I like the top, I am trying to make a hardwood top for my boxes. Hate small towns and lack of materials. Did you make it?
It's laminate floor on the top got the idea from another member here, it holds up surprisingly well.

Here is mine. I got the wood from HD. Stained it and coated it. It's a soft wood.

My wood top is 2 X 6 then the laminate flooring and yes it just rest on top I did put a piece of 3/4 on top of the HF boxes so it would not just be sitting on the edges I have not had any problems with moving at all

Good day and thanks for all of the great post, pictures and info. I notice where so many talk about the 72" box from Harbor Freight and it no longer being available and such. I wanted to post this because yesterday on the Harbor Freight website and again this morning they are selling the 72" box again on the website and the price is only 1199.00 I am calling today to order one and will pass along any info I receive. Listed below is the link from the site.
Thanks again for all the great info

Nice setup

So how the heck do you work in that garage? Looks full.

Well.... It's not been easy.....:) Almost every tool in my shop is on wheels so I can move things around when I need to clear some floor space. The lack of storage is one of the reasons I embarked on my workbench build. The hutch that you see divides up about half the shop as I am making different work zones through different workbench and storage cabinets that I am building. My welding table for example, is on the backside of the hutch which is where I do all of my welding when I can't roll things outside..

OK, so it's a toolcart.... But it's my main storage.

Just joined the HF 44" club

I just bought a mini-lathe and needed somewhere to put it. I could have left it on the work bench, but it provided a great excuse to buy a new tool box. :p

No drawer pics, nothing to see except a few pieces of lathe tooling, the tail stock and a steady rest from the lathe.

On The HF can you close a drawer into the lock position after it has already been locked and a drawer is not closed?

My box, cart and main three drawers. The socket and wrench drawers aren't real impressive, it's just for home stuff. Everything I do professionally is electrical and mostly within the passenger cabin.0e200a377d464d16375b1699255788b6.jpge3a620e8583beba5f62f70a0593d358e.jpg9bbeac9bf02930f5feb13618d0882eca.jpg413ab4251306c81e63e9e54c2827ed93.jpg

I thought you could. I'll have to check again tonight. I very rarely lock mine up.

Maybe the 44" but I don't recall being able to do so on my 56" I once had

You can lock the box with a few drawers open then push them closed to lock them on the 56". I do it all the time.

Druder - Did you paint the trim or just remove it? I’m on my iPhone and it’s hard to tell.

edit: I can see it’s removed. Was it destroyed in the process because that would answer some questions about repainting mine.

I removed mine this week and it didn't really destroy them. A lot were loose enough to just slide right off, a few had to be pried slightly. Not sure how you would tighten them up without messing up the finish. I had thought about painting mine and ended up just removing them and wrapped the lip in carbon fiber vinyl.
