will be covered up anyway.

Very, very cool to know that these are available. Luckily I have an old Snap-On box as a top box, so I'm already used to non-matching shades of red.:D

Thanks for being the lab rat showing how you got it all together.
