I have been teaching my oldest daughter how to weld, and helping her with her own project.

I've needed a small secondary welding table for a while and I thought of building a super simple table but that's not my style. I always have wanted a fixture table and always thought the tab and slot style was neat but rarely needed one. But I have a small job coming up that fixturing would make life easier so I decided to build one. After a cutting bunch of test pieces I was confident that my CNC plasma could cut the 5/8" holes accurately enough without reaming. So I bought the plans for the top uploaded the dxf files and let the machine work away cutting the 1/4" plate. When I was assembling the 2'x4' table all the parts fit very well together and I checked the table for flatness with a straight edge and feeler gauge and the biggest gap I could find was 0.016". Since i'm short on shop space I need the table to fold up as compactly as possible and out of the way If I need to put anything large in the shop. So I built a base the would tilt the top on edge, The table with base weighed 260 lbs.

Super slick design, well done Sir.

Love that folding table too!

As for welding...
Last week I did the trickiest welding I have ever done!
TiG welded a broken Alfa Romeo oil pan fin...

This little sucker..

Should look like this on the other side..

Carefully built it up with 1000 rod...

attachment.php

Filed/ground/sanded it to good enough..

Might not be much for some here, but frightened the life out of me trying to stick the rod on there without feeling like I was gonna turn the whole pan into a molten pile..

Nice job.

I had to do something similar on an old Norton for a co-worker that he was restoring many years ago.

Good friend of mine is converting an old Ambulance (F-350) to an camping/expedition type rig. We spent the weekend building this roof rack. Overall size is 13.5' long x 5' wide. The front section will hold solar panels, the middle open space is for an roof-mounted A/C unit, and the rear section will be an observation deck.

Here's what it looked like with just the bottom perimeter rail and a couple of cross supports. We were testing the fitment before the final assembly due to the weight.

Here all the welding of the frame is complete. Still need to add the decking and solar panels after it's painted.

Back in the 70's when I had an Alfa the first accessory that everyone installed was an oil pan protector. The oil pan was very low and stuck out forward of the wheels, they seemed to have an attraction to parking blocks and curbs.

Awesome Videos. Love seeing kids pick up the trades!!!

Thanks! I try to get my kids involved in projects, and working with me as much as possible. I am trying to develop skills, and instill a good work ethic in them while having fun together.

It's engineered to hold a ceiling and snow load; a ladder one person can lift shouldn't be too much of an issue. Thanks

I totally agree. But I've seen countless threads crying about just putting up drywall. Trusses are theoretically only designed to take point loads, and not supposed to have any bending moment on the beams, but anyone with half a brain could tell it can handle a ladder just fine.

The electrical guys are the worst. They'll tell you to go out and spend $90 just cuz your plug is shaped wrong or some ****. Whatevvver.

Making a new attachment to move trailers for an old international skidsteer. Old one was the remains of something else that fit then had a ball stuck on it. It got the job done but was not heavy enough duty. I offered to make a heavy duty one.

View media item 104261
Putting a bevel on some scrap 4" sq tubing. Both pieces were already cut and worked out perfect.

View media item 104262
Lined up to tack together.

View media item 104263
View media item 104264
Tacked a little at the corners then burned 1 side in. Learning as I go trial and error.

View media item 104265
Flipped it 180 and did opposite side (no picture).

Flipped it 90 and did angle side. Had to grind a little at the corners and touch up after.

View media item 104266

Welder settings. Heat range at the bottom left is 4 of 4. Need to paint the arrows black to stand out better than white on white.

View media item 104267
Added a receiver tube to give options when using.

View media item 104268
Cutting up a chunk of scrap beam to make the plates to weld on to the square tube. Pins go thru holes to attach to skidsteer.

View media item 104270
This is where it sits for now. Not perfect but I think it will be a bit better than the old one is.

I fixed Dad's(rip) Craftsman mower. Hadn't run in 50 years (It's as old as me, 68).
Chunk was broken out of the aluminum deck. Many hours disassembled every part, clean, sandblast some things, some painted or polish/clear coat. Runs great.View attachment 1013651View attachment 1013652View attachment 1013653View attachment 1013654View attachment 1013655View attachment 101365620200517_221331.jpg

Took a day off from the day job and welded for a friend at his shop on a rush project. Welded 390 nuts to 1/4” plates and then started welding the plates to angle iron. His guys got everything tacked and all I had to do was glue them together. He got parts made and I got some $ taken off the shelves he plasma cut for my smoker. b891eb9f56373eaf12d76b02d19292fc.jpg

No clue but evidently they use a lot of them. They have made 10,000+ pieces.

Miller 252.
220v power
.035 wire
75/25 gas
20-21v
285-325ipm

2 guys were tacking and I welded them out. Once the tacking was done, they welded out what was left with me then re-jigged for the 2nd op that 4-4” welds on 4”x1/4” angle iron. I’m not a huge fan of the gun Miller puts on the 252, it’s very light and has a cheap feel to it compared to the Bernard gun on my 350. It got a bit hot but never gave any trouble. Went through I’d estimate 20#s of wire. I may borrow a friend’s positioner the next time for kicks.

That's a cool mower, great job on restoring it. I'm a 58 model I remember those well. My Uncle had a similar mower with a wind up crank on top.

Decided to build a couple of grapple buckets the other day. I cut these out on our cnc plasma table.

All welded up. I'm waiting on the pins to come in to mount the cylinder.
