I have a couple of Kennedy tool maker boxes of my own and also an older one that my dad had but was in really bad shape. I even considered tossing it out but then my FIL was saying that he was looking for one so I gave it to him.
These are mine

This is the one that I gave to my FIL

Lets see those Kennedy toolboxes. New, old, big or small and whatever color ya got.

Here is my work setup: 297 ball bearing roller and 520 top

1972-1973 JC Penney (made by Kennedy, confirmed it by contacting them) curbside find from around the corner from me. I was admiring it in the neighbor's garage and a few years later, imagine my surprise when his grandson is wheeling it to the curb for trash (grandfather had died).

Grabbed it in a jiffy!

I've been trying to pick up a used Kennedy cabinet, but I just keep missing them on Craigslist. You guys keep posting pics to motivate me, maybe I'll just buy one new.

Here are mine. A Red top and bottom that I found in the back of a panel truck in the junk yard about 30 years ago. It was beat up and I spent several days in my free time hammering and rewelding this top and bottom. I paid $10 for top and bottom.
Next is a small box that I used when I was an electrician. Then my machinist box for my lathe and finally a cantalever that I paid $5 for at a garage sale many years ago

This one stays in the house, it's in the worst shape of all my Kennedy's so I really don't want it in the shop.

I love the looks of those too. You can bet they are built to last.. I especially like that old logo .. I've got a couple of my boxes with it.

I've pestered Kennedy before about coming up with decals, etc. for promotions but to no avail.. They had their 100 year anniversary in 2011 and I was hoping to see some coffee mugs or other celebration items.. ..

They do have a new website and are marking some pink tool boxes currently... salty though..

Here are a couple that are sitting on my bench to be sold.
There's a 526, an SK Wayne and Dunlap from the 30/40's (metal over wood construction).
Lousy pic for the Dunlap, it's actually brown.

Techie1961,

Where did the green felt lining come from? Is that an old trademark of them as I do not see it for sale on their webpage?

Any one have any off the non machinist boxes? Like the Benchmark or Maintenance series? We were talking about them in the Cornwell tool box thread and it peaked my interest.

My son has some older Kennedy "single purpose" or hand carry style tool boxes.. well made, durable.. Other than that, the balance are the classic machinist or mechanic stacking and roller boxes...

I was fortunate enough to pick this up a few months ago, part of an estate sale, along with a bunch of other great tools.
The gentleman had been a machinist for GE & Grumman back in the day, there were books and tools labeled as such.
$50, and there were quite a few nice tools in there, including a ton of end mills and lathe bits.

Picked this set up off Craigslist, it had been repainted several times, I took her down to bare metal and started over. I had to email keneddy to get info on it, turns out it was a limited design in 1952.

Looks like one fox and one raccoon going to work in their bib overalls carrying Kennedy's. I just submitted that question to the Kennedy website.. we'll see if they know..

The story from Kennedy (Name removed to protect the innocent)... :lol_hitti

I don't know the whole story, but from what I have heard, our name used to be Kennedy Kittens, and then was shortened to Kennedy Kit. The two kittens on the logo supposedly represent the two Kennedy brothers. One is in a suit and the other in bib overalls, because one of the brothers was a lawyer and the other was an engineer.

I want to refurbish this old Kennedy cantilever box. I need to take the tops off at the hinge so I can straighten them back out. It doesn't really show in the pic, but they're pretty bent up.
I know I need to drill out the rivets for the interior trays in order to separate them from the top, but I can't get the hinge to come apart. It looks like the metal around the edge was added after the hinge was assembled? I can't even get to the hinge pin to drive it out. Any ideas?
Anyway, here's the box.
The leather handle and the inside trays are all in good shape.

Can you just knock loose the two links connecting the tray to the top, fold the trays back in and then work on the top?

Yes. That would be easier than taking the hinge apart. I suppose I was over thinking it. :lol_hitti

The other thing I did to help visualize how to deal with a similar Kennedy box, was to put it up on its end-side (not on its bottom, on the home shaped end). That gives something mental (at least to me) to be able to access in an assembled state, the areas I needed to work on including the bent hinge area. It doesn't work in all cases, but for minor repairs it would...

I hadn't seen one of these other than the one I have in my garage, that I bought at a garage sale many years ago. Mine needs one new drawer slide. Also, mine don't look that good AFTER clean up!

My International Harvester branded Kennedy set. Pics taken before I cleaned them up.
