Appreciate the input.

You know, I had it in my head for some reason that I couldn't do something like that. But thinking it through after you mentioned it, that's definitely the way to do it. Thanks!

Since it's a show of your welding project thread, i'll share some photos of the actual project too.

Soil conditioner?

Going to weld carbide teeth on the ends?
Yep, soil conditioner.
People say non carbide teeth will wear down significantly faster, but how fast that is i'm unsure of. As of now i'm going to see how well it works, and if it seems to be wearing too fast I was just going to use hardfacing rod to hardface the tips.

I have this old vise that I would like to use outside in addition to the other one on my inside bench (that I have had for 60 years) so I made a stand from a disk blade, a piece of pipe and some left over channel iron then I painted it blue because I had a can of blue paint. Now, the question is, will it stand up when I need it to? We will see.IMG_5092.jpeg

Damn Colin, you got style bud. After all it does take a confident man to put rubber baby buggie bumper wheels on his welding cart 😉

You will fit in just fine around here
No kidding.

Thanks. I feel like I'm spamming this thread, but I enjoy seeing others' work and I figure they might want to see some of mine.
You're fine, awesome pictures.

If you feel that you are spamming this thread, you can always start your own thread for your projects here in this section. Nobody can accuse you of stealing anyone's thunder.

I think we might have to call you Mr Overkill or something. Damn fine work.

Been messing with these lights this week, I think they're intended to be portable flood lights for first responders. I drew the face and backplate of these junction boxes in CAD and had them plasma cut, then sheared, punched, brake-bent, slip-rolled, and welded the edge bands in place. I made some adapter plates that allowed me to retrofit the fixtures with medium ceramic screw bases in place of the original mogul bases, so I can use a normal BR40 bulb. I left a 4ft wide gap between the connex box and the wall, and it's a dark alley. These should illuminate it pretty well and kinda bolster the post-apocalyptic bunker aesthetic.

Working on this tree fort inside the farm shop. Going to be my office on the top and a bathroom, mop closet, store room on the ground level. Real slow burn, I pick away at it as time allows between important work.

@colindoyle I could not have said it any better myself!

I enjoy what you are posting. You are highly talented and skilled!

Your grafting of the truck bodies a few posts back was quite intriguing!

If this is considered spamming. You can spam me any day.
Very few people will understand the time that goes into that. Every adjustment for each hole cut, dimple die pressed... and TIG welded to boot! Great work.
That's the truth.

People always walk into the shop and remark how huge it is, and I point out that it's one of the smallest radial drills they ever made, tabletop units notwithstanding.
I spent a bit of time working in Puget Sound Naval Shipyard's machine shop (as a contract electrician) and they had a lot of equipment on that scale. It was pretty mind boggling.

Consider a lathe built to turn aircraft carrier prop shafts, for instance. :wtf:

Had some time in the shop and wanted to make a backlit beer sign of my favorite beverage of choice. I cut the sign from 14ga steel on my plasma table. I used frosted acrylic for the translucent backer and used gold window tint to achieve the two tone look.

Got a lot more projects... here's a cage for my R1200GS made out of leftover material. There's some mild and some stainless in there, differing wall thicknesses, possibly some 4130, etc. I was pulling my hair out trying to make it perfectly symmetrical, just couldn't figure out why I had this discrepancy side to side. Then I realized the connecting rods couldn't possibly occupy the same journal, and obviously the jugs were staggered.

I split the bike in twain and replaced the clutch around 60k miles and installed Adventure-length Öhlins TTX. Other than that and a couple of minor farkles from the previous owner, it's a bone stock '05. Great machine.
