It's funny. In all my boxes I probably own 200 screwdrivers (conservative estimate) and +95% of the time I use one of 2 screwdrivers.1 is a Snap-On #2 Phillips and the other is a Klein 6 in1. I wonder why I keep buying them, lol

I got a set of Snap On Ducks Unlimited hard handle screwdrivers. I don't hunt, I just wanted the green ones since they match my box. One is yellow because my SO dealer used it as a warranty replacement at some point.

Question for you screwdriver fans. What is the purpose of having so many different screw drivers and also is it really worth it to have a SO set opposed to say a gearwrench set?

Different applications require different screwdrivers. I also have hose picks in the same drawer. I don't understand the people with duplicates of the same screw drivers just in different colours.

As far as buying Snap On goes, there is no gearwrench dealer that comes to my dealership. In fact, SO is the only dealer that comes, and has consistently been coming since the dealer opened in '88.

gotcha. I meant more for the people who have 1000s of practically same phillips and flats. Its definitely cool to have a huge collection but they are after all just screw drivers...

people collect tools over the years when they just want to try something out. Its the same reason someone ends up with 30 ratchets or 3-4 type of each wrench.

Mspecperformance,

For slotted screwdrivers, it is important to own ones with different blade tip thicknesses. Here is an older GarageJournal thread that discusses this topic:

I certainly understand but there is a difference from owning 20-30 screw drivers than owning 50+...

Also ratchets are a bit different since they are a more intricate tool in regards to shape, teeth, quick release, etc.

Here's a simpler explanation, at least after you own 6 or so standard sized screwdrivers and a good set of small ones.

a) High quality ones are amazingly cheap (I have yet to pay more than 20 bucks for a set of Felo, Wiha, Wera, or PB Swiss, which means I own four+ sets I guess...the first three are all the metal capped variety).
b) People can't stand to throw or give away their old ones.
c) Clear handled Craftsman screwdrivers make decent paint can openers.

Here's my screwdriver drawer. I keep thinking about changing it all to matching SO, but in reality this set up has never failed me. The only thing I need to add is a #3 Phillips.

I have to say when it comes to the SO screwdrivers vs the Gearwrench it's a no contest in favor of the SO. As to why some of us own so many well sometimes you walk on the tool truck and see a new set and you just have to try them, lol To really own a complete set of screwdrivers I would say you could cover everything in 25 or less. The reason I own so many in differant sets is that many times I was working on 2-5 cars at one time. I didn't want to move a handful of tools across the shop while waiting on parts for another so I would just leave the few tools I was using on or in each vehicle until the job got done. Sometimes my shop got really cramped so moving a tool cart around just wasn't productive.

The the top..... Any new drivers acquired by anyone????

I recently picked up some Urrea Mexican made screwdrivers. They appear to be copies of the old Witte screwdrivers Matco sold a few years ago. I'll use and abuse them to see how they hold up.

I have a long way to go to get to DYNODALE'S level but it's a start. C-man nut drivers, t-handle hex drivers and some Wiha torx drivers.

I'll play, here is what i have, less what is in the pelican case in my truck, my race box and my construction bags, that is mostly cman and klein. I don't know why, but i cant stop buying screwdrivers just to test them to see if i like them. For some reason, .My pb swiss addiction has run it's course since amazon doesn't have anything left that i want. Next, i am going to try the wera chisel drivers and wiha square handled drivers. I have good luck with these brands in the past.
I need a bigger rollaway since finding this terrible website, i curse you all

Here is my most prized screwdriver, although it hasn't been used for that purpose for some time. I've had this supermarket-bought, US-made Rosco screwdriver I believe since 1967, and it's been with me through three garage moves. I used it on my old cars when they were new. When something needs prying off, or levering against, etc., I always look for it. It has saved my "good" scewdrivers from inappropriate use many times. It's an old friend.
